Ds14 is off on Thursday and really wanted to go have had to say no, the idea of the crowds puts me off and would freak DS out anyway

Thanks for the posts. :T I honestly didn't realise it was part of a nationwide marketing campaign but of course I should have realised - these things always are. Feel a bit silly now. :o I do sometimes drift about in a bubble - I'm a strange mix of sensible and scatty (where is the smilie for that?!)

I can't bear crowds (get a bit freaked out myself tbh) so its not worth the chance of a free breakie and I wouldn't get to look properly. Think I just need an excuse to do something out of my usual routines so I've decided to go to the next town (posher than ours, well that's not hard :rotfl:) and check out the charity shops there. I really need a winter's coat & more jeans as struggle to get my few pairs dry in the winter so will go and see if I can nab a bargain before trying the high street. The £5 off voucher lasts a couple more weeks so might go to Ikea another quieter day if I have the time and inclination - actually might invite a friend who doesn't drive (and can't do Thursdays) to get my petrol's worth and catch up with her.

Just went to log on for a quick OS fix on my lappy before lights out and it won't even come on. (using DH's old PC) I know the problem- need a new battery. I've been making do for a while by just plugging in whilst using in but seems my luck's run out so will order a new one tomorrow. I've seen a good deal and not as expensive as I thought. Had to replace the freeview box and lots of other odds and ends and still need to buy lots more stuff this month (mostly needs, rest very useful wants!) Luckily kept non essential spends to a bare minimum last month so should be just about ok this month now we need to spend more. November to at least Feb will be particularly trying financially as its first DS2 birthday, then obviously Xmas, then DH & I's birthdays and in between all the car stuff like insurance & the dreaded MOT. Roll on spring!

trying to keep my eyes open long enough to read rest of thread and then off to bed, very tired today

Try to make this quick as I really need my bed!

Caught up with posts and all I can remember is rice pudding and terracotta dishes!!

Re: rice puds. Ambrosia tins were half price, 47p I think in Mr Ts the other day if anyone likes it - NOT for those with the massive stockpiles but those of us who have a more modest 6 tins in out store cupboard :D

Sorry no new suggestions Byatt on cleaning the terracotta but if you can sort them out, would you have room to store them in a less damp room and bring them into kitchen on an as and when needed basis or is that just a crazy, crazy idea? :D

Good luck with the appointment tomorrow Ginny. Sorry I have no advice to offer as have no experience but in similar cases it always seems to work better to exaggerate than underplay things.

I think our computing equipment is cursed, DH's PC is working fine but making some very strange noises. Mmmm. Think it's telling me to turn it off as it's tired too

until tomorrow, stay warm and snug tonight

Thats exactly why I'm narked at myself Shegar. I'm down and what the heck have I got to be down about?!

Life is what you make of it and that is why I'm determined to kick this negative thinking blip out of my life.

There's a lot to be said for just an hour out of your day too, volunteering here or there. I only work for an hour and a half but it breaks my day up brilliantly. Now the girls are both at school I need a purpose every day. It's good to do something, even better if that something is doing good ;)

Occasionally I allow myself the luxury of one whole 'in a dark mood, CBA, don't even speak to me' day.

But it's like chocolate, sinful at the time, addictive and has to be rationed.
  • Fuddle It might be worth waiting to join the union until you get to know the union reps, I was with Unison, I had a problem at work & spoke to my rep, she explained that she was unable to help as it wasn't within the union remit. I found out later that she should have helped, but was too scared to take on the workplace bully! I had to handle it on my own. Also the monthy payment went from £5ish to £9ish, too much on my poor salary I'm afraid.

  • BYATT - In the deep and vague recesses of what passes for my brain I have a vague recollection of reading that in times past pottery/terracotta was washed and then left in the area of the hearth overnight to really dry off. If you get the woodburner running this year that might be something to try, not actually on the stove but on the hearth and let the residual heat finish the drying process. It might be no use at all, but it won't cost you anything and just might work, Cheers Lyn xxx.

I, too, read everything, but don't often get chance to post, or am unable to think of clever or intelligent replies most of the time - I'm here in spirit if you like! :rotfl:

I've noticed the food prices near me going up, all ranges at SM, local butcher, think the trickle has begun now. SM brand fig rolls (kids love and I can't make) gone up from 45 pence to 50 pence literally overnight, more than 10% rise, and lots of other stuff gone up this week by 5-10%, big jumps!

Finally got to see dr re feeling low/ill/depressed/whatever it is, didn't have long, but being sent for blood tests first to rule in or out anything physical, like anaemia/thyroid problems, etc. Didn't say half of what I wanted or should have, but at least it's a start. Thanks to those who said I should go when I moaned weeks ago. :D

Fuddle - I've been in unison for over 10 years in various jobs, sometimes as much use a chocolate teapot, but everyone I worked with was/is in, I work very part time, so my subs very little, about £2.50-3 a month. Better in than out, as my dad used to say, never know when you'll need help. Also member perks not bad, they do free wills for you and partner (we're going to do this), cheaper insurance like someone else said, etc. HTH.

  • Where is Grey Queen when you need her!

I've got a slug invasion in my shower room of all places.

Fully tiled, no outside access and yet slugs every day.

I have got no idea where they are coming from unless it's up the plug.

But I know where they go......

That solves a minor mystery for me - last week we went to Costco and Ikea is next door. It was jammed solid right out of the car park, gridlock. i thought maybe a sale but now realise it was the free breakfast thing. God there is noWAY I'd join in that scrum just for a microwaved bit of bacon!
Feeling a wee bit more human last 2 days, still wobbly as hell first thing but at least my head & hands are working ok. Headache has gone - after being constant for 3 weeks . Hair still falling out but I stopped worrying about it, it will stop when it stops. Got hosp on 29th who will be every bit as useless as the doc was... according to him I'm amazingly healthy & perfect in every way.
Meanwhile I'm sticking to a very OS cooking and eating plan, and cutting out sugar.
    NO SWEETIES! :eek::eek::eek:
