Does no-one have cats to deal with their vermin problems btw? My long haired cat is a lazy git and undoubtably on my OHs side when it comes to vermin control but the other two would love the chance at a rat or mouse, especially Mad Kitten.

Totally agree! They have to be good for something :rotfl:

My niece had a problem with mice for a long time.
The sonic plug in thing did not work.

Then, with a baby on the way, they decided to get a kitten.
Problem solved. No more mice for years now.
  • FIL had a mouse run up his trousers once and MIL, DH et all still think it is hysterical after 45 years.

    AARRRGGGHHHH!

:p Like wot you do, Mar?

I'm too darned big (nearly 6 foot and not exactly spindly) so can't pull the frail woman act, but I would if I could.

Today, amongst many other things too tedious to mention, I have been repacking the clothing part of my BOB into sturdy zip loc type plastic bags from the army surplus store. I also have a plastic liner in my backpack and a raincover in the lid of the pack. Backpacks can never be 100% waterproof as they have too much through-stitching.

I think it was Shirley Conran's Superwoman book where she observed that crises are invariably wet and cold.

ETA BBB the old country boys used to tie binder-twine around their trousers to stop vermin rushing up there. You can never have too much binder twine/ string/ twisty-ties or even paracord.

    Thanks GQ

Will be covering my pj legs in garden twine tonight!

GQ size and height has nothing to do with it, it's all in the graceful tilting of the head and batting of the eyelids :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

ARGHHHHH I found some of the Tremors creatures today but not in my food stash, alas among my jumpers and woolens! Fancy cashmere high-neck and lovely green merino jumper got gawping holes in front! BUGG&R, at least if the holes were somewhere else a few mending stitches would not be quite so visible, but they are now.

So, bunged them all up, holey and non holey and taken them to the dry cleaners. £3.50 apiece! Luckily the young Turkish guy was open to negotiation so I managed to do a deal, £30 for 11 jumpers, with the promise of bringing more custom in the future. Then, back home, ordered a few breathable jumper storage bags from a cashmere company, but called them first and got a 25% off discount as a first time customer. Even with all the deals, the blasted beasts cost me £60 today! At least it is better than having to buy all my jumpers again! And just yesterday I was telling DH that I feel lucky that all my winter wardrobe is in good order, little did I know! The drawer where I keep these jumpers is also full with bits and pieces of cedarwood, fat lot of good it did it :(.

Helen2k8, I hope you get your referral quickly and they find what's wrong and resolve it successfully. Meanwhile you know that you can cope as you sound like a very organised person! Best wishes x

    Sorry to hear that

tis the RAT season. Dh found RAT droppings in his stored winter boot bag, it was on the topmost shelf in the garage, about 8 feet high. Farmer friend was telling me that rats don`t wee as such, they dribble, all the time and that is why it is so easy to catch weil`s disease. My 3 traps with pipes are now primed and in place, two in garage storage areas and one safely outside the house where we saw a RAT last year.

edit: I just turned tv on and it is all about super mutated rats on the news. Arghhhh

'Hello Kittie' (sorry, I had to say it like that)

I saw that too. Why didn't I turn the blessed TV off!

We use the sonic repellers to keep things out of the loft here...we get something called fruit rats ..actually a kind of dormouse..that delight in getting through tiny spaces to set up home in the loft. They eat through most things but you can't miss them as they make so much noise during the night running up and down and scratching and chewing. I had my doubts that the sonic repellers would work but they do for us!

Sounds like a good idea, would it upset dogs though?

    Hello VS
