The list I've posted would probably be our "to view" list if we were ready to proceed now.
No 1 I think has been beautifully done for a newbuild IMO. Its non estate, and has an amount of charm. But it is still a newbuild, I'm really not keen on newbuilds in general, and the size of the garden looks too small to me.
No 2 I'm not keen on the outside, or the decor tbh, but it does seem to have loads of space for the money. The garden worries me a bit as the pics make it look a bit dark and boggy. I think I'd need to view it for context, but I don't think it would be for us.
No 3 clearly needs lots of work, and I'm not keen on bungalows. However I think it could be lovely, the garden is fantastic, and I think of all the houses I've linked to it has more of the rural, secluded feel that I'm seeking. I'd certainly want to view, and I think it would be a strong contender.
No 4 was the one I thought was the clear winner. Its spacious, nicely done up and the garden is fab. My concern is only 3 beds, plus externally its a wee bit bland. I'm not terribly sure if it offers as much value for money as some of the others I've listed. But I like it, and keep thinking about it.
No 5. I don't really like it. But it's very good value for money, we'd have a very small mortgage which we could probably pay off in 5-10 years, its practical and would have the space we need as an interim house, allowing us to move on to something bigger and better than we can afford now in 5-10 years. I would go to see it, but I think its fairly soul-less and I can't really see us there. Sensible, but soul-less.
Where I really would like to live is here, which I didn't put on as imo its clearly nicer than the others, but it should be for £50k more. It's just out of our price range though:( But if we went for something like option 5, we'd be able to keep saving to move up to something like this in the near future...0 -
1 seems a very small plot - and too modern for me, and I don't like the visual look of it externally.
3 could be great but it would need a lot of money spending on it.
4 looks nice, if 3 beds are enough for you and preferably if an ensuite would fit in - though I absolutely hate the way the agent has written the particulars and the pretentious name on photo 9. Really? That's interesting as I felt it was far superior to the others. It just goes to show we all have our own preferences! Incidentally, the kitchen is 16'6x8'6 which I think is a reasonable size in itself, but it also has a further 11'5x7'6 utility leading off from it. Obviously it needs work, but I love vintage stuff, and I think that has scope to work with what is there. The gardens are nice, and it just felt like a "forever family home" to me. The one thing I don't like about it is the flat roof extension.
Oh and I finally found the man hiding behind the plant. Took me ages! You have eagle eyes!0 -

well I agree with all your thoughts on the properties lol! i love number 3 but I would have to 'see' it too see how much money would be needed to bring it utd .. and unless they would take an offer .. well i reckon your dream house would be just as affordable? (also with an offer I reckon you would be paying more or less the same?) .. lol i love house hunting:D0 -
I guess there's more square meters in that kitchen than I thought, but it's long and narrow so strikes me as less useable than some of the others... Appreciate what people are saying about places needing work, guess I'm just looking in terms of move-in quality (I wouldn't want much work, not right now anyway)You were only killing time and it'll kill you right back0

The bungalow seems far more interesting than the rest, and its already come down in price by £100,000
Presumably that means it was initially too expensive but might now be competitively priced (that requires the local knowledge to determine)IANAL etc.0 -

Jody, I used to do a paper round to the lane on your "really would like to live" house, does the garden have an entrance onto the footpath by the school? I think it could have been the doctors house/surgery (going back a fair few years now).
The flat roof on the extension would put me off house 2.
Do you live in the area currently? Your house no. 3 and no. 4 would I fear suffer from aircraft noise due to flight path and the proximity of the runway.
No. 5 you would probably hear motorway noise/hum.0 -
Hate numbers 2 & 5. Love the external styling of number 1 (am a huge fan of Tudor and Arts & Crafts properties, having recently sold one that was a combination of the two
) but am put off by the fact it's a new build and most of the rooms (and garden) are typically small. Number 4 is more typical of the age of property we would normally choose, but personally it feels a bit bland and characterless internally......garden looks an ok size though.
Out of the original five, my own favourite overall is number 3 - which I'm quite surprised about as I'm not a huge fan of bungalows, but it seems to have more potential than the others and a great garden......although as a serial project buyer, I guess I'm biased
I have to say though that house number 6 is by far the best in my view - again it has loads of potential........worth stretching yourself a bit more for or perhaps still possible to bring it in within budget???Mortgage-free for fourteen years!
