All clear here, lumps of roof fell through our open loft hatch and gave the cat a fright, nothing serious I hope.
Soon find out when the OH goes up there, bless quick set wet and dry roof gel lol0 -
Not much happened storm wise here, it was worse on Saturday night...
BUT... I think this was a good training/prep exercise for the peeps it didn't effect ..as it made us think and prep for a real situation..
Right better prep myself ready to go to work:(:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -
Not too bad here, next door has a fence panel that is hanging, but that is down to him to replace not us. We stowed a lot of stuff away before hand, so that can all go back out when DS gets his bot in gear.
DH phoned half an hour ago and said that they have lost power in the village. He will have to stay on site because if the batteries die on the alarms he has to be there to get the engineers out. So heaven knows what time he will be home, he can't do much because there is no power for the machinery, so he is just getting what he can done. He is only in four days this week as well, so this will put him right backBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Training - yes, if something bad *had* happened locally, I wouldn't have been quite up to speed. Must try harder.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Even if you only have torches, battened down the hatches and food supplies you are probably better prepped than 99% of the population, who, in a crisis would have to venture out and empty the shops shelves  A couple of bottles of drinking water, bucket of water for loo's, easy food and candles are a simple start but always useful so you can just lock the doors and wait out the storm.
Hope everyone is fine, take care all. Its wild and windy here but nothing major ( typing this with my fingers crossed)

Hope everyone is snug and safe this morning. Just our normal wet weather here oop north!
But my water pressure seems to be down. I got out the shower sharpish in case it went off - nothing worse than being left in a lather
. Will ask the neighbours to see if they have noticed anything. Meanwhile chased up a firm that could fit a chimney cowl on the recommendation of my coal merchant. But their website is all to pot - it shows their location as Paris! Just think of the call out charge....

Is this what you had in mind Grey Queen. The nth degree of failing to cope, nothing beats a visual.... August Bank Holiday weekend this year!

I have vague memory of a "chase" being an old word used for run offs or culverts? So perhaps not a great place to build houses on.
I always remember a patch of land near where OH worked at the council. The ordanance people used to say to OH about the fact that overhead surveys used to list a pond or small lake on the place as it so often flooded in autumn.
TBH they were all gobsmacked when builders stuck a load of houses on it. Needless to say sodden gardens and flooding have been reported in the last few years.
No one seems to bother about the natural bits of land where extra water should run off to and sticking houses and/or concrete down just pushes up chances of flooding.
Blummin awful to deal with if it happens to you though I would imagine. I have looked at those door panel things for flooding-you can get them for not too much if you fit them yourself. But I have lived around here since 79 and the only floods haven't got as far as our house-the river is slightly downhill and over fields away from us. But if they sold off the fields (mostly public land with walks etc) and it was covered with roads/houses I would worry about the water not being able to soak away and the chances of us flooding would definitely shoot up.

The scaffolding stayed up and we weren't affected by the water problems at Frankley. Phew.
Still need to get some bottled water while the lifts work.
However, all our candles are now in one place.‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

We seem to have missed the worst although the winds are strong to the north and south of us as well as further to the east along the Thames estuary. Just a normal autumn gale.
I did a list of things to check before the storm hit and it didn't take very long at all. Got extra logs in so that we didn't have to go outside in the pelting rain and kept the fire in overnight in case any of us couldn't sleep and wanted to come downstairs. We moved the cars to where we thought there was least chance of being hit by small branches and that was it, really. I had water, candles, torches, made a loaf of bread and took some milk out of the freezer so I didn't have to go out, and charged up the Kindles. None of us had to go to work or school (just as well as the trains aren't running) so we are lucky in that regardIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Seemed to miss the worst of it in the midlands. Seems like London and the south coast were hardest hit.
I was prepared in that I had a torch, batteries and plenty of candles to hand. But as far as I know, our power stayed on consistently.
I think we've been lucky!Because it's fun to have money!
