Hugs and prayers to all who need them and good wishes to all who don't xxxxxx Glad to say the sun is now out after four days of non stop thunderstorms. It even got the point where we had both got used to the noise and slept all the way through it...although at 6am this morning I woke up thinking I could hear a waterfall and when I went to look it was the rain going down the steps outside!

By nine it had stopped raining so we drove over to the gym. I help out there one morning a week in return for both our memberships. My OH has three slipped discs he did in the Navy years ago and has now been told that he needs to exercise carefully so that he can strengthen his core...stomach, back and all supporting muscles.

Called at the bank on the way home only to find that the cheque we paid in on 20th September has not cleared yet....what do they do with them for all that time? So have to wait till Friday, if they are not on strike.

I also called at the British imports as my OH wanted to see if they had cough sweets (he is very partial to a Fisherman's Friend....personally I detest them and can't stand the smell of them even from a distance..). But I am glad I went as I got three bags of Dove's farm gluten free brown bread mix all reduced!! He had to make do with a bag of toffees as there were no cough sweets to be seen thanks to the cough everyone has.

Came home and put the washer on as the sun was now up and making us both feel too hot again. The breadmaker went on when I remembered where I had put the sunflower seeds I bought recently. I used to get a huge bag of mixed seeds on Pocklington market for just one pound...wish we could get them here, I love poppy seeds on bread.

Then I decided to do some baking, so made some coffee flavour cup cakes and lemon, banana and clove muffins. OH came back in to remark that something amazing was being cooked nearby, then realised it was our kitchen LOL . I am going to put buttercream on the coffee ones and lemon icing on the others, then they are going into the freezer.

The sun is still shining and the wind is getting up so will hopefully blow away all the flaming thunderstorms. It felt like we needed to start building an ark. It's still very warm for the time of year and the Greeks are calling it dangerous weather because of all the germs that are thriving in it. They also call the weather we get in April dangerous, as it suddenly gets warmer and people start stripping off the layers of clothes they have had on all winter.

They are great believers in getting lots of fresh air though, when its really cold in the winter with the sun out they fling open all the windows and hang the bedding out of the window to air. They go out to enjoy the fresh air and sun but as soon as the sun goes down you have to close the windows as they all light the olive wood fires. It smells like incense when its burning. Lovely.

I do that too Tonsils - house faces south so when the shines, like today, all windows are opened and I enjoy the fresh air. But as soon as the sun vanishes behind the hill you have to be quick and run and close them all :)
Fuddle I have to say your doc sounds odd. I never heard of cold water being recommended when somebody had bronchitis - how on earth would that thin phlegm? It goes down yur gullet into the stomach. I would drink hot lemon or mint or green tea meself pet xx

    Fuddle have a look here:

particularly annoying given how much I've spent on cough medicine over the last year.
  • FUDDLE - If you want to see the woodstove that I covet and is on the top of my hit list should I ever become rich google ESSE IRONHEART, I drool over them - one day perhaps................. Cheers Lyn xxx.

    Afternoon All!

PAH - wishing your DD well, I hope they find out what is wrong soon. And hope your new arrangement works well, must be better than how it was.

Fuddle - sorry you are poorly. Yes Vics in a bowl of hot water will help. And Lemon and Honey in hot water. Nice to have even if you are not ill!

Make sure poor doogy is keeping down water - this is more important than food. We have had similar probs with cat, and vet was much more concerned about the chance of dehydration. Cat ended up having water pumped in under his skin, most expensive drink ever .

Back from hols which were generally wet. Oh well, Cornwall in Oct, we did not expect much else. A nice break though.

Very bleurgh, finding doing the most basic things a chore, nothing wrong, just bleurgh.

ETA - lappy keyboard started working again all on it's own  No idea what was wrong. Just a few letters I have to use the left shift button for caps (how does that work ???) At least I don't need usb keyboard which was ok but kept being unrecognised so was plugging in and out all the time :rotfl:

Ah, you see, a while ago a few of us discussed our penchant for a fisherman's friend ;):rotfl: do you want a parcel of them sent? PM if so - it would be my pleasure.

my DD drinks what she calls "Gollum Juice" for her colds and sore throats - lemon tea with sugar and honey. Sweet as anything but she sips on it throughout the day - It starts off hot but will obviously cool down. I quite like a hot "toddy" ish of warm milk, sugar and whisky. sleep like a top and feel better for it - wouldn't dream of it when I'm well though, strangely.

Mrs Chip - post holiday blues? Poor you

Well "Wally" the trolley has been pur- chased and used. I must learn not to run over my own feet and unbalance it though - doesn't do much for Parisienne chic that way. I used the "man pushing a pram" tactic - kind of pretending it wasn't there. Made it damn sight easier to bring home the goods though. I could clean up in Home bargains and benefit from the monday fruit and veg stall, banana bread will be baked tonight as I got "a bowl of bananas a peownd" from Mr Market. 3 pomegranates a "peownd" too, so I will challenge myself to one later.

I gotta go and clean up some paintwork before the new carpet arrives on wednesday.... <<sigh>>
I wanna be in the room where it happens

I have a gorgeous wicker basket in my porch that MIL gave me. It houses the shoes. What a waste huh?!

My dream kitchen does not include expensive fitted cupboards anymore but the stove, belfast sink, welsh dresser and pantry will no doubt break the bank.

MrsC I will do, he's not drank much at all so will keep an eye on him. He's eaten his scrambled egg and been a minx so hopefully he's feeling better.

    I'm blergh too.

Possession I have umpteen different cough mixtures in my cupboard for my winter prep. I feel daft now.

I'm feeling yuk too, had a mad dash to the vets this morning with poorly pooch (another £39), as she was constantly panting, she'd been put on steroids last week, but even so didn't connect the dots, as our last pooch had heart problems and panting was one of the signs. Anyway, she took a treat from the vet, almost including his fingers, so she was still happy to eat. Anyway, he said it was the steroids, too late I remembered the other vet saying cut down to half if she shows side effects!

I have an upset stomach, just a lot of pain and general blahness.

PAH, I hope your DD finds out what is wrong and positive thoughts to her, and also to you. I will write soon for a chat. xxxx

LOL Fuddle you feel daft?! I've been taking them on and off for the last year without them making a blind bit of difference!
