Well, I could not tell that I wasn't eating meat and with all the other things you can mix with it and sauces its ok...and in my case I can stretch it out to make a few meals...thus the initial cost soon lost...

Even Tesco's do some meatless items of their own...

They are very much improved compared to what they used to be like when I first became vegetarian, although I still can't quite bring myself to try the "bacon" - still looks plastic!

The Tesco ones are good :) the only Tesco one I don't like is the mince, the Quorn one is so much better. Also, the best vegetarian burgers ever are Linda McCartney mozzarella burgers - definitely recommend these, they're amazing!

They seem to have upped how many of the McCartney range of products they are selling now, hey do you think this is because meat is now so costly and they realise there could be a demand for them.

I've never had the urge to try quorn although I do buy veggie things(bean burgers and those caulicheese things) and often make veggie dishes.

Thecake ((hugs)) to you, I'm sorry to hear about your cat.

Am glad to hear people's happy news and thinking of those with not so happy news and reiterate the push to have smear tests done.

I am so annoyed right now. I can't talk to dh as he's really busy and stressed and I don't want to offload on him so I hope you don't mind me offloading here?? Please feel free to ignore me.
I removed my child from school because of bullying. It is quite a well known school for bullying and nothing much being done about it. But I had enough and changed school when we complained to the headteacher about a serious incident and a few weeks later mentioned it to the class teacher who had no idea about it! I wrote to the Dept of Education about this one incident (and not all the other things I was unhappy about). I thought it was very fair and just described what had happened, including us not being asked who the bullies were or it being recorded. I just received tonight an email (not even a proper letter, 6 months later) pretty much just saying that the headteacher was happy with what thye did and they'll look into their policies. But, I wasn't happy and neither was my child who didn't want to go to school. I didn't expect much but I didn't think I'd be fobbed off so easily.

Is there any point complaining again to someone higher up or should I just get on with life? It's not going to change anything but I just think it's so wrong.

The child is now in a lovely school and doing well, which is what really matters.

Back on topic..... did you see the Dispatches documentary about Poundland and how things look good at a pound but are actually smaller than some of the supermarkets so not as good value? And that the "get so many free" are actually not free but just to make you think you are getting a good deal. For example, buy one pack of choc fingers get one free (£1 obviously) but in Tesc0s it's two packs for £1 anyway so just the same.
I'll be checking sizes in future when I buy things.

Its funny isn't it, its only recent years that I have started to eat yogurt.

There are some good offers on various yogurts at present in Tesco's...That's why my fridge is full of them.

The cake: I have a lump in my throat just thinking about what you must be feeling. You've made a very brave and loving decision. I wish we could do the same for people, I would love to curl up in my bed at home and just go to sleep when my time comes.

I have a lovely friend who is as OS as I am - probably even more so. We don't think of it as being anything in particular, it's just the way we live. I am sadly afficted by living with someone who makes a great noise about living simply and frugally but actually does nothing of the sort. It drives me mad. She's better than she used to be but there is a long way to go. She says that when she brings something unnecessary into the house I give her The Look. I'd like to give her The Punch On The Nose but I was nicely brought up.

Butter beans always remind me of a dinner we once had at College. It was in the fifties and food was still fairly scarce, but really! Boiled fish, mashed potatoes, butter beans and white sauce followed by rice pudding. All served on white plates it was quite difficult to make out where the food was. Someone must have gone to Catering College to learn how to produce an 'all white' meal.

I kept waking up in the night with aches and pains all over, that'll teach me to spend a day painting, bending and stretching! Still, I'm back to the CS this afternoon to do more of it, so it can only get worse. :rotfl:

Well she couldnt believe my OH allowed me to do that, as her OH does not eat the same thing twice in a month.
If my hubby felt like that our shopping bill would have to double, and he's be doing half the cooking himself! I hear a lot about how fussy other halves can be and don't think much about how good mine is until I do! If food is served to him and it's healthy and nutritious, he wolfs it down. As a result I enjoy cooking and do almost all of it.

I can't borrow money to do renovations. I'm quite simply incapable. In fact, as long as we have a mortgage, any major renovations are on hold. That's why I've had one working hob for a few years and will continue to do so for at least another year. I don't understand having things you can't afford, then paying treble for them as a result of interest.

tryingtobethrifty - I would complain higher, there is a new policy surrounding bullying which all schools should have adopted, its been a while since I attended training and it was just coming together then so should be in place by now. Our council has an antibullying panel who work closely with schools and other groups, its led by a police officer. Its likely that your area will have something similar.

Lisa - thats really good news. My smear is booked for next week and I have pills to take to help, although if they dont help I will go somewhere that offers gas and air,. I am fairly confident it will work having read another forum where people had tried it and been surprised at how effective it was, and they only took one pill on the day, whereas my surgery have given me three for the day before and some for on the day too.
