I wouldn't worry about dates on tinned stuff. Didn't they recently open some 100 year old baked beans, and found they were fine to eat? :)

Little bit perturbed about the shop with all the weaponry

I'm just getting us prepped for redundancy.
Didn't realise there were people in Britain who were so hardcore;thought that was just in America :o

How long can you keep pulses for without having to bin them? Just found some soup mix and a packet of green lentils in the back of a cupboard seriously out of date

Thanks for the link, there's also a video article here:

I'm pretty sure they found some lentils under one of the Egyptian pyramids that were still edible. Of course the storage conditions might be rather different!

Most are illegal to carry without good reason, something it would be difficult for preppers to claim they possess.

In a genuine, full on SHTF situation, I would think the authorities would have far more important things to worry about, than a middle-aged man/woman, carrying a sheathed knife on their belt.

Complete amateurs though. This is what TPTB will be afraid of crowds with these:-

The recent proposed tax credit cuts aren't a bad idea long term, BUT they have to greatly increase the wages for ev1 in the bottom half of society to make up for it. The rich who support and make all their money mostly via banks and large corporations could afford it, they are just greedy and don't want to do it.

:) This middle-aged woman in a crisis will be carrying her bushcraft knife on an under-clothing lanyard. To keep it ever present, handy - and hidden.

And if I can't think any better than that, perhaps I'd deserve whatever would be coming to me...............:rotfl:

    I've been Money Tipped!
Does anyone have any tips on using a Fire Pit please?

I am sure a few folk here will have one as part of their SHTF inventory ;).

I have just ordered this model from Amazon and was wondering if anyone puts sand in the bottom of theirs to help protect it (haven't seen any comments regarding it on Amazon).

Also, do people find it is best to use charcoal or wood blocks/logs.

We have access to lots of fallen tree branches but I think you have to dry that for 6 to 12 months before use to prevent lots of smoke (?).

    Ta.

I like the idea that it folds up, so can put it in the shed in bad weather, will take up a bit less room than a chiminea (which I was looking at buying).

This was my point when I mentioned the best preps are those that are not needed.

If you can avoid trouble of any kind then you have succeeded. If however you suddenly find yourself in a bad position because of a bad decision you made then yes preps come in very handy. Though the best strategy is to avoid trouble so you do not need to need to use any prepping items, and effectively announce yourself as a prepper and possibly someone with lots of food supplies when things turn ugly.
