I love it
Wouldn't be quite as fun being a vegetarian without it!
:-) .... I actually am fed up with quorn, I find lots of it quite tasteless & I am worried by the way it takes over the supermarkets. & its no good for my mum as she's vegan, or DS2's best friend as he's allergic to eggs.Popperwell wrote: »Well, I could not tell that I wasn't eating meat and with all the other things you can mix with it and sauces its ok...and in my case I can stretch it out to make a few meals...thus the initial cost soon lost...
Even Tesco's do some meatless items of their own...
Pops, I've been vegetarian for 40 years, & in the last 15 or 20, the supermarkets had started to cotton on & do good ranges of their own veggie stuff, but now offer less since all they stock seems to be quorn. Its funny how the smell of cooking sausages suddenly brings everyone including animals into the kitchen to investigate..:D
I agree POPS much better than a ciggy!
Fancy a yoghurt now :rotfl:
I've never had the urge to try quorn although I do buy veggie things(bean burgers and those caulicheese things) and often make veggie dishes.
Bean burgers are much nicer ;-)
Running off to catch up now...

Just home from a hard day at cat rock (if you can tell me where that reference comes from you can have a piece of virtual cake).
More walls have been painted by yours truly and the shop is starting to look lovely. Will go back for more brush holding aerobics tomorrow.
I'm surprised how few people are volunteering though. There's a lot of retirees in the area and also plenty of unemployed folks, but precious few people want to help out. It doesn't need to be strenuous either, a lot can be done from the comfort of a chair, and even a few hours would help.
Anyhoo, I'd best go make dinner before I seize up. Love to all!Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

Tom & Jerry!
Looks sunny here but it's coooooold. However the Boots 3 for 2 has started so it must be nearly Christmas. This is probably the first year for ages i'm not going to buy anything in it.0 -

Well, I'm obviously not vegetarian/vegan but a lot of my meals/snacks are meat free or only small amounts and now watching income and seeing meat increase in price I may use more Quorn but as has been said there are other items and now supermarkets doing their own and they have upped the Linda McCartney range.
But it still only takes up a small section of what the ocal Tesco is selling(I haven't had chance to compare one SM against another what they sell and how much space it takes up)
Tesco's do seem to have added to the range and have alternatives and I am willing to give them a go in the coming weeks/months.
Sounds from what you say that I have missed some decent items that are now no longer available."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Some shops though popular and high in the public's mind...I rarely go into, sometimes on price but now so many have nothing I need on a regular baises...I mean once I have furniture/carpets/electrical items...I hope they will last a long time.
As I hope my clothes will last ages and I am now using CS's more so they are being avoided much of the time, great swathes of shops selling what Mum would have purchased(clothes/cosmetics)I have no use of and really last night was an exception when I bought two Birthday cards because I have no one usualy to send any cards to any more(nor expect any from)
So I probably won't have Christmas cards to send out any more.
It seems strange not needing much of what is being sold.
My spending goes on food, utility bills, rent, CT and in the future BT and my luxury if I can keep it going is the internet(and that includes repairing/replacing items)and I do hope that I may still be able to afford the odd CD, book or attend the odd theatre show. But if I have to I can give up the last two. But now I am more likely to buy those in a CS or download and i still record/podcast some radio too.
Also if I ever have to move its more stuff to get rid of and then I'll be sad to see my possesions go.
Essential possesions for me would be my PC's, Kitchen gadgets, TV, Bed, clothes so not that much really..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I've been a [STRIKE]vegetable[/STRIKE] vegetarian for 18 years now. I'm really not a big fan of quorn and other meat replacements. they tend to be a bit bland and i find them quite expensive.
i like to cook with beans, eggs, lentils...
i'm just about to put a load of beans and veg in the SC for a mixed bean chilli. the veg to go in it is mostly from the lotty, the beans and lentils were bought at the asian sm and very cheap, so with a carton of passata, a couple of stock cubes and some spices scavenged from work because they were ood, i will have 2 or 3 meal for each of us for pennies.
i'll add the spices, but will put the chillies in after i've portioned the girls' up because they don't like the spicy heat.
(the girls are not veggie, but they do eat regular veggie meals. I do know it's not difficult to feed veggie kids, but i prefer them to have some meat while they're still so small so i don't have to worry about complete proteins and combos of beans/lentils.veggies for them, a bit lazy i know)
in fact the eldest said to me not so long ago...i hope you're not expecting me to be veggie when i get older, i love meat. the youngest probably wouldn't be bothered either way.
okie doke, off to take a couple of paracetamol and pick mum up for a wander x love and hugs to all, whether you want them or notfreecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -
Morning All!
Question for all you veggies -
I am looking for interesting vegetarian options for the van. They need to be quick to do (on the van, does not matter about the prep beforehand). If it could be frozen all the better.
I currently offer a very limited choice because a) we don't get that many veggies, b) limited options that can be prepared on the van.
I do offer vegetarian wraps - Feta and Olive, Falafal and HM hummus etc. I also have a few boxes of Linda Mc C stuff. We have a microwave on board so can do reheating.
We fry our meat products in the fish fryer - how may of you would not be happy to eat anything fried in that oil? i currently don't offer fried stuff because of this.
Any suggestions will help me get our menu for next year sorted out!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Morning everyone,
Well the sun is out here this morning so bed stripped and washing on, towels after that. Had a phone call last night from next door neighbour wanted to know if I wanted any furniture, her aunt is going into a home and she wants her furniture given away not sold. She is a lovely old lady shes 89 her home is filled with furniture shes had all her life.
So early this morning I went with my neighbour and I am now the proud owner of 2 beautiful old matching chest of drawers for my bedroom and 2 old oil lamps that was sitting on them. Neighbour said she asked alot of family did they want any thing there answer was not those old things.
I am so excited they are beautiful, neighbours OH will deliver them to me after he finishs work. I could have taken the whole house all that old furniture that she had cared for all these years. So I have been looking at my bedroom and working out with my OH where to put them as my neighbour will help my OH rearrange the bedroom.
Cant wait to get them they are so beautiful.:j
Going to make up a little basket of goodies for her aunt as a thank you for them.:)C.R.A.P. R.O.O.L.Z. Member. 21 Norn Iron deputy h

Mrs chip, i would no way eat anything fried in the same oil, though i do know some that would...
I'll get my thinking cap on for veggi options, but how about haloumi kebabs for example??
what equipment and what space do you have?
pasta and noodles can be precooked then just refreshed in boiling water and a sauce reheated in mike. at school we have little cardboard tubs for pasta pots, like a big takeaway coffee cup...freecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0
