I found this very helpful page. After looking at a few different sites it seems that you need to be careful where and how you apply it with regard to beneficial insects. There is enough info on the page so you can avoid killing them.

    Hi Everyone,
Been missing for a few weeks. I lost my job in July and couldnt look for another one as I had an appointment at the hospital early Aug for my shoulder.

I have had restricted movement in it and its very sore been that that for months had a xray early in the year but showed nothing
    .
Went to hospital and had an ultrasound and I have torn my tendon, no wonder its sore says the Dr, so its been straped for a couple of weeks and now I have to wait until I get an appointment with the surgeon to have it fixed but that could be awhile. So in the mean time I have not to lift, carry or raise my arm above my head.

I can not look for a job now as I only have one good arm and then will need time off for the surgery and after care, and I dont know when that will be.

So for now I am at home I have been very good and working to a budget and selling some things on e*ay all money from that is used for extra food to put away.
Tomorrow I am going to get the OH to empty the linen cupboard and put everything on the bed. Then sort through it as I have some fabric in there, that I can make some place mats and napkins with.

just making a potato and bacony cheesy bake and some carrot and sweet potato soup. But as usual my children are far too desperately starving to wait that long. How can they always be hungry?!

Possession I go with the black hole theory rather than the hollow leg one. I think my DS2 who is 13 has a black hole instead of a stomach. This sends food to another dimension from which is re-appears as middle age approaches and it hits your body at tremendous force. This accounts for the fact I used to eat two dinners a night, and was a size 10 at my heaviest, and now have thighs that would make a lumberjack start reaching for his chain saw and shouting "Timber".

GQ That trolley is making me feel slightly envious. It is gorgeous :D For me it looks more cow patterned and so I put forward the suggestion "Bessie the Bountiful" or Bess for short.

Dinner is in the oven, but my stomach is feeling off. Nothing I can put my finger on, but just not right. I also need to confess that I forgot about two portions of savoury lamb mince I left in the fridge and have had to throw away :( I put it in margarine tubs and I think it confused everyone. I will knit my own museli and flog myself with my apron strings tomorrow as penance.

The oven is beeping so bye for now xxxx

    I get diatomaceous earth from
    http://diatomx.co.uk/epages/eshop439661.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/eshop439661/Categories/DiatomPest

I get the pest one and you need a puffer of some sort. I used it selectively around the allotment with great success

Heck, I still need to read backwards. Just saw the bit about the trolleys and I have the rolser cow print but it looks discontinued now, it is shiny cow print all over and is an absolute dream. Very light, with various pockets and easy enough to push if its very busy. I love it

How about Ermintrude? I know she was a pink cow but I think it suits your trolley.

I can't believe we are a group of grown women (and a man!) discussing what name to give a shopping trolley!!!! :rotfl:

I found this statement near the bottom of the page
"Diatom is not harmful to Earthworms since they are structurally different from insects. "

I will have a look about other things and will ask some questions on the group to find out what they say about other insects etc.

Missed that bit... but I'm very doubtful because if it can kill slugs it can surely kill earthworms (or maybe I'm missing something else!)

I think it would certainly kill beneficial invertebrates like garden beetles of all varieties, as it says it kills carpet beetles. A beetle is a beetle after all! :D

I'd be very wary of using it in the garden if it does what it says on the tin so to speak.

    :p I can!

Back when I had cars, I was shopping at the very bottom of the market and having to be v.careful. I was extolling the virtues of my latest Fiesta to a pal inc absence of rust and low mileage and he said Never mind all that, what colour is it?!

All the best people name their stuff, dontcha know. Mum's washer is called Charles III. Her first automatic washer was a Carlton = Charlie. It was replaced by a Zanussi, which didn't lend itself to nicknames, so it was Charles II. The current and ailing incumbent is a Bosch and is Charles III. She's hoping to have a Miele next time but she can't call it Millie or I'll get confused because that's what I call my fridge.

One of my old cars was called the Killer Tomato........it had to be seen to be believed............:rotfl:
