I had prepper stocks in loft last year - dry goods in a plastic lidded container. Mouses ate through container and ate all the stuff. Hubby went daft and I no longer trust the big plastic storage boxes.0

BBB! :rotfl::rotfl: am having mental images of the big worm things in "Tremors" barrelling through your loft to get your stash!0

Hello J
I thought plastic would be chewable so stuck with glass/tin. Thanks for the warning though!

EEEPPP! As long as it isn't zombies (Zombies don't like dry goods do they?)
Having visions of rats or rabid squirrels lurking in the loft....

I think it'll be meeces, they sound very loud. Even birds in the loft in summer sound like they got hobnailed boots on. Send hubby up to see - that's what hubbies are for. If he screams and vanishes upwards then shut the hatch quick and run!!0

Where do other women get men like this? I've never had a single boyfriend that was anything worse than totally useless at this sort of thing, I've always dealt with the mice, spiders, wasps, rats and anything else the least bit icky. It's not that any of them were actually scared of the vermin you understand, just that most of them didn't care.Val.0 -

Hello Mardatha
You must be pyschic! OH went up there after gentle persuasion and I bravely stood on the bottom rung of the step ladder. He didn't see anything but said the loft insulation was very fluffed up like something was nesting ergh.... Luckily he has survived and is muttering about the council not turning up...
I am now suggesting he stoppers up any gaps....

VS you obviously haven't perfected hysterics and the art of looking small, helpless and fluffy0

Hello VS
I'm not good at looking small or helpless, but OH detests vermin having worked on a farm, so he wants rid ASAP. He has been known to fearlessly get the spade out and splatter...Not something I could do...
I can't even have rodent pets because he still thinks they are vermin too. Now trying to believe there are only cute little white mice up there....
May have to pay a visit to Q & B for traps.
Off now to feed OH after his manly episode....
Thanks all

Like wot you do, Mar?
I'm too darned big (nearly 6 foot and not exactly spindly) so can't pull the frail woman act, but I would if I could.
Today, amongst many other things too tedious to mention, I have been repacking the clothing part of my BOB into sturdy zip loc type plastic bags from the army surplus store. I also have a plastic liner in my backpack and a raincover in the lid of the pack. Backpacks can never be 100% waterproof as they have too much through-stitching.
I think it was Shirley Conran's Superwoman book where she observed that crises are invariably wet and cold.
ETA BBB the old country boys used to tie binder-twine around their trousers to stop vermin rushing up there. You can never have too much binder twine/ string/ twisty-ties or even paracord.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
