I use oil for cleansing (various kinds - linseed, almond, olive - whatever is about really). It works well - but you need to put it on, leave it for a bit then wipe off with a hot cloth. If you cleanse with oil you don't often need to moisturise as you skin isn't stripped of it's natural oils. The oil isn't intended to be absorbed, but to remove the dirt without damaging the skin.
Moisturisers generally add water (often in an emulsion with oil). if you want to use oil to moisturise, then squalane (but get the olive version, not the whale version) is the easiest to absorb. But the best option is to cleanse with oil rather that water to avoid stripping the skin's natural oils which are designed to prevent it drying out.0 -
I keep flour and lentils in the bottom of the fridge, just because there's tons of room in there. Not sure how long the flour will keep for but it's one bag of plain SR and bread, in case of emergency.
Nothing as bad as a rock bun emergency or an apple sponge emergency..

The new LED or LCD monitors are very efficient electricity wise compared to CRT monitors so you should also see a reduction in energy use.
I think if I use any less electricity (currently £2.55 a week) my supplier might decide my business isn't worth retaining! :rotfl:But yes, it will be interesting to see what happens.
Interesting discussions about pantry pests such as flour weevils. I haven't had them personally but Mum accidentally allowed flour decanted into a plastic tub to go OOD and when she went to use it, there were little greyish critters in it, which she showed me. It's good to be able to recognise the enemy.
I also like those Le P@rfait jars a lot and use them for both general storage and for putting up my beetroot preserves. A pal with an old cottage which is rather prone to indoor wildlife likes them as the rubber seals defeat little critters after your dried goods. Some wee beetles can apparently get into screwtop jars by walking around the thread of the jar's neck under the lid - little bu88ers, hey?
Pest control, whether insects or rodents, is an important part of preptastic life. Or any life, really, you should hear the things the public tell me and mine about when they've discovered critters in the homes, garages, sheds etc. They can do a lot of damage in a short space of time.
I'd be very reluctant to store things such as upholstered furniture in a garage or shed, even for a week or two, based on what I've heard IRL.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I'd be up for having a go with those crossbows, though proper archers sneer at them as being too easy to use. Will be plying the longbow this evening, practising a very obsolete skill and having a great time among other folks, from 8 to 68 and from all walks of life.
When I think of the people I've encountered who wouldn't attract a second glance anywhere, and the things they know, can do, own, I think that TPTB wouldn't have a clue who to round up in the event of a domestic insurgency...........:pEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Re food storage I'm a great fan of glass kilner jars. They are worth the investment imo. They are hygienic, ravenous rats can't chew their way through them and if the contents do start breeding little critturs, they are kept in their place.
Re moisturiser I sometimes use organic cold pressed virgin coconut oil.
It is so versatile - food, moisturiser, deodorant even...
You can also add some to a bath and will come out silky smooth. But be aware it has the same effect on the bath itself so careful not to slip and concuss yourself on the way out!0 -
