Realised after sorting I have a load of tinned spuds and dried spuds all coming close to date so would love any creative ideas to use up

How about using sliced potatoes instead of pasta sheets in lasagne? Combined with other veg and an egg to make vegetable burgers? Potato and tomato curry? Or my all time favourite basic which I make rarely - just boiled potatoes (so that they are in no danger of falling apart), which are then deep fried, crispier than potato wedges (though not as healthy). Lovely with a pile of baked beans.

Here is a story that most Americans should be concerned about. Dogs shooting people!

    :) Afternoon all.

ALIBOBSY, there's a recipe which my late auntie used to do with potatoes which should work just fine with tinned ones.

In a heatproof dish like a Pyrex, layer slices potatoes, alternating with cheese and salt and black pepper (hold the salt on canned spuds, they have plenty) and finish with a top layer of cheese. Pour in milk until just under half way up the dish. Place on baking sheet against spills and bake in a medium oven until top is golden brown. Delicious and not too expensive.

Actually, now I come to think of it, I might do that for supper myself.:D

  • I prefer tinned potatoes sliced and fried or roasted with some rosemary or cumin.
Why not donate a few tins and packets to your local foodbank.

Hiya, just de-lurking to say the potato suggestions sound delicious. In the past, I've used tinned potatoes to make leek and potato soup, which can then be frozen. Chop & wash leeks, fry lightly in oil (optional, but tastes nice) make up a Knorr veg stock cube as per pack with water,(this brand stays a light colour) add to the leeks and cook until soft, add potatoes minus the salty water. Heat through then blend and serve with crusty bread. Very cheap to make if you can nab some YS leeks.

    Hello all
Just popping back in to say I have one of the muck forks frugalsod linked to. Its embarrassing as I seem to be outed with my preps even though I didnt know I had this particular weapon!! Yes mine is pink too!!
Im still here and prepping but RL seems to be getting in the way of my internet time, I keep up with the thread when I can.
Prepping wise Ive been processing fruit and veg from the garden, building up yet more stocks of firelighters (1/2 price as they were labelled for BBQ's!), more candles, dry foods, cans, oil etc
My Rambo son is still on "kill it cook it eat it"and getting a much better shot with his new scope and practice targets that have zombies on them!! He watches lots of instructional videos on u tube, I think he is a bit obsessed!
I seem to be obsessed with YS bargains I have two huge chest freezers full, loads of jam, jellies etc made from YS fruit. Lucky I have a generator just in case the electric goes down otherwise I would be seen sobbing over my freezers Lol!

    Crikey Elaine,

You'd better keep an eye on your son on Halloween, lest he mistakes 'trick or treaters' for zombies. :)

L*dl are apparently having a half price weekend on some items, including 49p Mcennedy Jelly Beans, 250g. I can't remember if it's jelly beans or jelly babies that are popular on this thread.

I think it is jelly babies but the Lidl jelly beans are def worth popping in for, especially since they are half price. There are some good flavours in there, they are really tasty.

I will be stocking up, need lots of sugar if the SHTF and we are snowed in for 4 months this winter.
