    :) Thanks for those linkies.

I've been looking at the Times Square one and am now wondering why that group of 3 young men (apparently) were jumping up and down beside the road, all at the same time, every few seconds.:rotfl:

TY for the webcams, bet they go down later because too many people will be watching them..
Was interested to see the Beaufort scale, I didnt know a hurricane was winds of 74mph upwards, thought it had to be 100. We get winds of 70 here quite a few times a year, because we're high up.

For anybody who wanted to register on UKP, I sorry but I think scoobie has had to stop registration again - you wouldnt believe the nutters we're getting - too many people seem to believe in zombies literally.. and if its not them then its space ship invasions and govts spraying invisible gas from planes to brain wash us.

It's not a true hurricane with winds of that speed, I think, because technically they start out as tropical storms, but it's referred to as hurricane force. Often winds will gust a certain speed and that is what can cause structural damage, but the sustained speeds may well be less. When you get sustained speeds in excess of 74mph that gets pretty scary.

The harbour front in Jersey has a set of paving stones with the Beaufort scale illustrated on them. Force 12 is summed up as "All ships safe in harbour, pray God"
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

I havejust accessed the forums. Interesting advice and a nice sprinkling of nutters! Thanks to everyone on this thread - have been discussing with Husband. I thought hed think Id lost it but hes up for being better prepped. I think the last 2 years snow (we are atop a London hill and get cut off) and the riots have opened his eyes to how a little planning can help.

Be safe everyone in the US, I follow alot of vets in the US and there are good plans for animal safety. Please don't forget your pets, and keep everyone safe.

Well, things are getting a bit exciting here and I don't mean our weather (its still stormy and the ferries have stopped and its still pretty warm out there).

NOOOO......Mr Anonymous hacked into the Greek government computers last night and gave the citizen supports groups the passwords to download files from the finance ministry and what appear to be 'secret' files documenting bribes and other things. No one at the government found out till this morning so the truth is out there now whether they like it or not.......just waiting for the thousands of hidden documents and plan A to be revealed in public...not that it will make any difference whatsoever...one of the documents reveals Greece was not going to get the money from the EU this time anyway.... The Greek public were not being told the measures and taxes that were going to be imposed until after they were voted in and made law...guess they are going to know now!

My stock cupboards are full and so are the freezers. Our wood should be delivered tomorrow then our fuel stores are up as well. Petrol has suddenly come down to 1.73 a litre so I have been to fill up this morning. I don't think this government are going to last for much longer and I have serious doubts about the euro. The last tourist flights leave today.

Looks like we are in for a few exciting weeks one way or another...will keep you all posted folks. Watching the live web cams from the states, I have to say the New York one is boring to the extreme. I am friends with one of the storm chasers (although he usually chases tornadoes not hurricanes). He is driving towards the eye of the storm (or where he thinks it will be later) but there is a chance he might get caught in the blizzards before he gets there. If I can get the link off him I will post it later on tonight.
