Maybe they just aren't mature enough, it's a young age and kids can vary widely in their first year at school.
My eldest was kept back. He had to repeat his first year at primary school.
It never entered my head to consider others may have attached any sort of stigma to this.
My only concern was from a friendship angle, he had made friends in class who he wasn't going to be with any more and I worried how he would settle. My concern was unfounded, kids of that age adapt better than they get credit for sometimes.Herman - MP for all!0 -
When was that aliasojo?
I asked for my eldest to be kept back but was told no. He was statemented for special needs and he didn't go to nursery until he was 4, so he had 2 terms in nursery and 1 term in reception, then straight into year 1. He's a July birthday. I'd have taken the opportunity to keep him back a year at any point, even now that he's left school I'd prefer for him to repeat year 11 than go straight into 6th form.
My 6 year old would also benefit from being kept back, in my opinion. His is also a July birthday.52% tight0 -
Many years ago now, eldest is 29.
No idea if the same processes apply in today's primary schools or not, I was just commenting from a 'feelings' pov in reply to LE's comments about parents and possible stigma.Herman - MP for all!0 -

Its done and dusted but just wanted to add that i enquired about my child starting school later as my child will still be four when reception ends and was told that i didnt have to by law, send my child till the age of five but that it would be year 1 and not reception that my child would start in.
I would have prefered that my child start school aged 5 not barely 4.0 -
I considered that for my eldest but school and nursery both told me that they thought he'd be better off with some time in the reception class rather than going straight into year 1.52% tight0

In my mind there was never any doubt, yes I'd prefer him to start at 5, but no way is he missing out on reception.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Its only a reception report not exactly a big deal. The other parent might also not be happy that you have their report but hey its an error. I suspect you might just feel embarassed or something if its not that good ? ! I dont see any issue at all here. Its just a mistake what harm could it possibly cause? Seems like you just enjoy complaining.0

Formal learning starts in yr 1 whereas Reception is a mix of playing and learning. I found that more playing had been put into place between each of my 2 starting (3 year gap) or as my eldest put it 'when I was in Reception they used to make me do hard work, all she does (his sister) is play'.0

Sometimes you need other peoples perspective to see that you may be over reacting just a little!!!!
I think your comment about the OP 'enjoying complaining' is unfair.0
