I haven't managed to do the breakfast bake yet but will do it this afternoon for after school snack. The recipe said you could eat it all week for breakfast so that tupperware box will come in handy.

Possession, I'm really getting to grips with slow cooking now and I'm amazed at how knowledgeable the Americans seem to be about crockpot cooking. I can't believe the things they make in them! This is the blog that bacon and tatty meal is from http://momswithcrockpots.com/ it looks like a great resource. ;)

I've got my crockpot wrapped in tin foil according to this recipe. I wonder if that's to help the potatoes along because I've never been that successful cooking potatoes in the SC. I am worried as the only liquid in the recipe is a dot of butter. We'll see. Can but try. If not, i'll stick it in the oven for 45 mins tonight.

Also noted the meatloaf pigs in blankets ;)

Oh Sheila :( It's just not fair in your house at the moment. I hope to goodness your little doggy is ok because you really don't need any more upset. Is today the start of your respite too? I really feel for you. xx

Morning all - well, it's brightened up since first thing.

Waiting for carpet people to arrive to lay new carpet then we is done for a bit. (till i see the next room that needs doing! - actually I hate the disruption of decorating so we put it off as long as possible). Am working at home - volunteered to do marking  I must have gone mad! SO will bribe myself with chores, mark a piece - hang washing out, mark another - load dishwasher etc. It's the only way I can get through it.

OH out tonight so its make do and mend tea. Actually I think the kids will have jacket spuds and something and i'll have freezer surprise! Something good for my waistline anyhow. I intend to go out for a brisk walk in the sunshine to earn a treat at the weekend! But only when these dratted carpet people arrive - I think i'll put the kettle on, that'll drag them here! :D

I dont have carpets anymore, gave up cos I love cream and no way can ever keep them nice, so its all wood here......Cant have rugs cos hubby cant walk properly and easy to trip on........

Its lovely though when you just get the carpet laid and put your stuff back in the room , oh that lovely clean feeling, and you feel so excited and contented..............Dont forget to polish all the furniture before you put it back:eek:, and clean the windows too........oh and you might as well wash the skirting boards while your at it......sheila

  • It is so dark and wet here, its windy and raining quite heavy.

I have been to the Drs about my knee its still very sore and not getting any better. He said my xrays are back and they show I have osteoartritis in my right knee. He also says the cold and wet can affect it. So I will have to read up on that as I dont know much about it.

I have been looking on Pinerest and found lots of nice frugal gifts to make for Christmas.

Fuddle Glad to see your on the mend
Kitcat Hope your feeling alittle better

Fingers crossed for you Sheila, hope she's OK.
Fuddle have you seen the blog of the woman who cooked a different meal every day for a year in her crockpot?
    http://crockpot365.blogspot.co.uk/
It's an interesting read although I have to admit I only fancy trying about a quarter of the things she cooked, if that. My biggest problem with American recipes in general is they greatly rely on ready-made ingredients, eg box cake mixes, ranch dressing, cool whip etc.

Sunshine I had bad osteoarthritis in both knees (I say 'had' because they have both been replaced and I am now a bionic woman) and the cold and wet definitely affected them. I took glucosamine and chondroitin, TBH it didn't do much good but that's because I had no cartilage left at all in one knee so nothing was going to help. Now I'm wondering whether getting my vitamin D levels up would have helped at all.

Possession My knee has been very stiff for awhile and sore but I just though that as I was getting older thats how it goes, but since my fall its been so painful so now I know why.
My Dr has suggested that I start having steroid injection he told me to think about it. I have had a couple in my shoulder and they didnt do much. Did you have any in your knees and what did you think of them.

  • Sorry everyone not read since I posted so I promise to at least catch up from there today. Thank you though for all the help you have sent to my daughter.

Daughter discharged herself on Monday night as it was found she has bleeding in her stomach, caused they think from her Epilepsy meds. They wanted her to stay in for more tests but as she felt they found the cause she decided home was best and although they tried hard to get her to stay they eventually agreed on the understanding she goes back for camera down and other tests and to go straight back if she gets worse again. There is still bleeding as she still has to take the meds until she can see her specialist and hopefully be given new meds as without any she would have fits all the time. She is determined to keep taking them as she was only given the all clear to drive last year and is frightened she has a fit and is told she cannot drive, not that she is in any fit state to get out of bed never mind drive at moment. Her husband has taken week off to look after her, no one can visit her as she refuses to let anyone except husband and her daughter to see her when she is ill as she hates 'fuss'.

Just after I posted here my son in Melbourne phoned to tell me he had just seen a specialist, as he has been having almost constant sinus infections this year and he has to go into hospital next week to have some rather major surgery on nose, sinus cavity and throat. Tests have shown growths and malformation - which he didn't have before as he has had these tests before as past 10 years slowly has been getting more and more infections. He hasn't got a date yet for op next week so waiting to hear and I will do what I have done each time has had ops since being there - others have been on knee - I phone him before he goes down and chat to him then one of the staff send a text from his phone when he is on his way back to his room and I phone and nurse gives him phone so I can speak to him as soon as he is back then I let him rest, best I can do as going over there not an option, unfortunately.

Got to start doing the lottery 'me thinks'.:)

I needed a lamp for my sitting room as I don't like over head lights and found a mother and child lamp in B&M for £12.99 in chrome finish. Child lamp can be moved up and down the main pole and has adjustable arm so can place it where its needed. Not the most beautiful as wires from child lamp and switchs are on view but for the price its great value. The uplighter lights the room very well and base is far smaller than most floor lamps, but heavy so it doesn't fall over at slightest touch.

I hope to get chimney swept and checked in here in a few weeks but until then am burning candles in fireplace. The spark guard I bought last year when L*d* had them in for £16 and is very heavy, I need it to keep dogs tails safe from the candle flames:D - I was using it to disguise the horrible gas fire in living room but OH not bothered as he has put a chest of drawers in front of it.

and dogs are quite happy snuggling on the couch

Right will go back the 10 or so pages since I posted on Monday and catch up

Hugs and Love to all xxxx

I didn't have a steroid injection, as I didn't go to the doctor for years and by the time I did it was too late really. I had the fluid drained from one knee by the GP but it turned out I had a Baker's Cyst (commonly misdiagnosed as DVT) so the fluid would have come back anyway. I believe the steroid injections can be hit and miss as you have found.

Horrible awful day here, dark and icy pelting rain. Feel so sorry for folk who have to save on heating costs, it's going to be a long hard winter for them. Bloody disgrace in this day & age.
Heard an interesting thing yesterday from the HA electrician who came to fix the smoke alarm.. there's one area in our local town (20 miles away) that was quite bad, nice big 4 bedroom flats but full of students and druggies. Well the electrician said he used to hate being called out there because of their attitude etc. Now he says it's full of Polish people, the houses are kept nice, the streets are clean and full of nice kids playing & people washing their cars - and some of the bigger fiercer Poles sorted out the druggies who hung around the school and shops. Isn't that nice to hear? ;)
Thanks re help with liver - its lamb liver so I'll just flour and fry it with bacon and saus, and have it today with mash & veg.

I must stop looking at the food on Pinterest.

Still feel poorly with upset tum.

PAH, your pics are gorgeous, the dogs look so lovely. Glad your DD knows the reason behind the bleeding, just hope they can sort out her meds now. My DD has epilepsy and I know how worrying it can be if meds are stopped.

Shegar, hope your pooch will be alright. Mine is 12 and everytime she is poorly I panic, and worry it's a secondary cancer. At the moment she's on steroids which seem to be causing her to pant constantly. Been to the vets twice in less than a week!
