Wind is definitely getting up now (isn't Alka Seltzer brilliant? :D ), and it's starting to rain too. :(

I live on the top of a 60 foot cliff at the mouth of the River Tyne and get to see some really wild weather. Would only be worried if we got continual heavy wind driven waves - have seen the water pick up a new tarmac car park and lay it on the grass behind.

However, our flat was almost flooded one year when torrential rain broke the down pipe on the flats and our veranda flooded - me and OH spent an hour bailing out til rain stopped.

That was when we bought wellies!

:p But did you get the cat in? They don't like getting wet.

Wild Thing and The Q (littermates but not pals) have apparently established an entente cordiale over simultaneous use of the only-windowsill-immediately-above-a-radiator. This was brokered by my Dad.

We will be dispatching Dad to various global trouble-spots shortly (he does everything shortly, he's a smallish geezer). Look out for outbreaks of peace and harmony; his tactic is to feed both sides of the argument with tinned fish, talk to them softly and drop them in the same area.

If fur doesn't fly, this experiment is considered a success.

BTW. If you don't already have one, I'd recommend getting a stove top kettle.

It'll save a lot of gas, compared to boiling water in an open topped vessel such as a saucepan.

Also, if you get one with a whistle, it'll save it getting burned out, when you forget about it.[/QUOTE]

That's the one, I do already have a camping kettle with whistle, but I do need to hunt it out of the garage and put it with the stove and gas somewhere that is easy to get to.

She went out last night (of her own accord), stayed out all night and day, then shouted to be let in this evening.

She was rather wet, and cursed me for her being wet, as though it was my fault. rolleyes.gif

Pretty standard bit of badge engineering.

A quick Google found the same product under two different names.

I've got an identical one, labelled "POWER PLUS PORTABLE GAS RANGE".

If you search around a bit, you will probably find it available, under at least a dozen names.

They're a good design (I've had my two for years), so I can't foresee you having any problems, especially as you aren't dragging it up hill and down dale.

I've had several different stoves over the years, mostly used when on events with a catering company I used to work for. When I first started with them some of the other staff used to extract the Michael when I rocked up with my four man tent, cooker, camp bed, quilt, sleeping bag, pillow, more blankets, food, and whatever else I could cram in the boot of the car. They didn't laugh for long, a good night's warm sleep, with a cuppa and a proper hot meal, or even a good wash with hot water can keep a body going for far longer than sleeping on the ground with no access to hot food and drinks unless they were prepared to queue at the catering units when they were open, spending a fortune in the process. I love camping, but I still like my comforts.

:) Yeah, but think about it like this; you and me are approx the same vintage and there are exactly twice as many people in the UK now as when we were born. 'Mazing, innit? :rotfl:It's a wonder we've room to walk around the streets.

Population went up 28% between 1951 and 2011 (44 to 56 million) though the Daily Mail were suggesting it would hit 131 million in another century - breathing space might be scarce.

Seems like a formula for success, I'm a lot more tractable when I'm being fed. It has to be a better tactic for diplomacy than threatening with big guns or seizing their money.

Have you considered swapping to growing rice on your allotment? :D

It has been suggested!! We had a good year last summer though, it's very fertile land so if it doesn't flood, we're good ;)

Evening all, and welcome to all the recent delurkers.

Was reminded today of the importance of making sure you've always got cash on you, or alternative arrangements.

We have a cash machine at work, one of the good ones which gives £5 notes. Sadly, it is out of order. It made me wonder how many people had to venture out in the weather to go down into town (5 mins walk down, 10 back uphill) to go and get money.

I had cash. but only in the form of a £20 note. I refuse to use a £20 to pay for 60p worth of bagel in a morning, so made do with the various foodstuffs I keep under my desk. Lunchtime I had a can of soup as we're fortunate to have microwaves available, but did without the 25p bread roll I would have bought to go with it.

Had a call from hubby this afternoon. He went to hospital for his twice weekly appointment (dressing leg ulcers) and they kept him in. He's no cash on him, but luckily the cash machine there does work. I put credit on his phone at Christmas, so he's not stuck this time. He's a 60 miles round trip away from my parents - I can't drive so would have to get Dad to take me down - so it is unlikely I'll be going down there this week. Luckily, and in line with this thread, he does keep a couple of pairs of boxers and t-shirts in his rucksack, for when he needs them. (One of his disabilities means he can need to change at short notice.)

Anywhoo, tucked up in bed eating crumble mints as I refuse to put the fire on when it is only me. The cats have blankets etc they can snuggle in down there, and the dog is with me. *Phew* Must bath him tomorrow!
Not heavily in debt, but still trying to sort things out.
    Baby due July 2018.
