  • Truthfully, I'm not. I am in such a rush in the morning I just run out the door and grab something. I think I'll get up half an hour earlier and try omelette this week, thanks. My kids will be happy not having a shouting/late/stressed mummy. I just need to get my a$$ in gear :rotfl:. Christmas is only 13 weeks away and I have a nice dress (too small now) for it already!

The suggestion of a high protein diet is a good one...omelette is good or scrambled eggs..or I have Greek yogurt with fruit and honey which sets me up for the morning. You could also have lean meat to eat or fish. If you are short of time boil some eggs the night before and have them with some toast. You could always buy some protein powder and make a shake with fruit in the blender if you only have three minutes... Make time for yourself. Most women who fail to lose weight fail because they are NOT eating enough!

Eating little and often is more effective than having just one meal. I don't believe in low fat anything as low fat food often contains a lot of sugar and additives to make it taste better. Your immune system and hormones need good oils to work properly.

I help people with nutrition and exercise where I help out and I am qualified to teach weight training (excellent for preventing osteoporosis).

Hope this helps...I will not force a healthy diet or exercise onto anyone but if I can help out I will.

I have to keep my own conditions (Celiac disease and Hashimoto's thyroid under control by being very careful with what I eat...but its really worth the effort. I can't eat any of the Free from foods as they contain soya and I am allergic to it.

That sort of eating makes sense to me - I always crave a bacon butty in the morning and cereal at night, yet everyone thinks I am bonkers.

Yes Molly it was, and its always a disaster :)

Have woken this morning to no rain - hooray, so am racing to get my washing out on the line.
OH has decided to paint the top of the house whilst we have scaffolding up and wants me to go buy specialist paint - he fails to understand that I will be prevented from that by the fact he has dismantled the injector assembly on little car and is using the big car to go buy parts!!! So am sat here with so much stuff to do and cannot do any of it.

Got to face shopping today as well - eurgh, my get up and go has left the building, if anyones sees it racing past them please send it back :)

Wondering if I can persuade everyone that we should eat porridge every night and save my cooking!! :)

DD6 school had harvest yesterday (parents not allowed to attend) and had to take items from a specific list for a food bank, previously it has been take in fruit and veg which sits looking pretty on the church windowsills for the weekend and is then sold off cheap on Monday. Normally there is huge baskets of pretty fruit and veg.
This year I sent DD6 with a carrier bag of stuff for the food bank, tinned salmon, tinned ham, tinned veg, cereal, rice pudding type stuff, I was in school as they were leaving and noticed that alot of kids had nothing at all to take (never known that before), in DD class her bag had been shared out so that at least it looked like something was being taken.

These are not families who cannot afford to give either, if they had been asked for flowers there would have been huge displays, it was simply that they couldnt be bothered as it was a food bank - talk on the yard was very derogatory about it.
I was pleased at this year, previously the waste always infuriated me, but it seems as though next year school will rethink as the show was so poor.

Of course many parents didnt send anything as they forgot - they were not attending (which they are normally able to do) so it didnt matter to them, but its a sad state with such a poor showing.

ETA - Does anyone have a good recipe for cake pops, DD has decided she doesnt want a traditional cake bu would rather have cake pops. :)

:D How bizarre! Redheads are apparently less than 10% of the population and we've got loadsa reddies here.

Someone had a snark the other week by pointing out the the genes which cause redheadedness are recessive and thus we are on our way to extinction.

:p Totally deflated them by pointing out the same is true for blondes................:rotfl:

I will be intruiged when my hair has finished its transition to dazzling white if I will still be a redheaded spirit. Am sooo glad that of a brunette and a reddish-blond parents I inherited the hair colour and not the pale lashes and brows. Thanks, parental units, nice job. Shame about the short-sightedness, but you can't have everything.

Hey, even if you could have everything, you'd only have to dust it.

I have tea, all is well with the world. Did I tell you my new jammies are purple and black? I suspect that might be TMI. So strange to buy something from a proper (i.e. non-charity) shop.

    Oops, cross-posting with Smileyt!

