What blinkin barmy prices!
Just put the stew back on the stove to do the dumplings - did it this morning and put it in the "hay" box and the liquid was still at 76 degrees - well above what it needs to be for food safety - it's been in for 7 hours! Meat all lovely and tender and very little gas used to cook it.
Sadly my box isn't big enough for my huge pan so will have to do the big lot tomorrow in the usual manner - making a big batch of meat and tattie pie filling for the wedding evening do then I'm going to freeze it so I'm all prepared. I will only need to do the cheese and onion pies the night before.0 -
Re hoover repair, Duck tape, the stickiest and NOT cheapest you can find. Also known as bodge tape in our house, we have mended motor bikes with it and cable ties, stunning stuff. Wrap it round starting about 1width above injury and going 1width below injury overlapping by 1/3 of width on each rotation.
If that makes sense I am amazed.
I've lived with technically minded men all my life, so it makes perfect sense to me - I can even see it in my mind's eye. How sad is that?! :rotfl:

lilmisskitcat, that's fab news. we're waiting for similar info, hope the outcome is good!
oooooh, yukhope all of you poorly people are starting to feel better.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the info on vitD, i'll be having a proper look at that, hoping that it may help DH who has arthritis in his hips. in fact I'll get mum to have a look for some next time she's in costco.
also, apologies for falling behind and not posting very often.
We've started to put the heating on now, for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening for when the girls get out of the bath. no baths for them tonight though, we only do it every other night (or so) They're already curled up on the sofa in their jimjams and dressing gowns having had tea and done homework.
My kitchen and living room are tidy which are my main jobs every night to stop DH whinging that the house is a state.
lunch boxes already packed and in the fridge for tomorrow and uniforms already ironed, and a big pile of veg chopped and thrown in the sc with some barley ready to be switched on in the morning for soup for tomorrows tea.. wish I could be this organised every night.:j
As soon as my girlies are in bed i'll be getting the sewing machine out and attempting two 'princess leia' type gowns for them for school on friday. Their headteacher is a massive star wars fan and as a surprise for him for his birthday all the kids have been asked to go to school dressed as a starwars character.
i reckon my two would look good as ewoks.
a lot of parents have said not a chance because they need to get outfits for halloween too and some daft beggars have gone out and spent a fortune. I have some white fabric that i baggsed from freecycle and i know what i want them to look like, not sure how they'll turn out though!!
If they look ok the next job will be two 'morticia' dresses for halloween.
must get on with my rag rug as well, my feet were freezing while i was in the kitchen this eve.freecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -
Evening all, as part of Stoptober I've decided to try and use up some of the meat I've accumulated via the YS route. On Sunday I used 1lb of Minced Beef and 1lb of sausagemeat to make a meatloaf (In fact I split the mix in two and made 2 x 4 portion sized ones)
Sunday Lunch - Meatloaf with mashed potatoes, gravy, steamed broccoli, carrots, green beans and courgettes.
Sunday Supper - Meatloaf and Homemade Chutney Sandwiches.
Monday Lunch - Cold Sliced Meatloaf with Jacket Sweet Potatoes and Peas.
Tuesday Lunch - Cold sliced Meatloaf and coleslaw sandwiches.
Tuesday Supper - Shepherds Pie (Made with half of remaining meatloaf, some veg and gravy), Steamed mixed veg.
Wednesday Supper - Spaghetti with Meatloaf based Bolognese Sauce, Parmesan Cheese and Crusty Bread.
Thursday Supper - Homemade Pizza topped with the rest of the Bolognese before baking.
I love joined up meals - I love Stoptober!!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
I thought Stoptober was for quitting smoking. Must go investigate now, I'm intrigued. I don't smoke by the way, never even tried it. I decided when I was just a kid that I didn't like coming downstairs to the smell and wouldn't go anywhere near them.
I digress!
I've never made or tried a meat loaf Lyn... again, I'm intrigued. Off I go to investigate in a minute.
I'm having another night of peace and quiet in my bedroom ( I quite like it) in a bid to get better and get to work tomorrow.
And I have news. The LL is having someone fix my toilet on Friday. I'm over the moon!0 -
FUDDLE - Stoptober is the idea of Frugal Queen from the Frugal in Cornwall Website. Worth a look and also the archive is full of really good ideas. It's an interesting read. The meatloaf is easy peasy basically just:-
1 lb Mince
1 lb Sausagemeat
1 packet sage and onion stuffing
2 eggs
2 tablespoons Horseradish sauce
2 tablespoons Dry Mustard Powder
1 chopped onion
1 chopped pepper ,any colour will do.
some worcester sauce, to your taste
stock cubes, any but I use oxo.
Put everything in a BIG bowl and squish it all together with your hands until it is all really well mixed together. Put in 2 x halves made into loaf shapes on a greased baking tray and cook for about an hour at 200 deg C/ Fan 180 deg c.
You can add in any other flavourings you like, mixed herbs, chutney, garlic, chopped olives, sundried tomatoes etc anything really. Nothing to it and we like it hot or cold or made into other things too.
Hope you are all feeling better, Alfie too, Cheers Lyn xxx.
Well done that LL, one less hassle for FUDDLE, Hooray!!!!!0 -

Great news on the toilet fix Fuddle, and great news on the job front Lilmisskitkat!
The slow cooker pasta-y experiment was definitely a success and I'll be making it again. Around lunchtime I put chicken pieces, chopped onion, chicken bouillon, garlic and half a pack of cream cheese in the slow cooker. When we got back in I added the pasta. I needed to add more liquid as the pasta obviously absorbs it, but it cooked in about half an hour and was delicious. And very easy!0 -
What's bouillon Possession? Is it a Pinterest recipe? Can you link it if so? Edit again, forgot my manners... thank you lol
Lyn I'm going to try meatloaf, thank you.
