I was just reading a post on facebook where a girl said'' Have your torches and batteries ready, turn the radio on and fill your bath tub with water....she got various replies....one asked if an auto flushing loo would work with water poured from a bucket, another asked if the bath full of water would protect the apartment......and the best post was this one...
Ashley Smith Ok the biggest reason to put water in the tub during a storm like that if u turn on your water while there is lightning it will go through the faucet and you will get electrocuted not to mention its for extra clean water because with the hurricane the salty ocean water will contaminate the clean water supply. I hope everyone will be OK. Our prayers from Oklahoma/tornado ally.
They seriously need to be on this forum.........lolWe're needed, ladies and gents.
My bath-tub and all my water pipes in the bathroom are earthed with special earth electrical cables. It is theoretically-possible to get a fatal shock whilst in a bath-tub. It has been known. I'm not being tin-hat; my LA landlord earths bathroom plumbing as standard.
Anyroad, if you think the average bath plug will hold water for more than a few hours, you'll be disappointed, not to mention the wide surface allowing dust and other contaminants to settle onto your precious supply.
Far better to store water in containers and stand them in the tub in case of leakages.
Howsomever, in event of civil emergency with flying bullets, the bathtub is the safest place to be, and one filled with water is even safer. Just thought we might someday need to know that.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Is anyone else watching CNN? The governer of New Jersey just said that the local mayor encouraged people to stay in shelters when they should have evacuated. some are in a school only 800 meters away from the sea....and they can no longer send in people to save them...what the hell was the mayor thinking of?????? It doesn't bear thinking about......not to mention the captain of the Explorer of the seas who has set sail in order for his passengers to 'experience the storm'.....oh my God what are people thinking of?“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0

C for er, seCret, as in our secret CRAPOLLZ club, secret prepping, cetera.
T is for 'Told you so!', to be announced in loud, ringing tones when the SHTF, when you've smugly saved your stocks, now the shelves are being emptied (as in US shops!), the floods/drought/austeritymeasures/zombies hit the fan....

I wanted to say that my heartfelt prayers go out to all the people affected by this storm. We might moan about our weather but most of us do not have to deal with such dangerous conditions.
It's very obvious just by looking at the news and websites that millions of people are going to be badly affected by this storm for many months to come. Atlantic City and New York are both far wealthier areas than New Orleans was and much more 'in your face' than New Orleans. Politicians are going to want to be 'seen' to react swiftly to the situation. I hope the government has learned from Hurricane Katerina.
I think that the incredibly dense nature of NY living is going to create huge problems for the clear up afterwards. There are going to be many, many buildings declared unsafe which house multiple families and re homing them is going to be a logistic nightmare. After Katerina many people were housed in caravan sites and thousands were offered homes all over the USA. Many communities were lost completely due to this 'migration.':(
This is another 'test' for the American people who often get a bad press about their lifestyles and their dealings with the poorer people of their country. After Katerina it was the churches who stepped up to the plate and they dealt with an extraordinary situation, often solving problems the authorities could not. People all over the states sent what they could to help and this will happen again. Once again the people will stand up and be counted.
There is a lot of compassion on this site for anyone dealing with any awful situation. Each person has their own level of SHTF stuff and it affects all of us. No one is more or less important than another. Yes, the nature of prepping does make some of the posts sound smug and inclusive, but most of us do this out of necessity. It's not a new-fangled hobby!Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
Morning all
Its a sad state of affairs today waking up to 13 known to have died at the hands of sandy so far..... I feel so helpless sometimes as all i can do i keep updated until its over and the relief effort starts.
Just to change the subject slightly i found this offer on sunflower oil today. 10L for £10 which works out alot cheaper than 1L bottles.

It doesnt appear to be a national offer as i had to log in to find it, but worth checking local for.0 -
I think too, that prepping isn't covered well for people living in places like New York. All those sites full of bunkers and cellars with 2 years food won't be of much help if you live in a tenement in a city.0

I hear that the HMS Bounty has sunk with some loss of life. If they knew the super storm was coming why on earth did they set sail?
