Fuddle just had a thought - when you start work they may let you keep a small bag of meat in the freezer at school!! I know the teachers at our school often put their shopping in after lunch - and many forget it there for ages. :) May not be possible but worth a little enquiry
  • Fuddle I don't know where you are but don't forget to try Gumtree they sometimes have free to collect freezers.
Link below for Sussex for example http://www.gumtree.com/freebies/uk/fridge+freezer

Hello all, have read up to page 345 and will read it all from there later on. Had a lovely visit with DD1 and had a busy time getting all the boxes etc sorted out and put away and then the containers up into the loft. Hope you are all feeling better now that were poorly last week, and safely home that were away. DD and I found in B & Q small fleeces just the right size for a normal sized curtain backing for £3. We got a cream one and there is a soft grey as well as many bright colours. It made a real difference to the temperature in the dining end of the room when we put it up. It's light weight and fits just nicely behind the curtain without being too bulky when it's pulled back in the day.

MRS CHIP - If you are still looking for nice but easy veggie ideas we sometimes have Garlic Mushrooms inside a hollowed out crusty bread roll crisped up in the oven. It's very easy to put together and the bread rolls stay crisp for a couple of days after crisping them up. Hope that helps Cheers Lyn x.

    I'm not :rotfl: I have about 4 a day. I tried :o I cut down by over 50% though, that's progress :D

To be honest my tummy has been fine the last few days. I might look into meat and IBS because I haven't had any meat for a couple of days.

The thing is my plans centre around getting DH and I a home of our own and mortgage paid off by the time we retire. I haven't thought about passing it down to the girls. Maybe I should? The girls will have to make their own lives. If we need to sell our house to pay for a roof over our head that is supported/carers attached then I think so be it. My mam's house will be sold to pay for any sheltered accommodation she might require. They worked, my dad died, the insurance paid the mortgage off, my mam has an asset, if my mam needs to go into care, her asset will be used to pay for her care. I don't really get why our state should pay for the care so I can inherit a healthy lump sum.

I do know my views are not in the majority though. People all around me think it's terrible that if you own your own home you have to sell it to pay for old age care when those who have nothing get it paid for. I don't understand their views and they don't tend to get where I come from.

The reason people think its unfair to have to pay for their parents care is because years ago it was never thought of to have to do that , you didnt have to, care was automatically paid via councils/goverment..........

But because of all the cut backs which started years ago its not the case now.............
Our place is paid for , but if hubby had to go into acare home they would take into consideration is half share of the property and use that to pay for his care, but at least that leaves me with a roof over my head , which is all that matters, sod the money,....................If I have to cut back to live then so be it , ive struggled all my life, and get by....................

Our sons also knows this and they are not bothered by it at all, like they say we worked for the place , and if we need care we shall have it...........Theyve always had to work for what they have , like we had to....You dont get anything free in life.............

This is why people save for their retirement ,you cant expect to own a property and go into a care home when your ill or cant live on your own and then give your property to your children to sell and they benefit substantially and the taxpayer have to pay for their care bill................Mind you how things are going not many people in the future will be able to own their home so the goverment will have to foot the care bill........................

My MIL has taken out an insurance policy to cover care home costs. It cost an awful lot of money (£'000s) but the pay out, together with her pensions, should cover the cost of even the priciest care home without needing to touch her own house.

She did it knowing it could be money down the drain if she doesn't need it, but would protect the house and other investments for her children if she did.

    On a different note

What do vegetarians put in their sarnies and have for snacks with a packed lunch.

DD is a fish-eating veggie (I know, I know) and I struggle as she won't eat anything smelly at school - no eggs, no cheese and onion anything (pasties etc),

She will eat tuna, cheese and lettuce (With sugar :o) in her butties and that is pretty much it. I usually put a savoury in their lunches - sausage rolls, bhaji, mini pasty, etc. But am struggling to know what to give her. She has turned down cheese and onion rolls and pasties, bhajis and etc, falafels, crisps (tho not sure why).

She will occasionally take hummus and carrot sticks.

    Any help appreciated.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Just trying to read up what I've missed over the past few days and I need an extra week of time to do it, Glad you haven't given up the tea totally FUDDLE - would that make you TEATOTAL? My one little braincell is not working properly today due to a really disturbed night last night due to the weather and so much disruption in the trains on the way home today - I never do make much sense at any time but today I'm even thinking in gobbledygook!!!!! Am going to crawl back to the kitchen for another cuppa and catch up tomorrow Cheers Lyn xxx.
