apologies. am on my phone so postings are brief. hooray i hear u cry!!

Truthfully, I'm not. I am in such a rush in the morning I just run out the door and grab something. I think I'll get up half an hour earlier and try omelette this week, thanks. My kids will be happy not having a shouting/late/stressed mummy. I just need to get my a$$ in gear :rotfl:. Christmas is only 13 weeks away and I have a nice dress (too small now) for it already!

    Morning All :)

It's winter - I got my knitting out last night and made OH a hat. I only knit in winter, so it's true :D.

I know what you mean Fuddle - I get so cross about how unfair the benefits system is - some families live their whole lives without the thought of working very comfortably and yet there are desperate people who would willingly work but can't seem to live on the poverty line. And those that do what work they can but are limited by disability or the lack of hours are treated like criminals. It's not right but I don't know how it can be fixed.

I remember in the 60's at school being told about how awful conditions were down the mines, and how dangerous the work was. In many ways it is good that those days are gone, it was a terrible job. But when life is harsh it does build a great community spirit and pride and that has been lost too. To take away the work of whole towns and leave nothing behind was an awful thing. And the mines were not closed because they were dangerous or the work was killing, but because of spite. When I think now of the money being creamed off by banking, and the money that can be earned sitting in a swanky office and the Govt. says 'oh if we don't let them have their bonuses there will be no money in the economy' - well they did not say that when the miners asked to keep their jobs and be paid a fair wage for work that was killing them...

PAH, hope you are ok, not seen you here the last couple of days.

    ((hugs))))

I don't know how it happened, but we have got our eating all upside down. We need a protein rich breakfast and a balanced meal midday and a slightly carby but lighter meal in the early evening. We eat all the wrong things at the wrong times.

Egg and bacon is the perfect breakfast (or omelette or fish) and a bowl of cereal the best thing at the end of the day - light enough, enough carbs to keeps your blood sugar up and help make you sleep.

Fitting our food to our lifestyles is what causes a lot of people to gain weight I think.

  • Hear hear Fuddle, we need a safety net for those in genuine need, but too many where I live see no need to work as they can laze around all day & still get paid.

Ditto VJsmum - I do the same, have cereal every morning, and we eat late in the day normally. I know it's not the best thing to do but I still do it :o.

Brilliant post Mrs Chip - agree totally. We are letting things pile up against us and doing nothing about it, and one day we'll turn round and find we're right back in 1850 and have to start all over again!
TTBT, I never had to watch my weight in my life until I got ME and stopped work. Now I've put on a stone and cannot get it off !! I hardly eat anything but I also hardly ever move far from the couch lol. But what works best is to stick to a real old-fashioned kind of eating. Porridge for breakfast, home made soup at noon, and a bigger meat meal at teatime. No rubbish in between (apart from sweeties which ate NOT RUBBISH :) ) and no junk like crisps or fizzy juice. I found it was hard at first after being used to snacking at work from canteen or machines - but it's surprising how soon your body adjusts.
Re people's remarks on food banks thats half canny-be-bothered-ness and half snootyness I think!

Mar - have you tried the other was around? I know it sounds a bit daft, but we were hoodwinked by the cereals giants to believe that grains are 'right' for breakfast. For once, the French had it right and cheese and ham are a much better start to the day because we need the fat and protein to give us the energy for the day (whatever we are doing :rotfl:). Carbs make you dozy, and whist I know oats are supposed to be better, I have never found that I am any less hungry having porridge over shreddies :D Having the main meal at night means we don't have time to process it properly before we go to sleep as the gut shuts down for the night.

I am going to start shifting our meals around as we are not rushing out first thing so we can take time to eat properly then. I can't eat after service anyway, so it would be much better to have our main meal at lunch time.

Knitters - what does the (k) in this mean please?

K1, yo, (k), yo, k1, yo, (k,) yo, k1 - Sorry, found the answer :o, that will teach me to read the instructions properly :D

I put 1lb on this morning but I have been scoffing of an evening. I'll take head the protein rice breakfast. I've had a nectarine for my breakfast and i know in the next hour i'll be hungry and graving a sugar rush.

The mascara on the white brows has worked a treat! Thanks :)

Once people had money, could buy the items that fills their homes but now find themselves without the income to feed their families. It can happen out the blue. It can spread throughout the classes. But what happened in our history was if you couldn't afford to eat or pay for your fuel you sold your assets. I can see why there's a bit 'but they have a wide screen TV'. It's difficult isn't it.
