I can't find it on the site either...but they do give a good explanation of emergency codes and such. Not sure why your employer put you on an OT code though. That means zero allowance.
It's because I haven't filled my p46 in before my first pay.0T Your Personal Allowance has been used up or you’ve started a new job and don’t have a form P45 or haven’t completed a form P46 before your first pay day
Thanks everyone for the help.
So pleased for the diagnoses. Things will hopefully get a lot easier for your son now0 -
Hi Everyone,
No snow here unfortunately, but a dusting over the Rest and be Thankful on my way home.
Congrats on the job possession and to fuddle for your first pay packet in a while - I love earning my own money, even though I would probably be better off on benefits were I to apply.
Softstuff nice to see you back, take care

Stopped many a time at Rest and be Thankful WCS, we enjoy taking the tent to the camp site at the bottom. It must have been a nightmare for you when it was closed.0

Can I also say something that has been playing on my mind? I worry that sometimes my posts come across as bragging in some way - I can't think of specific examples at this time in the eve but I am aware of coming across as "look at me, I've done x well" and giving myself a pat on the back. I spent years - whole childhood and early adulthood at very least with very low self esteem and confidence (I know the reasons why) and used to almost apologise for existing. One tiny example, my mum and sister used to tell me (they would call it joking but I can see now it was more than that) I was a useless cook so I didn't learn how to cook til I met DH. I believed I was useless and acted accordingly. Never again. I have had to work on myself an awful lot over the years and I can now pat myself on the back when deserved but am aware that I can come across as maybe doing it too much online. Please forgive me if I overstep the mark and feel free to tick me off
think I'd better stop being so deep and think of some more practical OS type posts tomorrow (need a sheepish smilie here)

It makes me feel good to hear about other's accomplishments and acheivements so please keep telling us what you've done!Possession wrote: »YAY!!! DH has a job! :j:j:j
At the moment it's the 3 month one, still going for the others just in case. Bit of a day.
A bottle of wine is called for I think. Will have to go and get one.Possession wrote: »Although you were disagreeing with me, I actually agree with you. Sorry I was too simplistic in what I wrote before. I have a degree in English and a Masters in Japanese. I guess in one sense they were vocational in that I work in publishing connected with Japan. Although I never use Japanese now, 16 years ago I was interviewed for my job in Japanese so it has been useful. DH's degree is in Egyptology. The only way you get a job in that field is basically waiting for an academic to retire. If my children were to want to go to university, and I hope they do, I will not be paying for those degrees even though that attitude will be to the detriment of those subjects and ultimately all of us. I will pay for something vocational. Times have changed. They have changed too for students - gone are the days of drinking through your 3 years and occasionally attending a tutorial. And quite right too.
My nephew dropped out of an accountancy degree and now has a place in drama school. His parents are funding him but I don't think they are that happy about it.
ETA: it isn't official yet but it looks like DH has another job offer! A 12 month contract, better money, very local. Not counting our chickens yet though.
Well done Mr P! they're like buses...0 -

Oh Drat, I have to deal with the council :rotfl: That's my Monday took up on hold calling County Hall.

Really nice ginny. It's tiny weeny acts of kindness/courtesy like that, that makes it all worthwhile.
My sister had a Saturday job as a teenager in a discount store. We're going back 15 years here but how she was treat/trained by fellow staff and customers at such an early age has left it's mark. She rarely smiles at checkout staff or says please and thank you. It's just the way she is but I find it so rude and to be honest it must be draining being that miserable. I over overcompensate by being a bit too nice - folks must think I'm a crackpot sometimes.
Thanks suzyAnyone else find the new gov.uk site dire? It's really hard going... clear and crisp but lacks so much information. I can't find the p46 link. It'll be there somewhere I just need to find it.
Called HMRC in the hope they could sort me out now. Nope. I have to fill in the p46. I asked could they send me one. Nope, I get it from my employer. Oh Drat, I have to deal with the council :rotfl: That's my Monday took up on hold calling County Hall.
Nowt is ever simple but at least I have learned a lesson, always insist on a p46 when starting work from not being in work.
Fuddle if you have been paid your employer can not use a P46 now...that can only be actioned before your first pay (just been down this route with DS) you need to contact HMRC with your emplyee paye ref, your works number, your NI number, have your payslip with you and they should be able to sort it out within a couple of weeks......or so the lady I spoke to 20 minutes ago on the HMRC website told me.Please be patient with any mis-spellings and typos I am officially useless with a touchscreen keyboard!!! :mad:0 -
Have finished the shopping and was rather shocked to discover that Mr A and Mr T prices are now definitely rivalling Aldi
My Tesco's has certainly increased their variety of products, offers and have many items either half price or roughly in the £1-£1.50 region...and often the nutritional information on the lower priced items is the same as or even better than the more expensive item.
If they had done this sooner or all along and realised that people are struggling they would not have lost business perhaps to Aldi's and the Lidl etc...and I have heard it said that Aldi's as good as they are will find it difficult to keep prices low in these austere times. In other countries I don't think they are known in the same way as we see them ie:discount food retailers.
Mind my Tesco's are probably doing all this because Aldi's open on the town on November 8th and are situated virtually next door."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
