Hi and thanks for the reply.

do you think it is worth pursuing the dealer I bought the car from to rectify it as was agreed in the sales deal.

Was it written down anywhere? Should be noted on the invoice if he'd done it right, you will have signed it.

If not, you might have an issue proving it but worth takign up with Mazda UK just to see if they can do anything about the promises made. this isn't your damage of course and to be that bad this car looks like it has had most of it's use on the motorway with the driver going to the Seb Vettel slipstream effect on the car in front.

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

nope absolutely not. you can feel them on the front of my car, whereas his paintwork is nice and smooth.

I used to spray cars (for a hobby) in the past, and the paint on certain Mazdas is far too thin (it is measured in "microns"), and the pitting is pretty obvious, because it leaves tiny craters, which have a lip, which them makes it nearly impossible to polish the car properly.

do you think it is worth pursuing the dealer I bought the car from to rectify it as was agreed in the sales deal.

The salesman who sold us the car told us it would be sorted but did not pass this info on to his mamager and has since left the company.

We have only had the car a month.

    cheers

As your car is covered by the warranty, I would guess that you have three alternatives:

Go to Mazda UK/main dealer first maybe, and insist that the paint is too thin, and the vehicle is not of merchantable quality.

Write in to BBC Watchdog, and report the whole incident, and the responses from Mazda.

Sell the car. I know that this sounds drastic, but would you honestly feel good about the car in 6 months/year time, when the damage is even more obvious?

I bought my Mazda from a main dealer about 18 months ago, and there was no sign of any damage to the paintwork when I picked it up.
After one week's driving, the bonnet looked like a map of the moon, and there were various scratches on the roof, doors and wings.
It took me four hours to polish the car before I sold it.:(

I know what you are saying but apart from the paint issue the car is fantastic.

mazda's warranty does not cover paintwork defects caused by stonechips so I can see what would happen there.

If I cannot get the dealer or mazda to contribute then I am considering paying for the front end to be repainted with a better top coat and then using the transparent film they use to protect the paint on ferraris etc!

If you do decide to get it resprayed, then try to find someone who will use a 2 pack clear over base finish (before anyone says that they do not exist, they do and you can still get someone to do it), because it is a very hard finish and will look superb.
Because of ecological reasons, water based paint is now used (it still contains chemicals for the hardening process), and they are very soft compared to the paints of old.
The clear film is another thing to consider, but I wonder if it would be as effective as a good 2 pack finish.

would that cost more than a normal spray job ??

Also will the colour match be ok as it has been painted in a different way to the rest of the car

its not illegal to seel cellulose, though many paint supply shops will tell you it is.

2k is available, JAWEL sell the whole veriety 1k 2k, urethan, acrylic, cellulose, water etc.

in my opinion water based is expensive compared with urethane basecoat, and 2k laquer hardner activator and thinners.

water based gave me a huge shock when i first used it (and will never use again) as it came out a completly different colour to the car out the gun, then dried to the colour it was suppose to be, very unnatural for me to see this and thought a whole day of reprep and barcoat was in order but as it happened it was a good match just not good match wet.

when you paint a front end being metallic its blended into the doors and roof pillars. unfortunately if water based is on the car and you use a chemical base coat such as urethane they will have a reaction, so talk in depth with a professional before you go ahead with anything. when 2k is applied its hard as nails, you wont need any silly coatings, after so many years these things start to peel off and look like laquer failure.
