Catching up after spending all of yesterday clearing out & cleaning in the conservatory - that was 4 pages! Popperwell, I doubt that you'd ever see horse carrots in the supermarket; they tend to be much bigger than "normal" ones, and still covered in mud. I'd say there's less waste, as there's less skin per carrot, if you know what I mean. Sometimes they're a bit tough & woody, but mostly they're fine. I can see that many households would struggle to use 25kg up before they dried up or went mouldy, but there's an informal group of households in our road who share stuff when we can't use it all ourselves, so I can always rehome stuff I might not otherwise be able to use up quickly enough.
Spikyhedgehog, several of mine were rather on the late side when it came to being dry at night; I well remember having to be home by 11pm each & every rare night out, to get DD1 up & "pot" her until she was too heavy for me to carry, at about 5! We did try the alarms from the enuresis clinic with the older boys, but didn't find them much help; however I'm delighted to say that they did all grow out of it eventually. I think it runs in families; I still have to get up at least once every night myself, and always have; I don't think my system "switches off" at night like other people's do. (Sorry if that's TMI! ) And none of us are great sleepers and all but one of the kids have been through the "nocturnal teenager" phase. But on a practical level, waterproof mattress covers & old towels under (or on top of, but they wrinkle up) the sheets, and a BIG washing machine (and a tumble drier for real emergencies) helped me cope better. As did finding out that I wasn't alone, and that although it's hardly a subject of everyday conversation, many children aren't reliably dry 'til 7 or 8.
Anyway, must get on with everyday life - time to raid the freezer & see what I can dredge up for tonight's tea! {Hugs} to all in need of them, for whatever reason.Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
I wet the bed regularly until I was 10. I was due to go and have my tonsils out and my Mum told me I'd better not wet the bed in hospital as the nurses would be cross, up until that point I'd never been told off for doing it and the sudden realisation that this was not normal was huge.
When I went into hospital I remember my mum telling one of the nurses that I might do it and she sat me down and told me to always try and find a toilet in my dreams, every new dream, go find the toilet so you know where it is and then imagine there's no toilet doors on the cubicles and there's lots of people around so you can't go.....so i tried it and even now if I find myself searching for a toilet in my dream I know to wake myself up."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. I distinctly remember having a dream about finding a toilet and when I woke I had wet the bed:o. I don't know how old I was.0 -
Good morning. I have a few days off work so have made eggs for breakfast for me and OH before seeing him off to work. Have also caught up on the last couple of days of posts.
One of my roles is collecting data on patients admitted with pneumonia at the local hospital and there is usually between 90 - 120 a month but in March when we had a really good spell of weather this dropped to 65 the lowest figures I have ever had. The weather does play a big part in it and it is also a lot more common than people imagine it is.
DD2 was dry at 4 then had two lots of major surgery in 4 months and wet the bed every night following the operations until she was 7. We did the no drinks after 6pm, lifted her every night between 10 and 11and eventually ended up with the alarm system which did work but took about four weeks.
We grew a lot of carrotts last year but not enough to see us through the winter and had a big problem with carrott fly. This year I have sown the seed into the tall bags we grew spuds in last year hopeing to fend off the carrott fly. The seeds have only germinate in 1 bag but these are doing well. I think I will sow some more but have not got enough space to sow many. We bought a large but cheap bag of carrotts last year at the beginning of the winter and they saw us through the winter and into the spring. We stored them in the garage on a pallett and covered them over with a blanket to keep the frost off them. The local nursery sells pony carrotts so I will investigate these next time I am passing.
Still in pj's so will get showered and dressed as I aim to empty, clean and sort out all of the kitchen cupboards this mornig. DD2 has also asked me to help her to sort out her room today prior to starting uni as she wants to get rid of the rubbish and de clutter. Something tells me it will take more than the afternoon to do this as she is a bit of a horder like her dad so wish me luck.
Mr VPI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Anyway I am quietly congratulating myself for managing to bring her up as a kind, decent, thoughtful (mostly!) girl who works hard and is very little trouble. She was born at an awkward age and remained so till she was about 14 but now is the sweetest girl with her own sense of who she is and a determination to get where she wants to go. Which is acting. Which is hard. But if anyone can do it, she can. Sorryproud mummy moment.
A bunch of 15 and 16 year olds are arriving in 3 hours to go laser tagging, mini golfing and wall climbing after the pizza hut lunch buffet. I had better clean the kitchen at least before they come.
Maybe another coffee, and a quick t'internet scan while the ibuprofen kicks in. then I'll set to.
Hope you feel better soon. My nephew started last year at drama school at birmingham Uni - apparently it's one of the best drama schools in the country. He too wants to be an actor. He dropped out of an economics degree to do it, so he is committed.
Oh and my 7 yr old DD is obsessed with Phantom of the opera! Are you going in London? I have tickets for Brum next year but it will be a surprise for her birthday. I didn't get London tickets because the guy currently playing the phantom is on the 25th anniversary DVD and she doesn't like him so it seemed a bit pointless! For 7 she really knows her own mind.
Best of luck with the teen influx......0 -
I'm a bit confused about twitter followers - there must be some option to decide whether or not to give permission for people to follow you? I don't tweet any more but still get messages saying 'xx would like to follow you' and I just ignore them. I presume people like Stephen Fry who gather thousands of followers just leave the option open for people to follow... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Oh, I LOVE Twitter, spend unfeasibly long periods of time on it!
A normal account means that anyone can follow you but you can have what's called a 'locked' account, which means that people have to ask you permission to follow you, and it's up to you to decide wether or not they can. I follow several people with locked accounts. Anyone you follow appears in your timeline, so the more people you follow, the faster this timeline moves, with new tweets being added at the top of the page.
To interact with anyone, you must @ reply/mention them, so, for instance, of you want to talk to me () you would @betonyjoy. You will see if anyone @ replies to you, as it will show up on your @ mentions column, and/or be highlighted in your timeline.
It's possible, if you only follow accounts for information, to have their tweets delivered to your email, so you don't have to be on Twitter all day. Like [STRIKE]me[/STRIKE] some do
Hope this is some help. Just ask if you need more information, I will reply when I'm not on Twitter :rotfl:0 -
Just lost a long post about Twitter
Try again
Lets's see if I can remember what I wrote.
Most people have an open account, which means that anyone can follow you; but it's possible!to have a 'locked' account, where people have to ask your permission to follow you. It's up to you to decide wether to not to allow this. In a locked account, your tweets will not be visible to anyone who doesn't follow you, and you can't be 'retweeted'.
Anyone you follow will appear in your Twitter timeline/stream, along with retweets by those people. The more people you follow, the faster this stream moves, with new tweets appearing at the top of the page.!
To talk to anyone, you must @ reply/mention their Twitter name. So, for example, you wanted to talk to me,you would put @betonyjoy, and I would see this in my @ mentions column and also highlighted in my timeline.
If you wish to follow only a few accounts for information purposes, you can have those tweets emailed to you when they occur. Not recommended if you follow a few hundred people. Like me. Thus, you don't need to be on Twitter all the time, unlike [STRIKE]me[/STRIKE] some people.
If you want to know any more, just ask. I'll reply when I get off Twitter... :rotfl:
PS Nope, that is nothing like my original reply.0
