  • By the way those photos of families shown what they buy each week are about 5 years old, could be older, I know I saw them the year mum died as remember showing her and discussing it about a month before but no sure when I first read the article, it was in an on-line newspaper at first I think things might be harder for them all now.

Fuddle - if it is IBS then you'll soon learn what triggers you. Mine is triggered by stress but also by to many yeasty products (hence I try to only eat bread once a week now) the medication I have works wonders when an attack comes on and it's controllable.

I was diagnosed when I was 15 and found it hard to cope with at that age. It's just another one of those things that trundles along in the background now.

Just been out for a lovely walk along the cliffs, managed to pick enough elderberries for another gallon of wine too which was a bonus. Shattered now though and about to embark on some serious number crunching as I want to find room in e budget this month to buy a coal bunker rather than have bags stacked in the garage.

I've to go back to make sure it's not an infection or food allergy but he did seem to think my symptoms ticked the irritable bowel syndrome route :( I know it's nothing to worry about I just feel a bit lost. I feel like I've done it to myself, abused myself with over eating and indulging in rot for years. Because I have no real definition yet I have no advice to take away and work on so I'm left wondering what the heck IBS is all about and what I can do to help myself.

It's thrown my dieting up in the air and my meal plan! I'd best do some research. Wish I knew what was triggering it.

A friend of mine recommends probiotic acidophilus (in tablet form from Holland & Barret etc) for virtually every kind of tummy upset. My hubby suffered from what seemed to be IBS and he tried it and thinks its some kind of miracle as he hasn't had a problem since. He takes regularly.

I eat natural organic yoghurt every day and rarely get any upset but on one occasion it sorted me out in a couple of days.

Maybe some tummies need more help from friendly bacteria than others.

Yes you are right Pah I thought I had seen them before. Hopefully they are just concentrating on healthy food for now.
  • I'm recently back from Krakow (Poland) and can confirm they eat very healthily there..lots of vegetables, fish and chicken (though they do have something called "fried lard" that tastes delicious)! The food in restaurants costs about £6 for a top class main course.
Rarely do you see anyone overweight there, only the tourists (i.e. ME)!
    Normal people worry me.

The amount of food in front of that German family is astonishing.

I don't personally include alcohol in my food budget. I don't drink, I almost never use alcohol in cooking and the only alcohol bought around here is the OH's beer, which he pays for out his "pocket money". We've all got our own bit of disposable income, the kids spend theirs on sweets/comics/nail varnish/PC games/going out with their friends, I spend mine on hobby things, OH spends his down the pub. So to my mind booze is not part of the food budget, it's entertainment/personal spending.

Acidophulos is also available in a powdered form for those needing to hide it ;) costs a bit more but very handy!
Have those of you with IBS/bowel probs ever looked at candida?? Its very interesting as a lot of symptoms if you have an overload in the gut, mirror IBS and a change to the diet can really help :D
    I really am obsessed aren't I :rotfl:

Just sat down but a bit cross as spent alllll day cooking and baking and picking etc and after finally getting rid of my cucumber mountain I've now just picked 6 more

I'm glad to hear booze isn't part of the food budget. That means my food budget has just been halved.
  • Hey FUDDLE - sorry to hear you are feeling poorly and have had to visit the Doc. If you want to get some information about IBS go to the library, they will have books (sometimes in the cookery section) telling you guidelines for what to eat and explaining fully just what is happening when you get an attack. If you want to get a booklet to keep, your local pharmacy should either have one or be able to get you one. I was diagnosed with it years ago and have flare ups occasionally usually due to stress. I can really sympathise pet, not nice is it? Chin up you'll find a way to cope with it, you always do Cheers Lyn xxx. I doubt very much that it has anything to do with the food you've eaten, if it's IBS its a condition that develops not something you can effect, you've had a lot of stress over the past few years, it takes its toll and can present in many different ways.

I would never consider alcohol as part of my food budget....it is OH's responsibility to buy his own wine and any other alcohol we have in the house during the year.

Shegar...hugs and healing vibes for your OH.
