My MIL has taken out an insurance policy to cover care home costs. It cost an awful lot of money (£'000s) but the pay out, together with her pensions, should cover the cost of even the priciest care home without needing to touch her own house.

She did it knowing it could be money down the drain if she doesn't need it, but would protect the house and other investments for her children if she did.

    On a different note

What do vegetarians put in their sarnies and have for snacks with a packed lunch.

DD is a fish-eating veggie (I know, I know) and I struggle as she won't eat anything smelly at school - no eggs, no cheese and onion anything (pasties etc),

She will eat tuna, cheese and lettuce (With sugar :o) in her butties and that is pretty much it. I usually put a savoury in their lunches - sausage rolls, bhaji, mini pasty, etc. But am struggling to know what to give her. She has turned down cheese and onion rolls and pasties, bhajis and etc, falafels, crisps (tho not sure why).

She will occasionally take hummus and carrot sticks.

    Any help appreciated.

Houmous sandwiches with salady vegetables are great :D if she'd go for that.

Someone didn't shut the freezer properly and stuff has started defrosting :( I'm hoping not much damage has been done as most stuff still seems frozen but the bread and berries I have in there have gone soft...I'm hoping it'll be ok still...

You can cook chips in a pan or a wok fuddle - it really needs to be a good pan though solid type.

Well done little mr stiltwalker :)

Kidcat, I hope not, not in this weather. Fingers crossed.

I'm watching Nigella. I can't help but love the easiness of Italian cooking. Anyway, she made chips in oil just in a saucepan.

Can I do that? I always thought I needed a deep fat fryer to make chips at home. What oil would I use?

Not butting in lilmisskitcat. :) It's interesting. I wonder though, that my diet sheet isn't going to be any thing like it normally is for the dietician.

I make chips in a saucepan, they're yummy :D I just use vegetable oil.

Oh doh, I knew there was something I meant to watch tonight. Oh well, going to bed soon, completely shattered.
DH said the interview went OK but he feels they think he is too senior, again. I don't know how he gets over this hurdle.

    Pooky,
I won't buy another but I like the new SC that you describe...:)

The carry on over the assessments sounds about right:mad:

Sorry about your cat still especially as the weather turns, it's the not knowing:(

Possession - maybe he needs to tackle it head on in the interview itself - I appreciate that the role is not at the level of my previous post and I am happy with that. Otherwise I suppose its on the application form but its a really hard one.

I will watch it later...all the above makes sense but this past fortnight I did put the main oven on for some oven chips but they cooked really quickly. I have a small deep fat fryer(unused so far)but I may use it yet, I won't get rid of it!

My oven chips did quicker than the information on the packet says...I really enjoyed them. I haven't any for such a long time and have missed them.

Did Nigella warn about not overfilling the pan with oil so it doesn't rise over the top of the pan when it gets hot?

I frequently hear him justifying it to recruitment agencies, as he is applying for jobs on up to a half less than his old salary, but the problem is no matter how positive a spin he puts on it, nobody is going to be comfortable employing someone who should technically be senior to them. They either think he will be bored and leave, or take their job. Don't want to bore people with details but he doesn't want to return to his old type of job, it was way way too pressured and stressful and led to what was effectively a breakdown. But obviously you can't say that in interview!

Butting in again :o I find that sometimes processed meats like ham, bacon, salami etc can affect my ibs so try to steer clear as much as possible.

I can understand that meat may be a problem, could you could still eat fish and poultry Fuddle.

I'm sure the dietician has seen this before and probably worse...good luck!

Nightmare smoosh. Sounds like you got to it in the nick of time.

I'll try veg oil, thank you :) She didn't warn about over filling the pan with oil but I'm pleased you did. Thanks :)

P it's the same over and over. It's not fair. :(
