    Hello All

Greyqueen isn't it funny how just a few little words can make a person happy ? I too can knit (again just the ordinary jumper or something simmilar) but I have never come accross another needle looser. I knit in exactly the way you describe and all these years have thought it was just me ! Many times I have been laughed at, but, I just cant do it properly. You have made me feel normal - ta.

I'm a "needle looser" too. The technical name for this is Hands-off English Throw, it's a recognised style out of the approximately 100 different types if not more of knitting styles. It makes for a loose tension (I have to go down at least two needle sizes to get pattern tension) but it's easy enough to keep it even, with practice. It's one of the slowest styles of knitting which is why it's not popular but on the plus side, we're unlikely to ever get RSI or joint problems from clutching our needles in a death grip like some folk do. And it's a very good style for lace knitting when you don't want stitches to be tight.

I find that when people say "You're doing it wrong" it's just plain ignorance of the fact there's so many styles of knitting or indeed anything. And it's none of their business anyway. Gawd save us from the Knitting Police!

I hold my right knitting needle like a pencil and I throw the wool without letting go and I remember reading Montse Stanley's supposedly authoritative book on knitting and she said that was wrong and I should hold it with hands on top but not letting go. Just can't do that and don't see why I should - I'm a very fast knitter like that
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • Fuddle thanks for sharing your great news, I'm so happy for you. Life is full of suprises.

Last day of my leave today (and last day of regular posts too). I have a full day planned, finish the cleaning and ironing, grocery shop, shop for 5 birthday pressies, make a dairy free/gluten free cake for work for tomorrow find some suitable material for bag making in my sewing class on Tuesday. Will get started once I have finished my cuppa.

    Enjoy your day.

  • Good morning people,
Fuddle - you absolutely deserve some good news, and like everyone else here I'm delighted for you. You sound like you are going to make the most of the trip and it will give you some lovely memories to tide you over the tough times. When do you go?

Mixed weekend here: plus points, catching with some relatives and being given a big shopping bag full of goodies for cake-baking (marzipan, ready-roll icing, decorations etc etc. Minus point: we have a leaky cistern and can't get hold of the plumber.

Oh well, tonight's task is to bake a cake for Halloween - onwards and upwards!

Same here! I've had a disaaaaaaster though, gone to get those packs of gingerbread men from the SM and they have switched to halloween shapes. Now DD can't make Ginger Dead Men as I don't have time to make gingerbread men along with everything else. The world may end. It could be the zombie apocalypse.

I seen it val :D I've been following Lucy's crochet for years.

Living oop north it will take 24 hours ish to get there. The coaches have individual TV's on the head rest and games on the screen for the kiddies. It won't be easy but you have to do what you have to do. Plus we thought (because of my anxiety) it would be a better way to travel because once we get on that coach all the worry and decision making is taken away. We get driven right up to our place of staying.

DH going to the company HQ today so will have better understanding later on.

I aint phoning the tax office today, I'm too happy for that.

The bus changes that have come into place today have been great for me. I can now get the bus into the city and it goes past my door. :)

Still waiting on the wardrobe decision.

    Morning everyone,

Good luck with dentist catzine and someone else whose name escapes me sorry. Good luck for job interview nutty (you may already be at interview in which case sending positive thoughts right now.)

Thanks for advice nuatha. Unfortunately we have a flat roof in a row of terraces (v cheap housing) so not sure that would work - no eaves etc. There probably is a way but we are saving up for other more urgent house repairs/improvements and have no spare funds. Its frustrating but we've lived like this for 10 years! I will try the window film idea though. Thought about bubble wrap before but worried the condensation would build up behind it and cause more mould. Will have to experiment.

A group of friends are meeting up at a soft play today. A year or so ago we would have gone with them but the cost of tickets plus 3 lunches, coffees etc is too much. One of my friends has a third of our total income just for spending on her and son on clothes, days out, lunches etc. She empathises when I say I can't afford to go out all the time but she really has absolutely no idea. She may be getting divorced soon and I really worry how she is going to cope financially if that happens. She seems to think I can wave a magic wand for her but until she changes her attitude to money I can't offer any real advice.

I am behind with posts again but have to get on. Will look at rest later. Kids off school this week and BORED already. Want me to do stuff with them but have chores to do. Friends over Weds and need to sort out the house big time before then plus the laundry volcano and other bits. Will go out and about with them after lunch - need some food shopping (only essentials as they hate shopping especially food shopping), might go to library to get them some new books and to another town to buy some tickets for fireworks display on Sat (cheaper than buying on the day.)

Spent hours in the kitchen yesterday from making banana pancakes for brunch to a big roast, bread, apricot flapjacks and a banana, apple and apricot cake. The clearing up takes ages or is it just me?

ok second lot of washing beeping at me, gotta go

    onwards and upwards!

Good Morning folks. Photo was taken by me yesterday . I drew the smiley in the sand on a beach while a storm raged around me but I was wrapped up snug and warm and felt happier than I had in a long time.

Sorry been quiet but last Monday family in RL stabbed me in the back rather badly ( not OH or children ) and I just had to shut down to try and heal enough to function. I had not got near the sea this year and I do love it so asked OH as he had no bowls if he would take me no matter the weather and so we went to Prestatyn. I wandered on the empty beach for about an hour or so but helped heal my soul. He happily stayed in car reading. It didn't stop raining or wind let up for a second but I didn't care. Got to give OH half this he did not say I told you even though he had been warning me this would happen for a long, long time. Forgiving them was easy as I still love them all but forgetting will be a hard road.

So anyway its over and in past. I had started a facebook page as DS1 started one when he went off travelling to share his photos so I have closed that account and opened a new one with just those I know who do care about me on it, for me its the easiest way to deal with things.

A fresh start so forward I go.

Will start keeping my blog again and will put all the photos of the sea from yesterday on it, boy it was rough but so beautiful.

Well taken me most of the morning to catch up on this thread, I doubt will catch up on the others.

Fuddle am so happy for you, you and your family deserve this. I hope you will take many photos to share as never been that part of France although it looks so beautiful.

For all who are going through rough times my please take my love and lots of hugs. xxx

I'm pleased your OH could do that for you pah. I love dull blustery days walking along the beach (did you take your doggies?) with the kids and pup. The wind and noise just seem blast the lot away, leaving a feeling of calm contentment behind.

I understand completely why you went there. The best things in life are free. Hugs, my dear friend. x
