Just had a text to say they are in Brooklyn and 140' above sea level and have not been advised to evacuate, so they are staying in tomorrow unless advised to do otherwise. I know they are all grown up and able to take care of themselves, but it's impossible to turn off from being Mum! Thank you all for your good wishes, bless you, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Hello everyone
I hope your DD and her partner stay safe and sound Mrs LW
The best of luck with it all fuddle I would be at least asking your landlord to cover the cost of the materials used and get his agreement in writing. You don't want to be hit with a huge bill for new wardrobes when you leave.
smileyt I would be fuming too and have an oven for him to clean if he needs more punishment.
I am back home and dealing with having to cook again and the masses of laundry that seem to have bred during my absense. DH and I have spent the day bickering over stuff, including new curtains and draft excluding the door and windows. DH accused me of wanting to barricade everyone in the house with a curtain over the door. We have compromised with a new letter box and lots more foam strips. We did get new thermal lined curtains for the window that seem to be helping. We also got DS2 an electric blanket and DH decided to get us one too. He was meant to use nectar points towards them but forgot.
We also have enough sweets to see mardatha through a seige, otherwise known as trick or treat supplies. We go all out and are the only house in the neighbourhood that does. So we get all the kids coming around. DH came back from Limerick with a dropping corpse in his hand luggage. Thankfully he didn't need to get it out at the security check.
We are having pasta bake for dinner to use up some of my bacon stash from when Lidl had it at half price. Fingers crossed DS1 won't turn his nose up at it.
Take care everyone xxx0 -

That's brill news. I've jsut been looking at the evac map via The Guardian's website and they have set up an evac centre IN Brooklyn (Snyder Avenue by the look of it) and Brooklyn is not in any of the 3 evac zones.

Well am finally home from the late shift, didnt have any customers from 615 until close at 10pm!!! Was soooo boring, theres only so much you can find to do. Was just wishing i was all snuggly at home. Think I get paid for the bordness, as today was a total drag. Dont think the cold and rain helped as town seemed deserted all afternoon.
Well tomorrow is a busy day off, interview in the morning and then takeing DD17 to get new winter boots and a coat. The back for 3.07pm to be stabbed by nurse with flu jab. Prepareing to feel !!!! for the remainder of the week after having it.BSC member 137

I definitely don't want to upset the LL. We need this house for a little while yet. He's asked us to leave once and I was a bit manic over it, I don't want to have to go through it again. DH said he was amenable and is thinking about letting us pull the wardrobes out. DH is concerned that the LL is expecting it redecorated ASAP but we won't be doing that. The parameters of responsibility are getting all mixed up but much of that is our fault because we're pushing to do a lot of it ourselves just so we can feel good about our home.
You must all be sick of hearing about this, I know I'm sick of dealing with it. Top and bottom of it is we have a home, so I'm trying to be positive and thankful.
No I ain't sick of it, my shoulder is still here. I have needed someone else's for a good wail quite often in my time.0 -
Good morning. Well it is actually. I'm actually ecstatic this morning. MIL rang DH last to say that out of her inheritance she would like to pay for each of her kids to have a holiday.
Friends? I'm going to Provence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe that!?
I've said to DH that we're keeping the cost right down so we're getting a coach holiday and going to stay in a caravan-come-chalet. The travel arrangements or sleeping place doesn't matter because I'm going to get to experience a place where I've poured over photos for so long and experience the French markets. The company does day trips too so I can see other cities.
Maybe this is the wrong place to write about having a holiday at this time, the wrong thread because of all our hardship but I thought I'd share the great for a change instead of sharing the whinge.
Wow, life doesn't normally happen like this. Everyone... listen, toughies. Whenever you feel overwhelmed and totally absorbed in misery, just sit it out because life course changes in an instant.0 -
:T
No it isn't the wrong place - surely we want to share in each others good fortune as well as our disasters? I am really really happy for you and you deserve it. How nice of your MIL. What a lovely thing to have to look forward to.
I am back after being in Kent for the school reunion. Really, really glad I went. People say you shouldn't go back but it was our one and only chance to see the old place before it gets bulldozed in the spring. To have a reunion actually in the school with a tour of the school is a fantastic achievement for the organisers and I told them so. SOme bits I remembered, some I didn't. THe whole is a little shabbier (after 35 years it would be!!) but memories are still intact and added to. I would have been sad to have missed it. Met up with a girl who I used to walk to school with (girl she is 50!). My mum took me on my first day and after that I said I would walk with her (I was always determined!!) I was 4 and she was 6!!She didn't really remember me, though acted it well. Doesn't really matter though.
Best get on - unusually I am working today as I am covering for someone on holiday.
Have a good day all.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Oh how lovely Fuddle!! Provence is gorgeous. It's an awful long way by coach, especially with littlies....but the coaches they use are super duper so hopefully you can take stuff to amuse them.
I have various friends in NY, Washington DC, Virginia, New Jersey and Michigan and they were all being affected by the storm last night our time. NJ schools are closed today and tomorrow already and parts of Virginia had already lost power. Hoping it's not going to be as bad as it might be, and thinking of your DD Mrs LW.
Well my parents are here and the house is a great deal cleaner and tidier. DH has to pop into Brum today to do chore-y recruitment agent stuff, I did suggest he might even do a little xmas shopping but it wasn't met with unbridled enthusiasm.
My parents will take the children out, hope it isn't going to rain. Looking like either Ironbridge or Black Country Living Museum.0
