  • Softstuff it was about 6 months ago so not sure now, but there were haribo-type sweets, rainbow drops-type things (multi-coloured puffed rice), some really yukky puffed snack thing i'd never heard of, some kind of lollipop, a cheap version of cola, some cheap chocolate and a couple of other things. Make of it what you will, LOL! I didn't feel very lucky, but then it was only £1.

Lovely fresh morning here, windy but sunny.

Have whizzed through the housework and have been out chopping pallets, got 5 done and stacked, now have one whole wall of the garage stacked with wood, up to around 5 ft high and 3ft wide in places. Best thing is that most of it was free :T.

Now going to try and repair my kitchen chairs, the need redrilling from another direction, glueing and screwing back together. There's life in those chairs yet.

Thursday nights have now become our "on toast" night so need to get a loaf going. Beans and eggs for the girls and jam and spreads for DH and I. YUM!!

  • Shegar (((hugs))) from me too. Maybe the docs are right about you keeping hubby at home.

I have heard some bad things from relatives about hospitals lately. Mainly even basic care not being given and these were very very sick people. Some of it can be put down to too few staff but some of it seems to be either useless staff or they have just given up.

Keep up your strength and put on cheerful music when you can. It gives you a lift. Getting into your garden will also help. I used to find it gave me such a peaceful feeling.

Re vitamins, I think everybidy should take a good multi vitamin. I dont think we get enough from food nowadays, look at how they grow salad veg for instance. So intensive its practically all chemicals. Anything from a shop is the same, the only way you would know it was good would be to grow your own organically - and then you would need enough land to grow all your needs for the year. I think modern life has so many pollutants and chemical garbage loose in things that people's health is slowly but steadily going downhill. But that's just my opinion.
I can ask my doc to test my levels and they always come back "fine"... but if I ask for the exact numbers they can vary wildly, so that makes me wonder what "fine" actually is and how wide a margin they allow. My VitD went from being "fine" at 50 to still being "fine" at 150... :D

    I so agree Mar...
Speaking of pollutants and how food is prepared...still available on 4OD look at the new series about food called "Food Unwrapped" was interesting how they prepare tinned Grapefruit...wonder if it will put people off buying it.

I don't like to beiieve this to be so but I was less than impressed with a lot of the care given to Mum. But that has been said already and I won't repeat that again...try and do what Grandma suggests...

  • Thanks for that link Fuddle. If anyone can't access it cos of the f t registration page intervening, try copying the articles title - Austerity measures self-defeating, UK told - and google it. That gave me a link direct into the article. Scary stats about the percentage drop of UK wages against GDP.

Sending hug and good luck and good health vibes for your DH and also for you. You will notice quicker than anyone how his condition is and he probably feels more secure at home.

Made potato and leek soup and have a lamb hotpot for lunch (YS at £1.25 instead of £4). Work is still being done on the bathroom but it is taking shape and pleased with how it should turn out.

Just ordered dried onions from AF as I missed out the last time they had some. Hope it is not massive packs as I ordered quite a few :o Quite a few value shower gels seem to have hopped into the basket as well but they will be great for refilling hand wash containers at 30 p a bottle. Also ordered a 1kg pack of dried veg from Ama*** and some dried leek flakes.

Will offer DH an early lunch and look out clean clothes and pjs
to take to DD in hospital tonight. Still no clear diagnosis but she seems more settled and pain has lessened.

It is getting quite cold here and so pleased we have new gas fire on order. Turns out genius who sold us the house had also done some electrical work on new lights in bathroom and it was not safe. After getting everything checked by a good qualified electrician yesterday it is now done properly which is a relief.

Hugs to all and see you later.

  • The article basically says what many of us on the MSE OS threads have been saying and I have always questioned just how many are paid the amount that is always said to be the average wage £250 a week and if that is the norm and people are still. How are people managing on much less?

But I won't get too political, don't want to upset anyone here...just talking in general and many are affected otherwise we wouldn't be here.

  • Fascinating, scary and sad all at the same time: how much families around the world eat in one week
    http://www.antalik.com/how-much-food-is-eaten-around-the-world-in-one-week/
  • Just as interesting is how healthily each family eats.
Germany - there is a lot of booze in that lot
    US a lot of junk
Italy looks healthy apart from the pop
    Mexico scarily too much pop
    Poland looks good
    Egypt also looks good.
Ecuador looks good too if a bit restricted but still healthy
Shingkey (looks like china) looks healthy too
Chad well it is pretty obvious they do not have enough. Was going to add something to that but changed my mind as too political. They do have food growing there but it is all for export to pay imf loans.
