The really nice thing about this thread is that no matter what silly time you log on here, there is sure to be someone rabbitting on about this and that.
Names. Our family have always named our stuff ever since my Dad decided, just after the war to get an electric cooker. It was built like a tank and weighed several tons but Dad was working for the Electricity company and decided that it was the loyal thing to do. There were 2 makes, Jackson and Revo. Dad's was a Jackson so he called it Overton of course. (Read it backwards.)
GQ: don't worry about being boring, get on those black fishnets, high heels and long ciggy holder and life will become a tad more interesting.
I am devasted that you've given up on the leopardskin trolley idea. No, really. I sobbed. I may have to adopt one myself. Actually, after reading all these posts I'm quite warming to the idea. And if I do I WILL call her Marlene. So there. Ya-da-de-da-da.
omg it's late and I am getting sillier.
I might not be good at naming things, but chickens now, that's fun. My first two were Hinge and Bracket, swiftly followed by French and Saunders and the half dozen made up with Gert and Daisy. (Gert and Daisy, for those of you younger than me, were Elsie and Doris Waters, sisters to Dixon of Dock Green, comediennes in the forties, wrote a wartime cookery book. Gosh it's hard educating the ignorant these days.)
I'm off to bed you will be relieved to hear.

I know Gert and Daisy:p but my interest has always been comedy and drama of the past and that includes a lot of the Music Hall/variety acts of the past...
Going to try and do something a bit more adventurous tomorrow with my main meal of the day possibly a casserole or a stir fry and may try some of my Quorn chicken pieces...I'll have to add some leeks(I bought some yesterday)and they were prepacked, wonder if I'll get chance to use them all, good value mind...8 full sized leeks for £1 so there's one fresh veg that does not seem to have one up in price...
One week I paid more than that for 6 baby leeks...but I did use them in quite a few meals...
Must try and have "Breakfast" and perhaps eat some cereal and fruit or porridge just for a change. Oh, another bargain perhaps? Today I got too packets of babyleaf salad normally £1 for one packet but you got two for that price so that made them 50p a packet and sometimes once opened if you don't use the whole packet it gets wasted but the second should be useable.
Some pork meatballs(already to eat cold)or they can heated so I can add them to a few meals. And I used a voucer so everything was free...
I like small tomatoes so whilst passing a local greengrocer they had some lovely little tomatoes locally grown and they were cheaper.
So that has given me something to think about...I may get some ideas on the recipe sites on the net or in my cookbooks...
I mailnly stuck to variations on salads and salad sandwiches yesterday. Not that doing so would do me any harm..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

You're up late popperwell!
I've just been trying to catch up on the thread after being absent for a few days, not a snowball in hells chance, lol.
re. naming things. only things that are truly loved get named in this house...the kids, the pets and phyllis, my gorgeous yellow kitchenaid mixer.
re. walley trollies. I can't bring myself to get one, I would never live it down. I have compromised though. DD1 was given a denim suitcase/trolley/flight bag thingy on wheels. we take that shopping now, with the added bonus being that she pulls it for me
My birthday was spent in a maudlin sulk for no apparent reason, blaming it on the weather I think.
The following day was spent with a bad head after a friend brought wine round to cheer me up:o
After scrimping to ridiculous lengths to scrape enough money together to pay for mot and expected repairs, the car passed, which meant we actually had a little bit spare to spend on shopping. I feel so much happier now there is actually food in my cupboards and I can no longer see the bottom of my chest freezer. The plus side of course, is that I got cupboards cleaned and freezer defrosted without having to empy them first. The kids were excited to see fresh fruit again too!
We met up with my mum and my nieces on the park for a picnic today and all the girls had a lovely few hours playing together and I now have eldest niece (9) staying over. She and DD1 were still awake at 11.30 so expecting lots of crankiness in the morning. Apart from that though they've all been so good. I haven't had her to stay in ages, partly because I find her hard to handle. We have tourettes in the family, but hers is accompanied by sleeping problems, mood swings, behaviour problems, emotional outbursts...none of that tonight thank goodness!
I'm taking the 3 girls blackberrying on the meadows tomorrow. DD1 wants to show her cousin where all the best ones are
Must get my bottom up to bed if I stand any hope of getting up in the morning. with love to all xxfreecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -
Morning Lisa,
Hope that you enjoy your day out. I'm catching up on some tv and radio(get unlimited access to the net midnight to 8am)
I managed to sleep a little earlier(had to take some painkillers)toothache(they've worked)
Glad you had some good news amongst some days that were difficult...soemtimes we have days that get you down but you cannot always see why...
I have a trolley, should have got one sooner, can't think why I didn't but your solution is a good one and I did consider that as an alternative, so far my "Cheaper" version of GQ's trolley as worked perfectly well for me...but as income reduces as it will...it may not get used as much as I won't be able to afford as much...then again when I do a big shop but perhaps not as often it will still get a lot of use.
It's a lovely thing to see cupboards, fridge/freezers and a store room well stocked. Gives you some security even if temporary...
Just been downstairs to get some streaky bacon out of the freezer so I can have a bacon sandwich sometime in the morning, it's been a while...covered in brown sauce...
Found a few things I'd forgotten were in there...
Hope you sleep well...

GQ can I be rude? How much does the rolls Royce of trolleys cost? So looking forward to my shopping trips with mine when kids get back to school.
Want to try a plaited loaf now after watching gb bake off
Also what are those scraPers called that thy use for dough? They would make my bread maki g much easierI'm too embarrassed to say. You can look at it on the same website that Kittie posted a link to a page back if you like.
:rotfl:at Smiley's comment about Craig,
we are twins Craig and I...:p
BTW Craig, I now have tins of rice pudding!
and it's a giraffe, not a cow...:pIt is giraffe-like, isn't it? They do a version where the white bit is camel and that is soooo giraffe-like it's not true. I also have tinned rice pudding. Is it a secret club?
I agree Byatt - that is giraffe print, this year's 'in skin' :rotfl:
Craig, you are as mad as a box of frogs and I love it. Somebody once said that growing old is compulsory, growing up is optional. A pal always says that you're never to late to have a happy childhood. She's about 60. And has been known to wear fairy wings in public.
Well, having a rare bout of insomnia caused by going to bed too early (i.e. before 9.30 pm) and trolley-excitement, so thank goodness for the interweb.
Catch the rest of you at a more civilised hour...........Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Greyqueen:- I love the look of the trolley. Can I add the name 'Dolly' to the list?
I have been traipsing around a few sites and have come upon this page http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/320934511318?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&adtype=pla
I wondered if your birthday money might be tempted by one of these for the allotment produce! In SHTF situation it will be a winner too.
Watching the GB Bake Off made me hungry too, in my laziness I reached for a Nectarine (good) and two small bars of chocolate! (bad/medicinal!)
I do find that being in the house on my own makes me eat like a teenager...any carp will do as long as it's instant!I also realised that I forget to drink and I worked out I only had two cups of tea all day yesterday. Having been told by my practice nurse to drink more I definitely fell a bit short yesterday!
I have been aware that I have been drinking less so I'm going to have to work on that. I have always looked askance at the 6/8? litres a day thing ( think it's that?) and I know the overriding factor in the back of my brain is the well known principle of 'what goes in must come out.' IYKWIM! And yes as a former nurse I should know better, but sometimes my day flies and I like the taste of cold tea and well, I'm just a bit bone idle about it!:rotfl:
How much fluid do the rest of you drink and how much do you think it affects your well being?Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
It's 8 GLASSES (approx 2 litres) a day Meme! 6-8 litres would be a problem and you'd probably be hospitalised within a few days!0
