Finally, I can have eggs that fit the muffins.

Bought myself a one egg frying pan.

With an inside base diameter of only 4", my fried eggs will come out perfectly round, and just the right diameter to fit an oven-bottom muffin.

I like. Less washing up and an excuse to play house. Now where's my tiny teapot?

We knew something was going on. There were more than six fighter planes screaming overhead all day from before 08.00 last Thursday till after 19.30. We're nowhere near Norfolk, so probably other areas have had their own airshow on subsequent days.

    De-lurking again...

I am in a position at the moment where I can start building up food stores in case the SHTF.

Problem is where to store this (tinned goods, dry, and things like cleaners/washing stuff etc.)

I have a huge loft with shelving in it that would be ideal, but would this be too hot in the summer to store these things as it ends up like a sauna up there??
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

    :) Morning all.

Calicocat, I wouldn't use the loft for storage of food as I believe the temperature fluctuations would cause stored food in tins, tubs and packets to lose its quality. Stored food should be neither too hot nor too cold, steady and coolish is better.

Of course, this doesn't mean that it is wasted space. You could store paper products up there such as t.p., kitchen rolls and a supply of paper plates and cups. Although all of these things could potentially be quite attractive to meeches as bedding materials.............

I keep canned foods under my bed in an unheated bedroom, and in random places such as inside a storage stool, in the odd pretty storage box, the bottled oil lives in neat rows around the edge of the saucepan cupboard and tinned sardines sit neatly in the shallow drawers under my sofa.

I've also head of Armageddon Cupboards inside wardrobes and boxes of foods lurking under tabletops with long tablecloths. Really, the sky's the limit. I've got furniture designed for one purpose doing another, such as the CD/DVD cabinet which houses my sewing supplies. Oh, and it also houses quite a few cans in the pull-our section around the back which isn't at all obvious that exists at all.;)

People have also discussed putting false backs on kitchen base units, to fit a stealth shelf behind, and attaching the back of the cupboard with magnets.

I bet a bit of internet cruising will reveal a wealth of ideas for things which may be appropriate for your home.

Oh, and the reason for having supplies of paper plates and cups is that if the water supply is off, you won't want to be using precious drinking water for dishwashing, so you move temporarily over to the paper supplies. If not needed, you may have to have a BBQ party and use them for your guests. HTH.

Thanks to the shoddy workmanship of the guy who installed my kitchen - a nudge of the plinth at the base will bring it toppling down - revealing a ton of space underneath the units (which stand proud of the floor).
But I have to say I don't at the mo fear zombie hordes trying to steal my stuff. I think that things would have to be at total collapse first. Plus most people don't even realise there are houses here. So much so that when the main road was recently repaired, despite the barriers being placed beyond the turn off to our access lane, a succession of annoying road workers tried to stop us before the turn off, because they thought we were headed along the road and couldn't imagine anyone living down here. :D
As for storing dry goods - it's amazing what's attractive to rodents. Some little critters chomped their way through a length of that grey foam pipe insulation stuff in what I though was secure outside store. Plus they weed copiously everywhere. Stinky and not nice.
