Thanks for the link Mar.
To me that is 3 sentences of utter rot. Resolve of the British people? It's nowt to do with the British people's resolve and everything to do with the credibility of their plans.... well done you lads, good plan there. Yes, you stick to your guns, ignore every bit of professional advice given to you since you revealed your jolly good plans years ago and keep your defiant stubborn streak even in the midst of a - growth forecast. Golly good old boy.
Obviously our government think they know better than the IMF, who warned them that they should change course if there was a lower than expected growth.
Cameron thinks his austerity measures are solid but wants to invest in business in the UK. Am I missing something here? If no one has anything to spend buying things from businesses or paying for business services - how is that going to work?
Why can't they loosen the austerity belt? Will it mean more borrowing?
That's about the size of it and it won't just be those receiving help from the state(The unemployed/ill/carers etc...)
Many will be hit and I can see nothing that makes me feel positive about the future. If you can get joy out of simple things and have loved ones around you get your pleasure from them.
Sadly a phone-in on the radio proved today how hard people are becoming and losing their compassion for others, thankfully some still exist. Once we become divided we are lost."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Quite possibly, however it must be pointed out that according to an article recently I seem to think borrowing is at an all time high anyway. Austerity cuts in this fashion were doomed to fail, its simple economics, if you cut peoples incomes they spend less, if they spend less business has less income, some business' close. People become unemployed, said people spend less, business receives less and so on. BUt also as people lose jobs benefit expenditure increases. Its a spiral that could never work, especially as a major part of the cuts meant that local govts also had to slash staff.
Its better to spend an amount invest wisely and carefully, providing very small amounts of growth, and keep people in employment. You then receive revenue in taxes, VAT etc and you are not increasing the benefit claimants.
Its the old Conservative ideal - the lady is not for turning! Its an arrogance that they can never be wrong that really gets me.
Another good post, borrowing is up but is played down and denied and yesterday it came out on the radio that it's been that way for the last five months(more than the previous year)but the MP who was interviewed kept saying judge us at the end of the financial year not now!
I had a long chat with a young guy who is a volunteer in a charity shop on town and he sees things not improving and thinks we could be this way for the next ten years. And he has seen the amount of people using the CS increase greatly.
And though I welcome Aldi's coming here I see that as proof how bad things are and that they see my town as needing them and that they can make a profit off the back of the poor. After all they've taken long enough to come here...
When some of the other shops closed or when the newer part of the town was built a few years ago many wanted Aldi's to come here. We got Tesco's instead and the other SM on the town closed. So if it had not been for a local freezer shop keeping prices down you had to go off town to find "Real" bargains..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. If I could knit, I think my life would be very simple like many...
Enough money to pay the utility bills, stay warm, eat reasonably well, keep a roof over my head and wish that I had some loved ones in my life or could accept the situation that I am in and realise how lucky I have been. Be able to stay on the internet and afford the repairs to the PC when they happen. Perhaps afford the odd treat out(perhaps to a theatre or to the countryside)or if not that an buy an odd CD.
But even then the important things are in red and many have to do with much less than what is on my list. I can always put a radio on.
I don't like the nasty things many of us have/will face but life isn't smooth as we would like and you do appreciate that little things mean so much more, a moonlit sky, a flower, the smile of a child, a cuddle, a tender kiss...and many more...all free...
Oh cmon , if you could knit youd be okay.??, if you cant knit then why not try, or try something different, lifes what YOU MAKE IT..........Make it ok...
If you dont help yourself then no other !!!!!! will I can assure you.........
Youve got a roof over your head, no one else to worry about, you can walk and you have 2 arms and hands....
What about the people who are totally disabled, no one goes to see them ,no family....Your able to get out and about to make friends, volunteer at CS etc etc,or help the homeless, you are quite able than a lot of people are, I do sympathise when we lose people in life but you kinda have to" pick yourself dust yourself down and start all over again".......As the saying goes .......
Dont look at what you havnt got, look at what you have got, sorry to sound harsh, but if youd like to live in my shoes right now or some other members on here ,I dont think you would last the week out..........0 -

I agree with everything you say Shegar and that's what keeps me going, it comes in waves...and I think I am improving as time goes by but I have done the caring quite a few times in my life...I cared for Mum and that was 24/7 and years ago I did the same for my Dad and I have also when it was easier to get around voluntary work in a hospital which I did for approx 15 years...
I give myself a kick up the behind quite often. And I do look at what the rest of you are doing and appreciate how hard things are for others.
You are not being harsh either...You have to carry on, you can't reverse some things. I am a bit brighter already...today has been one of my better days...and I am not right down in the dumps
I've even become more interested in cooking something for myself so that's a good sign."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Thats exactly why I'm narked at myself Shegar. I'm down and what the heck have I got to be down about?!
Life is what you make of it and that is why I'm determined to kick this negative thinking blip out of my life.
There's a lot to be said for just an hour out of your day too, volunteering here or there. I only work for an hour and a half but it breaks my day up brilliantly. Now the girls are both at school I need a purpose every day. It's good to do something, even better if that something is doing good0 -

That is so true Fuddle, sometimes you can feel down and not see a reason. Could be a chemical imbalence or some people have that SAD condition."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

This is in the archives check it all out before they come. Make sure you lay it on with a trowel about your needs as well as dh.
I agree with what the other posters also said, regarding DP........
We get that as well now, I didnt for the first 2 yrs of the stroke because I simply didnt know, my SW started the ball rolling......
She got me the carer in to do the morning showering, which is such a great help....
And also they give me 1 weeks respite every 4 because of his substantial needs, so I really look forward to a week on my own , thats when I get my hair done etc, cos I cant normally leave him on his own, so that gives me time to do what I need to do, like shopping, etc.........
I have to keep receipts for my expenditure, but thats easy book keeping, he also goes to "Headway" twice a week, which gets paid for out of DP...........Ive got a cleaning job to help out with the fuel bills cos he as to have the heating on so much, so I work on the day he go to headway.........
So I say yes Ginny if you can get some help go for it......If it wasnt for DP , I wouldnt be able to keep him at home, cos it wears me out looking after him and all that go with being disabled.....Good luck...0 -
Can anyone tell me why mould appears on the unglazed part of my terracotta dishes, apart from the obvious, that is kitchen is very damp (mould grows overnight to penicilin proportions). Went away for a week (working) and came back to the monster of the black lagoon. Should I wrap them up in something or will that make it worse?0

Does anyone know anything about unions? The girls at work have told me I must be in one. They suggested GMB as it's the chapest at £3.50 per month but all I can see is it's £6 per month and Unison is cheaper at £3.50 per month.
Why do I need to be in a union?0 -
unions can be very useful if there are problems at work and sometimes you are covered for legal advice on none work things.0
