    Old fashioned ironmongers shops....
:) Especially if they've got skinny little old geezers in brown overall coats serving. The ones who know every doodad and thingummabob in hardware.

I have spent many a happy minute leaning over a counter with such treasures, sketching a plan for something random I want to make, asking if they had a thingamajig which would do..............?

Hardware stores are the best. Have a fabulous one 5 mins' walk away, a palace of many delights. I skip into that shop at the slightest opportunity.

karmacat, woodlice are cuties, and silverfish are quite harmless and pretty. I'm a downer on the gastropods because they do so much damage, but I like some creepy-crawlies a lot. I have reached an entente cordiale with The Tribe of Pod, those gangly spiders, which dominate my flat, and they get a free pass although their webs will get tidied away from time to time.

I was intending to rescue the silverfish once I'd finished washing my hair, shoulda done it first then it wouldn't have got Lux'd to death.

Hi i get the ulcers as i have a new "false tooth" newly put in and its soooooo sore getting "broken into my mouth".

Aloe vera is good for soothing and healing skin, even inside the mouth. Put a dab on and give it a few moments to sink in - you might look daft sitting with your mouth hanging open while it gets to work but it's very effective.

You can use the commercial gel or the real thing from inside a leaf.

I leave most creepy crawlies alone as they can be beneficial. Spiders are definitely allowed. Bees and wasps if they ever get inside are helped to get back outside, unharmed. Flies get whacked with a good old fly swat. While they have a benefit in nature in helping to reduce carcasses they have no purpose in my home.

    Mmmmm........creosote........love it! And new tarmac.

They were resurfacing the pavement in the next street the other day and I was very tempted to just stand there and breathe in deeply for a while, but was worried they'd think I was weird :D

Yes I love Mr T substitution policy re online orders. It is one reason why I continue to still shop with them. The value soap is perfectly acceptable.

GreyQueen, very envious of your Lux soap find, this is a brand that is hardly seen anymore yet it is so lovely. The aisles in the supermarkets can be packed with rows of shower gels and I just walk by them, but round places like markets where the bar soaps are more common I always stop to see what they have.

Does anyone know if ladybirds are in decline? One landed on my arm yesterday in flight, really beautiful orangey-red colour but it was the first I had seen for absolute ages.
