Seen this story mentioned on a few sites

Basically the chinese gov have let a chinese company default on a debt repayment. Now in the past investors and the markets have assumed the chinese gov would not let any company default, but now they have.
This could effect credit in China which currently has massive amounts of borrowing, or may be a little blip. We will see.

Still wondering about buying a dehydrator or pressure canner and now had added a vacuum sealer to my wants list lol.
I am thinking that if I got one of those dehydrators with the clear plastic trays that if we get any sunny days I could use it without plugging in to take advantage of free "solar" energy. Even if I then finished off by plugging in for a short period.
I have dried small amounts of herbs/flowers hung in the shed or on trays in the sun so think it would work.
DD3 been ill all night, OH slept on the sofa whilst I spent all night up and down with her. Not good when I don't get my sleep, I get confused and clumsy lol. Was hoping to get out in the garden as its supposed to be dry, but spent most of the day nursing the little one (typing one handed now lol).
Had some sun, but showers as well and quite windy so couldn't have done the greenhouse fix anyway. Will get my new strawberry roots in tommorrow and keep sowing the seed trays in doors.

Sorry have not been back for a while but been caught up in trying to empty overstuffed study so builders can have access to veranda on Monday. They are replacing all the veranda doors in the block of flats as well as grinding out and resurfacing veranda itself.:eek:
Most of my neighbours use the room as a spare bedroom so have not much to move but I have a wall full of floor to ceiling bookshelves stuffed with reference book etc which are also hiding food stores. Also a desk, computer, printer, chest of drawers (old and heavy) and LOADS of files and FAR TOO MUCH loose paper. Not easy to move or find other places to put them.
With regard to the Tax man, the person I spoke to said that as year end was so close they wouldn't bother recalculating now. Unfortunately I'm not a state pensioner yet - they moved the age on me and I have another 18 months to go.
I always make sure there is enough in bank to pay DDs - and have a small surplus NOT in the bank just in case. But dare not use for reason other than dire emergency.
On a different subject, I used to have one of those small pans which passed down thru my mother from my grandmother. Didn't last too long with me am afraid. I forgot about it one day and it just turned into a melted, burnt mess. :rotfl::rotfl:I have a terrible history with pans.
Right, I'd better go and move some more paper.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
Afternoon all, we decided to top prune our Silver Birch tree this afternoon, it's not even showing leaf buds at the moment, just the beginnings of catkins, but when we cut the first branch, fairly far up the trunk it started to bleed sap quite copiously. We'll have to leave it until the autumn or we'll kill it but it made me think that in a world where there was no sugar being produced we could use the birch sap, which is quite sweet, to make a sweetener by evaporating off som of the liquid and making a syrup the way that Maple Syrup is made traditionally. I've had a look in my foraging books and you can cut a plug from the trunk and tap the tree for its sap and then replace the plug and the tree will 'heal' itself and stop dripping. You can take a whole demijohn full of sap, round about a gallon without doing any damage to the tree. Might be worth putting that bit of knowledge under your hat for in the future?0

Ooooh that's good to know we have a Birch Wood not too far away.0
