Kidcat you should never hold back your feelings - go on tell us how you really feel :rotfl: Damned man is making lives a misery bet they arent cutting back in his house, heating off, sockets off, pinching pennies till they scream. I think I may be allergic to the government, well some things making me sick to the stomach.

Oh dear Fu back away from the hole....

On a brighter note have someone from social services coming tomorrow to see what they can do for us???? ie tell me theres nothing they can do for us :o Well it will be an interesting change of routine. Not seen hide nor hair of them for 2 years.

Can anyone suggest why my baked potatoes come out of the freezer full of water - you can actually squeeze them out like a sponge

Ginny - dont let them fob you off, if they cannot actually provide physical assistance ask for direct payments, you can then use them to hire the help you need, whether thats someone to iron for you, clean for you allowing you time to care for your OH or someone to do the caring for you. Be firm you need help, you are entitled to help and they are supposed to be there to help you.

Ginnyknit the potatoes will be full of water when you defrost them. I find they are fine if you put them in the oven or other appliance frozen they cook in less time and they are fine.

I bake mine then half them and mash the potato with butter etc and put the mash back in the skins, open freeze them then bag them. I just get out what I need and put them in the remoska to re heat and melt the cheese if I put it on.

Thanks Grandma will try them again, as its really handy having them readu instead of lingering in the veg basket. Obviously I hate waste (as we all do on MSE)and veg seems to go off really fast now.

thanks for the help from both of you x

    This bit:
"This Wednesday I'm also going to a meeting of the IMF. Don't worry: because of the resolve of the British people, I go representing a country that is seen as part of the solution, not part of the problem. That is only because of the credibility our plans have earned."

To me that is 3 sentences of utter rot. Resolve of the British people? It's nowt to do with the British people's resolve and everything to do with the credibility of their plans.... well done you lads, good plan there. Yes, you stick to your guns, ignore every bit of professional advice given to you since you revealed your jolly good plans years ago and keep your defiant stubborn streak even in the midst of a - growth forecast. Golly good old boy.

Obviously our government think they know better than the IMF, who warned them that they should change course if there was a lower than expected growth.

Cameron thinks his austerity measures are solid but wants to invest in business in the UK. Am I missing something here? If no one has anything to spend buying things from businesses or paying for business services - how is that going to work?

Why can't they loosen the austerity belt? Will it mean more borrowing?

Ginny - if you are caring solo for your OH you are entitled to some help, your council should provide it, however most councils do not have the ability to do that any more so they pay so many hours a week for you to buy the services, but you can only access that if social services have assessed you and agree that your OH requires a level of care. As they are out anyway its an ideal time to look into it and have them start the ball rolling for you.

We are supposed to apply for DS8, apparently we could acess 8 hours a week - personally I would hire someone to clean, freeing me up to do more stuff with DS outside the house. But I havent had the time to sit down and get organised - must do it though. Good luck. :)

ginnyknit I am surprised you are not getting a direct payment already. I looked after a man with ms and he gets direct payment so they can pay for carers and I am sure other conditions qualify.

This is in the archives check it all out before they come. Make sure you lay it on with a trowel about your needs as well as dh.

Quite possibly, however it must be pointed out that according to an article recently I seem to think borrowing is at an all time high anyway. Austerity cuts in this fashion were doomed to fail, its simple economics, if you cut peoples incomes they spend less, if they spend less business has less income, some business' close. People become unemployed, said people spend less, business receives less and so on. BUt also as people lose jobs benefit expenditure increases. Its a spiral that could never work, especially as a major part of the cuts meant that local govts also had to slash staff.

Its better to spend an amount invest wisely and carefully, providing very small amounts of growth, and keep people in employment. You then receive revenue in taxes, VAT etc and you are not increasing the benefit claimants.

Its the old Conservative ideal - the lady is not for turning! Its an arrogance that they can never be wrong that really gets me.
