That's the theory mardatha, just figured I would need the leccy for the 'net to show me how to cast on. Now I can do it, I will be away with something to do should we be without power.

Can I claim the first powercut? Three hours this morning (back on now, obviously). Kids were fine and just played and the power came back on just as I was getting the trangia out for a cuppa
Obviously as a prepared person I hadn't let the batteries in my main torch run almost flat(there are about ten other torches scattered round the house including the kids ones, two wind-up lanterns and an unknown but not insubstantial number of tealights and candles so it wasn't a disaster).
Also I discovered that our analogue phone (one of the ones with the dial) wasn;t working - I thought it would run off the power in the phone line but maybe it doesn't apply to the non-BT service we're using. Will have to experiment.
Don't have a chainsaw but am thinking of chucking an axe and some ropes in the back of the car in case of fallen trees - or is that too weird? :rotfl:0 -

If we get something like that degree of surface water flooding, y'all be pretty much on your own until it subsides, frankly.
I'm just hoping we don't have street trees down across any of the major roads tomorrow because that'll cause chaos. I imagine there will be a lot of work for tree surgeons in the coming hours and days.
Have checked out the river by my block and she's well down but that could change in a hurry. If you were here, we could wander around the 'hood and look at the highwater marks on the buildings from various floods over the centuries.
Could be worse; not in York.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Sent you a PM with a link to their website which gives details of how to get to them, but the prices online are actually higher than those they charge in person.
In case anyone else wonders its between Leyland and Chorley.

Just charging batteries now, and putting anything thats normally stored on the floor, like in the pantry, onto a higher shelf. Some is going upstairs. My travel kettle's out and ready as well - going to set up the little camping gaz stove in a minute. Unlike the 1987 storm, when I slept straight through, these days storms tend to wake me up, so whatever the state of the leccy supply, I'll have a cuppa tea upstairs2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Its a bit blowy here but nothing to write home about. Took the kids to the park for a run around to burn off some energy, had a lovely sunday dinner now I'm stuffed! Its not raining now were had short heavy bursts but the sun is shining.
I have my candles ready and going to have a snuggly night.0 -
Just passed a Pets at Home and popped in to price up cat food - they had 2 x 24 cans for £19 which is cheaper than I usually pay. So I have a month's supply now in the store cupboard
Will remember to stock up next time I pass one. I'd been out to drop off a Christmas tree I sold on FBook for £20, so the cats and I were very happy with that trade!
It's very blustery here in North Hampshire, so I'm now tucked up in my snuggly clothes with the cats asleep in the fabric stash ready to take on whatever the weather throws at us. I'll be staying in, making stockings for my fairy ungodly children, nieces and nephew, and a wheatbag that has been requested as a Christmas present0 -
It's siling down in torrential sheets right now. You're early, go away!
There is a river of water running down the lane (fortunately not into the house) and I have sand and grit bags at the back where it does come in. Otherwise I'm all cosy and prepped. But oh no what's this? The dog is giving me her 'I need to stretch my legs' (cough) look :eek:0 -
