  • Watched !!!!!! during lunch today and loved it. Have had my hair tied in a scarf all afternoon. OH will think I've gone mad, but really he should be used to it by now.

That said, it was a hard life back then!
  • SHEGAR -I remember Cardinal Red Polish, when I was little Mum used to put the polish on the tiles, and then tie dusters over my feet and let me play at ice skating until they were shiny again, I loved it. I used to like polishing the old coal range after she'd black leaded it too, I'm really sad aren't I? Nice memories though. Cheers Lyn x.

My first house had those tiles in the porch, hallway and dining room. It had not had any polish on for years and I had the bright idea to use cardinal red polish on it. I had to paint it on with a brush and leave it then go back to it to polish it. Oh did I hurt afterwards and I was still in my teens (just).

Rosehip jelly is very nice and I have used it as a substitute for honey in some recipes.

We had the red tiles too! Our house was built in 1963 and we moved in from new - I was 4 . We moved from an old Victorian house in North London, and I remember the bathroom (such as it was) was behind the kitchen. The new house must have seemed amazing to my parents. The house we left is worth millions now... :

I loved the rose hip syrup and concentrated orange juice that mum used to get from the baby clinic when my brother was born, they were delicious! And the gripe water was yummy too. Not the same now as no alcohol :rotfl:.

Is there any way you can test the alcohol content IN HOME BREW. oPPS caps, sorry. I don't drink but thought I'd have a Friday night tipple of my raisin and wice wine and I'm getting really hot and bothered. I think my home brew is very strong. :rotfl:

Probably the best way to test it is to drink A LOT.

Rose hip wine is my utter favourite but I've not found any yet round here that I can get to.

Watch out for earwigs in them, they always seem to have them in when I pick them.

Apologies if I'm being a party pooper . . . . .but please don't completely strip the wild roses bushes as the hips are a valuable food source for wild birds in winter when the ground is snow covered.

I buy dried rosehips from the homebrew shop - saves time, prickled fingers and snagged clothing! :) and they store really well :)
