  • I understand what you are saying but that will cost a fortune which I dont have !!

in what way will it be noticeable?? mismatched paint or because its been applied a different way to how mazda do it??

Ive seen the results(only photos) of an 09 car in the same colour that has been resprayed and it looks like a good match.

go have a chat with some good body shops,. mention the paint scheme i said above, and if they would reccomend doing it blending into the doors and pillars. and get quotes also a report too for mazda and the existing paint.

this is the flake "popping" on the rear quarter panel.........

it does come up really well when polished but that finish doesnt last long as you start getting swirl marks etc.

it need a tougher top coat!

i love mica pigments, gives it that prism effect of colour that metal flake cant replicate.

have a chat with a few body shops, see what they can implement. i got a feeling that they will go for using water based, wich is not what you would want, ask for option of paints and what they can do such as polyester, 2k primer, and 2k acrylic laquer.

i can see the swirl marks, if the paint is soft no matter how much you try wont get it out unless you know of a 100% dust and particle free area and using many many cloths and alchohol wipes

5t, bow out of this one your looking pretty silly arguing your point.

Which point is that? The one where I said andygb was wrong to suggest it was all Mazda metallics because based on...

I can see from the photo's theres something very wrong with the paint, from my point of view, acrylic was used as top coat and if its the luguna blue mica they all do that as its not a metallic but a mica and a completely different base coat is used for the pigments.

I think I'm spot on to say he shouldn't do that.

I also said Subaru had a similar issue with the World Rally Blue MICA finish which was based on the experience I clearly don't have of owning one.

So, in summary, not so stupid and thanks for helping make my point for me :rotfl:

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Hmmm.. me thinks it would be very difficult to return a car back due to poor paint finish.. Given that there's no set standard on how good quality/resilient the paint quality needs to be (compared to say the mechanical function and interior quality of the car). It would be easy for Mazda to just say "you should have inspected the car carefully ebfore signing the dotted line". I think they will do that because paint jobs are expensive!! Costs more to respray a car than it does to replace the engine with a rebuilt one!

I think all you can say that is buyer beware, and maybe just maybe the dealer will be willing to take it back if you buy a slightly more expensive car, stick to German if you want tough paintwork, BMW, Audi, VW have solid paint finishes that last. my 10 year old golf looks brand new,.

Londontiger the whole point is we don't want to get rid of the car as it is perfect for us in every other respect.

What we would like is mazda to actually do somethung about the chips like they agreed to as part of the sale rather than try and cover them up like they have.
