Thanks GQ - its surprised me as DS8 is way noisier than any fireworks, in fact they are all much louder. We have been ignoring them as normal anyway, and am hoping she catches on quickly. A friend has suggested a plug in device which releases some kind of cat friendly scent for bonfire night and am wondering if its worth giving that a go just in case.
It is really cold here again tonight and heating has had to go on again, tomorrow I have DS14 and DD6 at home all day so its a fairly gentle start to school runs etc. Although I have to try to get hold of electrician tomorrow and persuade him to sort our bedroom light out, DS8 dismantled it last night and I now need to have the fitting replaced!Puts the work on the car back again, but I figure having a safe bedroom light is fairly important so its won the coin toss between the jobs. AM hopeful I may catch the ice cream man while I am at it.:rotfl:

So think its how humans react that animals seem to pick up onYeah, I once asked a friend who was a vet nurse for years if she thought that nervy people had nervy pets and laidback people had laidback pets, and she concurred.
Mind you, my parents took on 2 sister cats in 2004. They were a bit shy of 1 year old and their history was that they'd been abandoned when their owners did a moonlight flit - abandoned with their 6 kittens.:( We got them via the cat sanctuary once the kits were old enough to be re-homed and they'd been spayed.
Despite coming into a very cat-experienced and loving home, they have always been absolutely terrified of strangers and will run and hide if the doorbell rings. When a stranger has to come in, such as the gas engineer once a year, they run outside and stay out, for a whole day and are decidedly-unsettled.
With family, they're as affectionate as could be, but a stranger would never even get to see them, never mind pet them.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Kidcat - feliw@y is great for calming cats, we have the plug in thingies, used them to settle in new cats and when/if things get fraught with decorating/fireworks/visitors staying etc. expensive but worth it. (think @mazon was the cheapest last time we brought)
My mum is a fab knitter but as I'm a leftie she couldn't teach me, my nan did but I just can't get to grips with it. I don't crochet correctly either according to mother as I don't let the hook do the work but use my fingers to pull stitches, but hey, it works for me. My mum used to knit for a company that did one off designs for America, lately she's been knitting baby/children's jumpers for a charity, people give her spare wool and she churns out the garments. She even does miniature knitting for dolls houses, she made a christening dress with matching frilly knickers, bonnet, mittens and booties for a 1/12th scale, she sells that mostly to Holland for some reason. A standard baby cardi takes her an afternoon and evening to knit, she has it sewn up the next morning. Evening everyone, just been watching the news and am quite worried as my youngest daughter and her partner are in the states and were due to fly up to Washington DC yesterday. They are opting to stay put with their friends in New York instead, and it seems all the trains have been suspended between WDC and NY City so that is a sensible decision. The news was saying that people were being advised to evacuate NYC as well and I'm not at all sure whereabouts they are staying, so don't know how much at risk they will be, or where they will go to if evacuated. I can only hope the powers that be are experienced enough to keep everyone safe, but I'll not have an easy moment until it's all passed through and I've heard from them again.
I just hope they are able to get back home to the UK fairly quickly and stay safe in the meantime. I might not post much until it's all over and I know they are safe, keep safe all of you, Cheers Lyn x.0 -
Lyn, I wish some coping feelings your way. I can only imagine the worry you're going through. Please look after yourself, he who knows and Docky. x0

Yes please, Greyqueen, do come and give Lodger Boy a swift and sure kick up the derriere!
Mrs Lurcherwalker, was reading an article about the storm that's about to hit the East coast of America. It's a big one and I'm not surprised you're worried. Hopefully your daughter will be fine. She and her friends might just need to hunker down for a few days.Sending good wishes your way xxx.Aspire not to have more but to be more.

GQ those waffles sounded wonderful.
Anybody with friends and rellies in the States: hope all is well with them. If it's any help. the US is far more prepared than we are for that sort of thing. Yes, even despite what happened in New Orleans. Dodgy Hugs.‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

I always used to think faggots were bundles of sticks for firewood. I was quite long-in-the-tooth before I realised they were also a food item. And I still haven't got around to eating one (hands head in shame).:o
