Re Ticks. Never try to take them off yourself. See a vet, they have a special tool for safely getting them off. A vet is allowed to treat humans.

I just read this thread, am not a prepper in any way, but I have to point out this is totally incorrect. I am a vet, and cannot give treat or give medical advice to a human. We can perform basic first aid (we have trained first aiders, I am not one of them) but we always advise to see a doctor/pharmacist.

Even if a patient has a zoonotic disease (a disease of animals that humans can catch) we cannot treat them, but advise to see a medical practitioner and inform them of the pets diagnosis.

It is totally illegal for us to prescribe medicine for a person, even ourselves. Our nurses (or vets) would not remove ticks from a person, we might be able to sell a tick remover, but certainly wouldn't remove the tick from you! (to be honest-yuck! we get people showing us rashes etc _pale_ I don't do people ailments, I'm a vet!!)

We get people ringing up saying their child has eaten one of the dogs tablets, and we direct them to their doctor, letting them know the active ingredient etc. but we CANNOT treat or give medical advice to a person!

"How can you borrow your way out of a debt crisis if the problem was created by too much spending, too much borrowing, too much debt?

So why are they still borrowing mega amounts of money?

But it was Britain that faced greater cuts in the IMF forecast than any of its major fellow economies, including Spain, Italy and other troubled euro economies.

The IMF also revealed that this year, for the first time in the crisis, Britain will have a bigger budget deficit than Greece, as the economic collapse undermines the public finances.

"A year on, with Britain in a double-dip recession, borrowing rising as a result and growth forecast to be minus 0.4%, there can be no question that a change of course is urgently needed."

    Ya think???

The European countries who are in trouble, like Greece, are borrowing more to pay back the greedy lenders...simples. Not one cent of any of the money has gone to Greece or its people. None for the health system, non for the pensioners and none to the schools. It is never actually paid to Greece at all, it goes in a special escrow account which cannot be touched by anyone except the bankers when they collect it back.

Germany made 1.5 billion euros profit on the first loan the day Greece paid it back to them. Unfortunately the world press don't publish the truth about what goes on...

which is why I have just agreed to be a writer for a Greek ''underground'' site that publishes the truth of what is going on and what life is like here for an ordinary person living in Greece.

Greece hasn't been ''given '' money by anyone in the EU,they have been given loans at massive amounts of interest. At one point I pointed out to the EU that Greece would have got the loan cheaper from Visacard!!!!!!:rotfl:

We had recalled some programme we watched where they used a hot match (blow it out first) to touch the tic and make it withdraw its jaws. I know you can sometime leave the jaws in your skin and get infections. TBH we were out in the sticks and in an area we didn't know that well so driving to a town big enough to have a vet and getting treatment wasn't that great an option-but good to know. Oh just wanted them off lol.

Well, I have had people tell me not to worry about the future and what Governments do. Just live in the day and think of yourself.

Well considering what they are planning on doing will affect me, my income will become much reduced whether they say I am fit for work or remain on the benefits I receive, that I am getting older so I have little if any chance of building up any savings at my age(as I will be penalised again)

I would say that I have to think about what's happening but the worst thing is I cannot change a b***** thing.

I know it is not just me and many are struggling to a greater or lesser amount. Any respite is temporary.

I don't need to go through all that I am doing to try and manage as many others are doing similar and I have written about rationing the CH, electric and buying lower priced food and eating less...

Not much more I can do...and usually I am so strong in character...

Just made another big-ish AF order, and got a free pestle and mortar as an offer (would have prefererred free delivery but never mind).

Lots of teas, dried beans (Aduki) and miles of toilet paper!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

A question borne out of curiosity, please.

When discussing different shops, etc, why do people miss out some of the words and add stars, or such like, in their place?

Is there some rule where you shouldn't say Asda, or Tesco, or Amazo. and so on.

This has always puzzled me and I am genuinely interested in why the letters are blanked out with *** :o
Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. My mind is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the way to a just and right resolution. Amen.

I think there was something a bit like what the BBC do when they don't advertise and also if you were going to criticise a retailer/company but we all know which shop we are talking about and they all get equal praise/criticism and I think we know how far we can go.

I just mention the place and have never missed a letter out and have never been told not to...

Others I think just do it because they always have...

I do it to reduce the chance of it coming up on search engines but obviously if someone gives the full name, and I'm on the thread they can track me anyway! :rotfl:

    its so it doesn't show up in the search engines, in a way it would be free advertising for them; nothing to do with MSE rules;

I'm sure anyone who has a complaint against any of them would be quite happy for them to read about it on here :D
