  • Morning Toughies, I wish to report that the Ironing Mountain is no more!!!!! I woke up at 4.45am this morning to the sound of two pigeons having a conversation in the roof outside the window and decided to tackle the ironing. All better now!!

FUDDLE - I do cook outside on the OzPig - mine is called FATIMA 'cos you could cook for the 5,000 on her when she is fired up. Yes we do cook in the garden and I make stews, have a good cast iron frying pan that fits the top plate so can do sausages, chops etc. I make Damper Bread in an iron casserole on the top plate, the kettle boils in no time at all when the fire is hot. I was lucky enough to pick up an aga kettle for 50p at a jumble sale and that fits over the fire. I also have a pie iron, we got it from the same man who sells the OzPigs and you can make toasted sandwiches, pies, even cook batter or cornbread in it, it goes inside the fire when it's lit (they have a very long handle so you are safe handling) and you can make desserts, the best one we like is a blueberry/blackberry and cream toastie, Yummy! The best fun is having a cook out on a nice day, you can keep the fire going for hours and can burn any fallen wood or pallets ,anything really. They are quite economical on wood too and you don't need masses for a firing up.

Have the joy of a dental check up later this morning and will then pop into Mr.T as I have to go to the local town for the dentist, necessary maintenance but not fun!

Have a good day everyone, It's nice to be back. Cheers Lyn xx.

Can I ask do all these bed wetting children have a light on in or next to their room? I found that helped. I have no idea why.

Also my family have problems with bed wetting that goes back many generations. One of my aunts was nearly nineteen and about to get married before she stopped.

We also have a problem in the family where a child cannot wait and must get to a toilet when they say they need it. They do seem to grow out of it though. My daughter, youngest son and my niece all had this but stopped at different ages.

With my kids I used to put a shower curtain over the main sheet and then put a draw sheet over it like they used to do in hospital. If you can get to it quick enough you save the main sheet so only have a little one to wash and dry.

Some people who use real nappies use a pure wool cover under the child. .

Thank you, Grandma247, I've not tried a light. The street light is actually right outside his window, but since I've been thickening up the curtains, & the street lights are on less, it doesn't help! I've got the plug in night lights, would that be enough, or is it more of a leaving the landing light on? The door stays ajar for the cat, so light does trickle in through the gap.

The house we lived in in London, had glass bits (fanlights?) above the bedroom doors. Well, they may have been above all the doors, but I remember lying in bed with the bit of light from above the door, & I was only 8 when we moved. I know mum & dad had to replace a wooden panel in my brother's door at the new house with translucent plastic so he'd still got that bit of light. It may have helped him not bed wet then, as well as be able to sleep. Solid doors here though, so that's not an option.

I have a twitter a/c well two - one I offer distant healing and had requests from all over the world, not many but its not advertised, but its funny how people find it.

The other is the same name as my blog but never send from it just follow reuters, Piers and climate change and that is it......but will add the BBC to it, why I never thought to check it I don't know....

Madartha did you see the wowcher offer for the sweeties the other day?

I have been de-hoarding - have thrown away 22 pairs of shoes that were not even good enough for charity shop, still wearable but bit scratched in odd places so was good and threw them, plus a bag of clothes. So wardrobes look a bit better, but are still full, but I wear everything, even the things I am giving away I have worn in past year.

I am hoping my ESP turns up today as I am dying to have a go at shabby chic - was going to do table and chairs but great girls on the thread on here said not a good idea as a start so had mentioned a chest of drawers in my bedroom and they said do that, but think I will do the only other thing that is brown in my bedroom my bedside cabinet as its smaller be better to start with it. Just had a thought I want to recover my dining chairs as well as the seats are black before I give the clothes away I will check and see if any of them would be suitable to use for the chairs - off to check the bag of clothes.....

Posting from my phone at the moment, which doesn't believe in edit, so adding onto my last post...

I've got 2 waterproof fitted sheets on his bed, but I like the shower curtain idea! I'm allergic/intolerant of wool, so rarely use it for the boys, & as we're vegetarians, don't want to put a sheepskin under him... Dry this morning :-) just as well as yesterdays sheets are still on the horse at the moment...q

<<sigh>> oh dear, I've woken up with a lurgy. Sore throat with a "lump" at the side, aching joints and head and a slight temperature I think.

I just don't have time to be ill. On top of that my dishwasher is making a noise like a distant dog barking. Irritating

Anyhoo - DD was very pleased with her pressies. She is currently reading her spiderman book and has her Sims games to sort out later. She and I will be off to the Phantom of the Opera in November (I love tickets as presents, no clutter and something to look forward to and then back on), Her Lord of the Rings "one true ring" should arrive today. I can't remember whether she is a geek or a nerd, she proudly calls herself one of those. Not sure of the difference myself.

Anyway I am quietly congratulating myself for managing to bring her up as a kind, decent, thoughtful (mostly!) girl who works hard and is very little trouble. She was born at an awkward age and remained so till she was about 14 but now is the sweetest girl with her own sense of who she is and a determination to get where she wants to go. Which is acting. Which is hard. But if anyone can do it, she can. Sorry :o proud mummy moment.

A bunch of 15 and 16 year olds are arriving in 3 hours to go laser tagging, mini golfing and wall climbing after the pizza hut lunch buffet. I had better clean the kitchen at least before they come.

Maybe another coffee, and a quick t'internet scan while the ibuprofen kicks in. then I'll set to.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

rs LW you put me to shame re the ozpig, I have hardly used mine but mainly have it for emergencies and we have a lot of wood scraps put by under some outdoor steps. Trouble is that when it is warm here it gets very warm and all we want to do then is sit quietly with a glass of wine or a big mug of tea. Mind you, I would probably use it more if we had family here

Pouring down again, really nasty. I have lifted a post from a poster on the weatheraction site in the public domain. From Ross

Well that's a mixed bag Piers. Some good news and some bad news. I'm so glad I have your forecasts because even the near future looks highly unpredictable by standard techniques. It looks as if the LIA conditions, when they start, are quite an abrupt change. No sitting back and watching the mercury ease it's way up the tube for decades. The effects on nature are already apparent and could be quite devastating even this year. When the cooling gets worse over the next couple of decades, I hate to think what's in store. I never realised the jet stream could do that.....scary scary scary!

ok, that is what I also think, so we should all be planning ahead and not for just a month or two but for much longer than that. This is where the winter thread comes into its own and also keeping a good store and growing veg that can cope. Assuming that we get the cold side then we have to forget growing exotic veg that originates from hot countries. Personally I would rather be in the cold parts because the alternative is frying temperatures

My house stinks of eau de mushroom just now as I am dehydrating 2.25 kg today. The sliced carrots yesterday turned out amazing too. What I am most happy about is the way that these properly dried foods last for years and years. I unearthed some 5 year old onions the other day, in a lock and lock and they are as good as new, however slightly brown as I did them on different dehydrator with no thermostat. The first one I had was a circular one with a fan at the bottom and I then had a l`equip years later to be followed by my excalibur which I will never give up. However I do have the perfect place for it in the utility and it is ready to use all the time

re the mushrooms, I did 9 boxes today and you should have seen the variation in quantity and quality. All the same date and all from the same store, Two were starting slimy and did not cover the trays, I should have weighed but couldn`t be bothered. Something I am going to watch in future and that is for re-packaged veg. It still goes on, I reckon they took the odd mushroom out and just re covered

Bedwetting. Has anyone tried supplementing with magnesium for bedwetting?

I sometimes have to get up several times at night and after checking it out discovered magnesium supplements help with this problem and bedwetting. It did help me.