Gradually reading my way through - but another red-head here!

    Hi all,

thank you for the tips on asking for payment...decided I migh ask for a deposit (I used to then changed it)...and the balance due on their return. I must say I understand people waiting to pay because I could just not turn up or wreck the place.

Listened to the news this morning and they were saying women over 50 being unemployed are amongst the hardest hit now. No surprise to me, I could have told them that! Also in Cornwall, for instance, there is only one night doctor on duty for 250,000 people. That the NHS is supposed to be ring fenced but people on the work front are saying differently.

I have sold all my assets, not sure what else to sell and actually get any money. I have a wide screen tv, bought in better days, but nor sure anyone would pay a decent amount for it as prices for second hand are so cheap.

Sold my new car and got a second hand one, which as it turns out has been a false economy. :(

I don't think you can compare poverty with 50 years ago, expectations have risen as well as housing conditions. I have more possessions than my parents and grandparents had, but I am no better off in terms of stress and worry and mental health. The pluses are the NHS, for however long it lasts, but I can see as I get older things will get worse and my pension date may be increased (very likely), there will be no care if I am ill. I am in fact considering my options there because I don't want to end up being cared for by people who don't give a damn.

All I may have left is the oldest profession in the world if worst comes to worst!:o:p:rotfl:;)

When the mines were closed I cried buckets. I'm from South Wales, so know how important the mines and communities were. It seems to me their closure was done out of spite. And extreme short sightedness.

I do agree there are people who abuse the system...I know several (including ex inlaws) who are career layabouts, yet go on cruises, eat out and have brand new cars.

edit, I am having a lovely time at my sitting gig, I have an Aga and chickens...sheer bliss. I'm going to ask the owners if they will adopt me when they come back!

I think I have said before, the only time in my life was not always hungry was when I did low carb. I can honestly say that I never ever got hunger pangs. I wish I could summon up the willpower to do it again, as I felt so much better on it. It is hard when the OH is a bread and potato monster though.

My brother has LC'd for the last three months as his type II was starting to get out of control. His BS is now right down so he has been able to cut his meds, and he has lost lots of weight. He is eating very well, and good healthy balance of leafy green veg and fish/meat.
He has tried to gradually up the carbs but his BS shoots up.

I suggested the diet shift to OH and he was very dismissive, so I might just go it alone. He might change his mind when he sees me tucking into a plate of bacon and egg in the morning :D

Protein and fat are the things that stop you feeling hungry. Carbs, if not eaten in the right ratios with them will tend to make you feel hungry and or sleepy (think post-sandwich lunch slump over desk!)

It is difficult to give advice as some Drs are very wary of LC as they think it is bad because of the high levels of protein and fat eaten. Best advice is to eat a balanced diet, not too many carbs in form of potatoes, bread, pasta or rice, and if he is still hungry up the meat or fish a bit more along with more veg. A small bowl of soup beforehand will help, but no bread with it!

Does the RV like tinned fish and eggs? Both are filling and relatively cheap sources of protein.

Try spreading meals out more - split them into four smaller meals -

Bacon and egg, no toast for breakfast, a tuna salad sandwich (lots of filling, thin bread) for lunch with a small mug of HM soup for lunch, a nice casserole with lots of green veg with a yoghurt with pear or apple for dessert and supper of a small bowl of porridge or cereal.

Nuts are good for snacking, walnuts and brazils especially, but a handful of peanuts will do. Cubes of cheese are also good for hunger pangs.

Some people feel hungry when they are in fact thirsty, so try having a glass of water to see if the pangs go away.

I will try to find my Food doctor man-diet book, there was lots of stuff in there. It's in a box somewhere...

I'm sure 2tonsils will have some good suggestions too!

ETA - not OT I don't think - we all need ideas of how to fill up in hard times, the usual answer is lots of stodge but some people just can't do that!

Had to Google it, from what I can see on her hompage it is going to be a variant of LC, probably nowhere near as restrictive (although I stayed on the first phase of 20 carbs per day for years as it suited me. And she does not agree with counting calories, which is a view I subscribe to.
