Yes let's not forget those who have been affected - on the news this morning they mentioned someone who was cooking Christmas dinner on a barbecue!
Let's hope those in the affected areas are helping each other out.
Might be selling up in the Spring and if I do buy again, where that property is situated will be the prime consideration.

they do that in Australia anyway...lol... But I bet you it will be a Christmas to remember, and along with the bad memories of the weather, they will also have some good ones about the BBQ on Christmas day...I hope the booze is flowing freely there...

BBQ'd Sprouts with marinated in bbq sauce....... lovely......

Think I better put the tv on... to keep updated on the weather

Happy xmas everybody - thank god its here and now we get on to the real event...New Year! :D
I think there will be a lot of new preppers after this lot of weather.
All the folk stuck in trains and at airports as well as those flooded or stuck without power. The weather seems to be getting more extreme and this is happening a lot now, plus they build houses where they shouldn't.
I'm quite gutted about my f/freezer - we've had powercuts daily for the last 3 days here, each one lasting about 2 hours. The readout on the f/f drops so fast in the freezer section its not real. Dropping from -18 to -6 in two hours?? I'm going to put an icecube in there just in case, as its full of meat and I don't want to risk food poisoning. Wish now I had gone for a solar chest one.
  • Merry Christmas everyone! Hope everyone on the thread is safe and dry today. Mardatha do you have the f-f inside? When we had a few days power cut a several years ago we put ours outside the back door, it was cold enough that the freezer stayed frozen all through. Would be a right pain this year as we've been given a meat box by the family - so instead of the usual YS stuff our freezer is crammed with more meat than we'd usually get through in a couple of months
  • Morning, and Merry Christmas, everyone.

Thinking of all those battling through adversity today, whether SHTF type weather or personal circumstances.

Santa trod lightly past, so OH is only just waking. Godkids slept through until 7.30 . Result! And both love their prezzies, so I'm all excited with that.

Baguettes are baked, presents to deliver stacked in the hall, and I'm looking forward to a picnic lunch in the countryside later.

Wishing you all a happy day. :)

PS - mar - good idea with the ice cube. I suspect that if I had done that, we would have known our American f/f was playing up way earlier. I hate to think what we might have been eating between it busting and us realising it. :o

  • Mar, can't you put some of the stuff from your freezer in containers out in the snow?

    Merry Christmas everyone.

Snow has melted and we have sunshine ! lol but very windy.
  • Merry Christmas Preppers, hope everyone is having a lovely day. We were woken at 5 this morning by a huge crash of thunder and hail enough to give us a white garden, so it really is a white christmas in this part of Hampshire. I have now become the proud owner of a 23 quart Pressure Canner woo hoo and fandabbiedosie, I am soooooooo happy. I can now aquire enough kilner type jars to preserve our produce without having to freeze it and run the risk of it spoiling in power outages. Can't wait for the growing season to come so I can play with my new toy. Have a good one all, Lyn xxx.

    Happy Christmas everyone!

Hey MrsL, what a great present, you'll have to let us know how you get on with it :)

Santa was very clever here too and I got a fruit press :D. Just told my dad and we've reached an agreement that he will provide the apples and we'll provide the labour and then we'll share the cider.

Our friends have had to abandon their Christmas dinner plans as they have had power cuts on and off for several days. They have a gas hob but electric oven and I think they had put the turkey in when the power went out again :(
