Was just popping in to mention that possession, I bought a kitchen clock that I was planning to buy anyway, cost me the postage only0

Me too, :rotfl:
why is it I can't think what to buy when it's free!
A question for business minded peeps and asking for payment for services. I'm good at the shmoosing and the practical things but when it comes to the money side, well I'm a softy.
Most clients don't want to pay...human nature I guess, but I find it excruciating to actually ask. I do give an invoice to try and make it easier all round, but really do I ask for payment up front or after the service is given, in my case the cat sitting.
I of course would like the money upfront right now, well at the beginning should I say, so how do I word it on the contract and T&C's?
My mouth opens and I say, oh no, that's fine, whenever...:o:o0 -
Fab - thanks all, just got 50 A4 sheets of freezer paper for 75p - I've been after some for a while but it is so expensive from quilting shops and a good bargain popped up as well!0

I think you definitely need payment upfront, perhaps with some percentage refund if they have to cancel (or perhaps not, up to you!). If they were putting them in kennels they would certainly have to pay upfront. I'm off to bed now as still can't stop coughing but will think more about wording in the morning.0 -
Two things that I avoided for years are beef and black pudding(well that includes offal of all kinds)Don't think I have ever had BP but I may start to throw caution to the wind if it is tasty and cheap. I have started eating Corned Beef again.
I propbably have been eating offal without realising it as I watched a series meant for children but adults could learn a thing or two about food, it was called Incredible Eatibles.
Back to a topic that has come up a few times. Clothes...I mainly stick to CS's now(I know a lot of what the NH)were using for Mum were recycled(and a fair bet they were from residents who had sadly passed away)It's a fair bet the same is true of CS especially mens clothes because I don't think men clear their wardrobes as much and tend to stick to a few items(I know that I do)that last years(I don't mean that to sound sexist)
However, though I won't be buying much more(I have to think whether I need it)have the space for it and should I move(downsize)will the new place have enough space otherwise I'll be getting rid of what I have just purchased.
But I now realise thanks to my trip to Peacocks...on quality and price I willl be using them more, ASDA and Tesco's are quite good but thanks to Shegar and what was said about Primark I will consider looking in there for some items but as I have to travel and tha can cost almost £8 in bus fares(unless I have a special ticket)and therefore any savings on what they sell can be lost. I'll make a visit to Primark on those special times.
They seem to have items not too more expensive than the CS's or a lot less than the clothes shops we usually think of and thankfully there is a Primark in Darlington approx 7 miles away.
A Tesco's/Peacock's on my town and two ASDA's, two Sainsbury's, another Tesco's, Aldi and Lidl but I have to travel to them as they are in neighbouring towns(as is a Morrisons)
Could be worse I guess so you've given me a few ideas foodwise and clotheswise. In one way I will save money even if in another way I am spending.
If income had been better and I'd had a bus ticket I would have been stocking up on the specials of waterproof jackets and trousers and bedding at Aldi/Lidl's in their specials promotion but the money has stayed in my pocket for now.
One local town has 8 well known stores all near each other so if you lived there you don't have to travel out of town for your shopping and they have other shops I have not mentioned and yet to me I don't see it as a major town.
Or employment being high in the area. I can only assume that it has a quite a lot of buses going to and from other towns and that brings in extra business."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Byatt - you should be receiving payment upfront, you could offer a 50/50 type agreement if you really cant stand the idea of all upfront, that gives them the peace of mind that you have to turn up in order to get the rest of the money.
When I was childminding I used to invoice weekly, and only billed for the exact time I had the child rather than the contracted hours, this meant that parents who were late (and some would be two hours late) always paid the extra. One family though booked me for the whole summer, and then didnt pay until they were paid by tax credits four weeks later. I was beside myself, having done six weeks work, taking their child on outings etc while they relaxed (literally they were both off work) and they couldnt be bothered to pay. If I did it again I would ask for week payment upfront and invoice extras as it were.0 -
Twelve per cent gradient? Yikes!
Just read this:
Once you exceed 10%, you're either climbing a mountain or wishing that the road crew could have eliminated this hill during construction. This is where gravity takes over and you're struggling to move forward.
Perhaps you could invest in a goat? and a harness, and a skateboard
I used to push a pushchair up that hill! It's a hard slog and treacherous, if not impassable in snow and ice. I'll be trekking through the fields to get to work in the snow.Fuddle, do you have a full car driving license? I just saw this when I looked up the rules in the UK:
50cc – You need to be at least 16 to drive a 50cc scooter and have a provisional UK licence. Once you’ve taken your CBT, you can ride a 50cc scooter with ‘L’ plates. You can't take passengers or drive on motorways until you have a full UK motorcycle licence.
If you have a full UK driving licence taken before Feb 2001 no further tests are needed. Holders of a full UK driving licence also do not need to have 'L' plates
I have a full driving licence, before 2001 so that is good to know but Possession has made me think about the safety aspect. I called my cousin who has had a very nasty accident on his bike, he needed airlifting and was hanging onto life by a thread... it happened to him and he was a bike tutor, doing the CBT. I'm too scared now after hearing his stories. He said he'll never get on a bike again. I put it to him that a scooter wouldn't go the speeds he could and he said it's not your own driving you need to watch, it's others out there. It's a no go.
Fuddle exciting! Are you looking forward to starting or nervous?
I'm excited. I know the head teacher and secretary as DD used to go there. I worked in schools for 10 years with children who had special educational needs so this job I could do in my sleep. do I sound big headedI have to admit that I'm a bit queezy stomached... the dinner slop bucket may have me ill and the thought of cleaning up cold beans or slopped custard from the floor, mixed with gawd only knows is a bit  but... I'm made of strong stuff me
:rotfl:
Enjoy !!!!!! tonight, as always. I will be trying the little soap end trickHer hair looked lovely using the soap plant.

Thanks Possession - I have just treated myself to a couple of dies for my die-cutter, corners that I can use on lots of different cards. For free!
Byatt - up front or 50/50 unless you're certain the client will stump up. I leave my dog walker's money on the sofa for her to collect when she comes to walk the dogs.Aspire not to have more but to be more.
