2T your posts make me nostalgic for my old expat lifestyle
but while I have the border collie (my version of 2.1 children
) even an overseas holiday is out of the question.
I think you do well to get out of Greece. It will become at best increasingly uncomfortable. I guess for those at the bottom of the food chain it is already more than uncomfortable. I read that a lot of medical staff had been laid off.
Anyway have fun - I'm a teeny bit envious!0 -

Hi CRAIGY poor POB, tricksy things these froggies, you never know what they're likely to do next, your little pal has probably heard the expression 'He's croaked!' and isn't going to take any chances, only sensible really. The Dockling is fine thank you, he's enjoying the weather being a bit warmer and when the sun is out is often found basking in the hot sunshine on the lawn all 4 feet in the air on his back and with a beautific grin on his little hairy choppies!!! I reckon if you're going to sin well then sin in HEAPS and have a really lovely holiday in Turkey, goodness knows you work hard enough to need one, no guilt involved, just go and ENJOY yourselves, it's good for the soul, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

The S can HTF on a personal level too. Around a year ago a neighbour's husband announced (on her birthday) that he no longer loved her and was henceforth a 'free spirit'. This was also practically a year to the day that he asked to renew their wedding vows . They've been in a state of limbo since - with him saying he couldn't afford to move. But today he is finally moving out having bought a house in the nearby village. I don't think she thought it would ever happen
. She doesn't know if he is buying it with the (finally admitted) floosie.
The furniture van has been and gone but his car has returned. Who knows what dramas are going on in that house. Pineapple is keeping her head down but has alcohol and a shoulder at the ready.0 -
Sorry to hear that Pineapple - I know personally that the financial ramifications have continued long after the emotional ones dissipated. Lovely that you are able to be there for your neighbour
2T great to hear from you - the very best of luck with your new job.

Just unlurking to say how great to hear from you 2t I was worried too! Good luck with your move and yes please keep posting! We are going back to Zante (hopefully) in 3 weeks time but am just a tad worried at recent developments! I will pack my trusty lightweight travel torch/lantern in case of power cuts! Ho hum what will be will be!
In other news I have completed more workshops and can now make bags and cushion covers from recycled fabrics, including a nifty cushion cover with a man's shirt panel insert, instead of a zip you just unbuttoned the "shirt" to get the cushion out! We made zippered purses using old fabrics (curtains etc) and reclaimed zips! I am quite addicted to this now and have become a bit of a womble collecting bits and pieces for my projects. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Thanks for all the good wishes , I really appreciate them. Just adding the final touches to the packing and doing the final bits of paperwork. Meeting up with some friends tomorrow to say goodbye before the car and bike are collected by the new owners.
I have given away a lot more than I sold to be honest, but it does feel good to help other people rather than worrying about gaining a few euros by selling it off bit by bit. I did get a bit freaked out by having no prepping stuff left at all in the house but since I am leaving it's no use worrying. As soon as I get to my new apartment I will be getting a few days emergency rations in and water supplies. Old habits die hard lol.
The scariest thing in Greece is the fact that all the money that has been borrowed is nowhere to be seen. The politicians and no doubt others have been salting it away in overseas bank accounts for the last few years. The health service has crumbled and now they are starting to close down hospitals and schools (merging them as they say). The doctors, police and firemen have not been paid for over two years in some cases. Pensioners have been reduced to a pittance pension and there is no longer going to be unemployment benefit in the winter even if you have paid contributions.
Our bank recently notified us that they can take measures to take property if you owe over 300 euros on it. You can now be arrested if you are stopped at a road block and you have outstanding taxes. You will be imprisoned until the next court hearing, whenever that is!
I feel sorry for the people we are leaving behind here, they have been very good friends to us over the last nineteen years. My heart goes out to them as it is going to be so tough for them over the winter months. The austerity seems to be dragging on forever and there is no light at the end of the tunnel for many here.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
Hi all, been MIA as work/life has been so busy!
Can someone please tell me the author of the book The World Without Us?
As for elderflower champagne Hmmm! I made doubly fermented lethal stuff a couple of years ago. My friend and I were totally legless,(6 bottles later) cant remember a thing except I woke up on the bathroom floor! Spent ages "talking to god on the great white telephone! for those who do not know what that means I will explain if asked!!
Got up the next "morning" and was still so drunk the room went round, fell straight back in bed!! Hangover lasted three days!
I stayed in bed all day, got up for a cup of tea and died again on the sofa!!
The next year I felt sick just thinking about making it! This year I still feel queasy if I think about the taste! Not sure I will be risking it again for a couple of years!
My favourites are HM blackcurrant brandy or mixed summer fruit one and sloe vodka ( cant stand gin!) These also are home made rocket fuel ( good for you stoves Bob!) but you can only manage a little so no rip roaring hangovers! Going to try home made wine this year, if SHTF at least I will be drunk as a skunk at the end of the world!!:rotfl:
Take care all, Elaine
