Wrights is a good brand too but give the packet a judicious sniff before you buy one, it's quite strong and the perfume lasts rather well on your skin. If you can find it/afford it the loveliest smell is from Pears Soap which is translucent brown and gentle on skins but I feel not so easy to find these days. Love the stuff!!!
when I am feeling a bit down I buy this soap... its the bestest soap in the wordl in my opinionWork to live= not live to work0 -
Georgeous stuff isn't it CTC? and I know it costs a bit but it lasts a long time and never looses that lovely perfume too!0

yep, now that is the smell of some of my childhood,
Years ago, when teeesssscccooo had the health and beauty leaflets with the point vouchers in there, and money off vouchers in there too, I used to work out what I could buy that in the end would either cost me nothing, or i would get money back off my other shopping, and i bought loads and loads of pear's soap, they were in a box of 2, on special offer, basically buy one and get the other free.. sadly i run out of that stash a good while ago...
those were the good old days of extreme couponing lol..Work to live= not live to work0 -
I love Wright's Coal Tar Soap...reminds me of my Granddad and when I used to stay with my Grandparents. Happy Days indeed.
Today I bottled up some Elderflower wine. It looks slightly cloudy but hopefully it will clear and we will have 6 bottles of wine for Xmas/New Year. I've also been making some Blackcurrant Jam. So I have 4 jars at the moment. Have plenty more berries in the freezer so will make some more...maybe next week.0 -
I just bought some carbolic and Lifebuoy from that site happy35
and me, I couldn`t help myself and also got ellimans embrocation and some soap just like pears soap used to be. I got more carbolic than I need for day to day use but this ebola thing is scary in that the virus is likely to mutate and could well be transferred in ways other than by direct contact, so my carbolic soap will be in a handy soap dish easily accessible by anyone in my house.
and I have ordered the gloves too, nitrile ones actually. I love being prepared for any eventuality0 -

Carbolic soap contains phenol. Coal tar soap used to contain coal tar (hence the name) of which one of the many chemicals was phenol.
Real coal tar has been banned from anything that's not prescription (it's carcinogenic), so "coal tar" soap is just a brand name now to make you think you're getting what you're not.

For soaps like carbolic it may be worth trying your local markets as they sometimes stock them. In the past I have got both the pink carbolic and green fairy dupe which have the name Falcon on them. Have managed to get the bars from both Bury and Oldham markets so maybe worth a look. I have a bit of a thing for stashing bar soaps, I use to adore Zest lemon soap when I was a kid, wished Pears was still the same.0

welcome cottage living. I make lots of wine, including elderberry. Elderberry wine contains a lot of tannin and will be at its best between 2 and 5 years after clearing. Too early and it will not taste that good Mine is 18 months old and we opened a bottle last week, it is still not ready so I will have to sit tight for another couple of years. I love elderberry wine when it has developed that well rounded taste0 -
