Morning campers, welcome in to the thread ROADSIDE and MIKEY MACBETH glad to have you with us, the more participants, the more knowledge and the more ideas, always very pleased when readers along become regular posters.
Yet another early morning wake up with torrential rain from 3am which seems to be a regular pattern for the past few weeks, it's still pouring down now but we're set up above the road level so still OK and only little bits of flooding here in the low lying areas of the village and along the riverside. The weather forecast this morning is suggesting that the weather will calm a little over this week but what I'd really like is just a few dry days to be able to get on to the allotment and garden as I'm sure the standing crops will be rotting in all this wetness. Still I can't complain as we've been lucky here compared with folk who live on the coast or in the low lying areas of the country, take care of yourselves, hope all is well with everyone. I'm going to go through the food stores over the next couple of days and use up anything that is likely to go out of date, I don't count tinned food in that as Best Before doesn't really apply and I'll see a bowed can if there is one and discard it. What I check for is the dry stores and possible insect infestation which is THE most unpleasant thing to deal with, particularly moths which take years to eradicate completely YUKKK!!!
Looking at the weather extremes they are experiencing in Canada and the US makes me more convinced than ever before of the sense in keeping my stocks up and having alternative means of cooking and lighting and staying warm. It sounds as if there is worse to come with bitterly cold temperatures out there, I wish those poor folks all the luck they'll need to emerge unscathed when the thaw comes. not nice at all!!!

Absolute agreement from me, MrsLW, it may be bad here but it's not that bad. I'm a mere couple of hundred yards from the River Stour, with another smaller river in between, but up an incline and pretty much dry & cosy although our view (such as it is, if you peer out of one window at an angle) is rather more aquatic than its usual bucolic self. However our friends in Oklahoma have all hunkered down in one house to keep warm & safe, all 5 generations of them! The power lines are frozen solid & can literally snap if the wind gets up, and they're still clearing up after the tornado. It's not a gentle place...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
We have had a lot more problems with mould since we had loft insulation.
You can't win, can you?
OH knows quite a few tradesmen who reckon in some roof spaces they have literally seen condensation dripping off the inside of the roof as its has been so tightly sealed and insulated. TBH it pushes up the condensation all over the house and mould grows because of increased moisture and reduced air circulation. Best bet is to get the windows open when you can, try for a blast everytime you get a dry day, and wipe up any condensation you see on window sills when you see it.
Still its better than spending money on heating bills lol.

Interesting, I don't have a kindle but did take a look and read the review. Just the other night we were watching RT and they were doing a news piece on a new drug called crocodile I think. It is addictive and kills within a year of using ! At the time we saw it we both wondered if it was a way of population cleansing and had been developed for that purpose. Who knows what measures those in charge will go to.
You can download the kindle software for free at Amazon and read the books on a laptop/pc/smartphone or tablet doesn't have to be a Kindle.

BB, it is a Marksman, not a brand I have come across before but it was a good deal with the canisters, from Amazon
Is it this one?
BTW. If you don't already have one, I'd recommend getting a stove top kettle.
It'll save a lot of gas, compared to boiling water in an open topped vessel such as a saucepan.
Also, if you get one with a whistle, it'll save it getting burned out, when you forget about it.0 -
Woke up to a clear sky and dry weather but, within about 30 mins, it was raining again.
Also, wind is starting to get up again.
As for the torch test, I can hardly believe it but, the single LED large hand torch is still producing a tiny bit of light. :eek:0 -
Waving at the new faces, always nice to know we aren't alone in our thoughts on this thread.
OH ended up going to hospital the other day after I posted on here, but after blood tests was sent home. He has been reassured his liver, kidneys and pancreas are all working fine and his symtoms are directly related to gallstones/gallbladder issues, but its not infected and its a case of waiting for his appointment to see the consultant in a few weeks.
Been hammering down and very windy here-cats inside and even chickens retired to the coop at one point lol. Oddly then had about 30 mins of sunshine, although its clouding over again. Glad ev1 seems to be coping with the bad weather so far, I suppose we should be glad not to be in the US/Canada.
For those interested there is a massive sunspot moving across the surface of the sun at the moment, its the biggest one seen for years and has the potential to throw high level energy at us, leading to weather effects/communication issues. Then again it may do nothing lol.
Also wondering if the storms in the US will move across the Atlantic and hit us in a couple of weeks.

Well, after hanging about eavesdropping for way too long, I have finally pushed open the door and come in to join you all. It will take me a while to get to grips with the techy stuff so please do bear with me, but I hope to be able to contribute a little from time to time in exchange for all I have taken from this thread whilst lurking.....This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
