Thought you might like to see this report which I found earlier....its from 1997 and was a theoretical scenario for a hurricane hitting New York.....they named it Hurricane Sandy after one of the operatives on the emergency exercise........too much of a coincidence??? You couldn't make it up could you?

    What a truly bizarre coincidence!
Stay safe, 2t, and thanks so much for all your posts, always very interesting, especially today's. BTW, last Saturday's Guardian mag. had a long piece about the rise of G***en D*wn, chilling.

LMAO! zomneys heehee SPAM! get [STRIKE]hoarding[/STRIKE] prepping peeps! prep harder! :T

I hope everyone and their respective loved ones are doing ok (this includes supergran by proxy), I've had a strange few days with the funeral of my aunt on friday, the car breaking down saturday and then a christening sunday (me and he are godparents ). We paid the credit card bill today and that was also challenging! the budget for november spends is now drastically reduced whilst we get back on track - the funeral and christening expenses hadnt been accounted for very far in advance so we need to work that cost back into the savings. I dont get paid for any time off from work and we have two weeks off planned over christmas and new year so we need to get savings together for that time too as well as the car repairs which are looking to be in the region of £400.

Preps are looking good but need to rework the grab bags with more layers for warmth and better footwear but I cannot stress how nice it was to have a hat and some sweeties in the car when it conked out!

off to catch up on the tv planners recordings from the weekend (including the walking dead and derren brown )

membership has been updated so message me if I've missed a request

best wishes to all, love, luck and lists Noo x

    This http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/74781-hurricane-sandy/page__st__300
is an interesting but scary discussion .... commenting on Sandy live. I really, really hope they deal with this better than Katrina/New Orleans: completely horrifying that the richest country in the world was so totally, totally carp at looking after their own. Fingers crossed they have learnt many lessons from that.

If you are reading about hurricane Sandy, spare a thought for the folks of Shetland

This is about the standard weather http://move.shetland.org/frequently-asked-questions

And this refers to one of the worst storms in recent years - http://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2011/11/23/damaging-storms-allen-fraser

I just got this bulletin from my friend..the hurricane has developed two eyes which will impact at different places, it will not weaken the hurricane. This is a unique storm, it is not following 'normal' rules.

    The Weather Space.com
SANDY IS APPROACHING THE COAST WITH TWO CENTERS ...

It is a first for me but just as tornadoes have multiple vorts within the main circulation ... Sandy has two centers. She has a central pressure of 940mb and it is one for the record books.

These two centers were probably caused by the transition into the jet as it took an oval shape early this morning, with the west and east end of the center fighting of dominance.

None of them will win and the TWO centers will hit in different areas ... one into Atlantic City to Ocean City (red dot) shortly and then next one pushing NW of that one into Northern NJ. The Northern NJ tracking (green dot) vort is what will push the waters up in NYC more than they are now.

Truly an interesting storm with multiple surface lows. I've issued a Tornado Watch earlier for New England so be sure to check that out - https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=483308395033852&set=a.314437941920899.79964.132522300112465&type=1&relevant_count=1

Thank you for the links lyrolee :) Now trying to fend off small children who are wanting to see what the hurricane looks like on MY laptop! :)

    Possession Just :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Brilliant.

My prepping today has been investigating various types of skill sharing networks and finding out how I can contribute and gain from skills in our local area.
I used to live and work in what the papers call "one of the worst areas in Scotland" an area that had (among other useful community minded things) a toy library, allotments, a "materials" library which consisted of low cost hire for various types of DIY/cooking/gardening equipment and a LETS scheme. ALL put together by the local community, for the local community, but with local authority support (generally via the community education dept) I was reasonably active in these, not taking on an organisational role as such, but supportive- I both used and contributed.
20 miles up the road (albeit in a different, more prosperous county) I'm struggling to find the least little thing.
Living in a small town I see myself as part of a community, and I enjoy skill sharing, having benefited from it myself, and having spent quite a few work years in a role where I was helping other people gain skills.
I would like to see the spirit I saw in some of the "written off" areas I lived in, transferred to the area I now live in, particularly as I regularly see older people in my work role who would love to be involved in letting younger folk share their knowledge and also gain knowledge in turn from them.
I see it as invaluable for prepping as being able to do things is always a bonus!
It's just, how to go about actually doing it. Does anyone know?
    Thank you - xx Jeannie

RAS that's very true - but Shetland is like the other end of the earth to mainstream news and the SE of England so nobody pays it any attention.

I was just reading a post on facebook where a girl said'' Have your torches and batteries ready, turn the radio on and fill your bath tub with water....she got various replies....one asked if an auto flushing loo would work with water poured from a bucket, another asked if the bath full of water would protect the apartment......and the best post was this one...

Ashley Smith Ok the biggest reason to put water in the tub during a storm like that if u turn on your water while there is lightning it will go through the faucet and you will get electrocuted not to mention its for extra clean water because with the hurricane the salty ocean water will contaminate the clean water supply. I hope everyone will be OK. Our prayers from Oklahoma/tornado ally.

They seriously need to be on this forum.........lol
