:) Thanks for that, nuatha, I am relieved that the monitor seems to be the problem rather than the main part of the pooter. And very pleased that the WHUMP has stopped as it was making me jump out of my skin, it was so loud and so random.

I have a couple of places where there might well be a secondhand monitor looking for a new home and will put out feelers. If they don't pan out, I will look at getting one - will price up new ones vs whole new desktop PCs.

If I go quiet for a while, infer IT problems and, like Arnie - I'll be back.......:rotfl:

Is Rapport really terrible? I feel a bit of an idiot asking, but I've had it for years, and never seemed to have a problem with it ...

I think the biggest factors are environmental, so smoking, drinking too much and sunbathing all damage the collagen in the skin which ages it significantly. Avoid those and you should look younger and healthier without much extra effort or product.
Oh well I have never smoked, don't drink and don't like the sun. Maybe it wasn't just luck that my skin was fine for 60 years.

Given my profession, I will hear a lot more complaints about products than compliments, that said I've removed Rapport from a sizeable number of systems over the years (though not over the last couple, since I try to avoid domestic work). My preferred method of removal is to format the hard drive and reinstall from fresh - there is no clean way to uninstall the product. If you aren't having problems then as long as you don't change your configuration (eg upgrade to 10) then you may well not have problems. It is also possible that the product has improved over the years - but I've seen high end systems brought to a crawl with just the installation of Rapport.
I've also got concerns that it breeds a false sense of security - I remember its anti-keylogger being defeated. But I describe myself as being professionally paranoid.
  • Re using olive oil for cosmetic purposes and it doesn't work out too well in fact - not imo anyway.

I was using it for body lotion type purposes and realised it must be laying on the surface of my skin (rather than getting absorbed) - as I would put some on after my morning shower and find that, during the course of my nights sleep, it was transferring itself to my sheets and creating a grease mark.

It didn't even work for those moisturising purposes - as I found my skin had started to get minor "cracking" and tiny white flaking off of said skin. Maybe it works for younger skin - but it wasn't doing the trick for my dry 60-something skin and I've swopped to a "commercial" preparation, whilst getting my act together to make my own body moisturiser again.

Not a hope in hell of doing without facial moisturiser either - I soon remember I have dry skin the second my skin feels all tight and dry after I've had my shower if I don't put some moisturiser on it pretty promptly.

I've never had a problem with Rapport either - and the bank guarantees any losses as long as you have it installed.

I was listening to Radio 4 a while back about supermarkets and she might actually be making a big mistake.

I'm sure she is making a big mistake, but she's a label snob, and there's no telling her.

The new LED or LCD monitors are very efficient electricity wise compared to CRT monitors so you should also see a reduction in energy use.

I am not sure how it was used whether as an exfoliant or any other sort of cosmetic. It was more about a point of principle. We have had old school cosmetics for thousands of years and it has only been the last century that we have switched to a more formulaic version which is probably more linked to advertising than reality.

So what I was suggesting was that you look for natural versions that you could find the ingredients in the countryside or in a supermarket for a lot less than a chemists counter. It would all depend on what you were looking for.

    Try this for starters.

The have been numerous cosmetic trials on TV where people simply could not tell the cheap versions from the ultra expensive versions when you compared outcomes.

ALI check ALL your other dry goods, if you've got pantry beetle in one thing you might have them in other open packets in store, I had this once and so has DD1 and we had to chuck out everything including dried fruit etc as the little blighters were EVERYWHERE, you might be lucky and have found the only thing but it's really worth checking or you'll have the devil of a job getting rid of them if they get a foothold! They were even in the chocolate!!!

I went through everything else as I was cleaning out the cupboard anyway. TBH 99% of dry goods were in sealed glass jars-la parfait type. There was one bag of flour in a plastic bag not sealed and I checked it. Nothing in it but it was out of date and smelt a bit musty so it went anyway.

Bleached out the whole cupboard and checked the contents of the jars before I put them back all fine. TBH it was just a bit left in the bottom of the pack, but most of my dry goods get turned over that often that I rarely get the little biddies anyway.

They actually were small tiny grey beetles and I assume were some kind of grain weevil rather than larger beetles as such. But will be extra vigilant in the next few weeks just in case.
