yes it probably is hurtful for you to know you are obese but you can actually do something about it while you are pregnant. Many people manage to maintain the weight they are rather than putting on weight while pregnant.

don't use it as an excuse to eat for two and use this to show the health professional that you do care about your health and your babies health and you can lose weight.

Turn the negative into a positive if you can

Skimmed through this post but I do not think the OP is overweight, but this just smacks of being rude. Maybe the very minority do not put weight on but it is very few! Have a bit of consideration especially for a pregnant woman who is no doubt already feeling a lot bigger with hormones to match!

I'm a size 14. I'm 5ft 11 and weigh 11st 11

This puts me in a healthy BMI range

But if I was 5 ft 1 then my weight would be an issue

That's tall you'd get on alright with my sister, she's 6 foot...
I'm only 5ft 9"...

The point is, the women in the obese range are referred to a consultant. This is a good thing, as the consultant can then decide if it's just that the women has huge b00bs or if in fact the extra weight the woman is carrying will put her at high risk during pregnancy/surgery

Thank you for understanding the point I was trying to make..

Also their BMI chart needs to be for a pregnant woman, we have more blood volume by a third, more water and then there's the uterus, baby and amniotic fluid which even at this stage weighs a fair amount...
Our bodies are incredible and the uterus grows by a whopping 1000 times it's original size..

I think more harm could be done than needed, poor woman could end up with serious PND...

This is why it is a referral at the point it is recognised. So that any factors effecting BMI can be ruled out, like massive b00bs.

I think you underestimate the complications that can arise for an obese patient. I posted a link about the risks of obesity in pregnancy further up the thread.

No I don't at all, trust me I know a lot about pregnancy and complications...

I recently had my 4th C-Section,
It may well be a risk but she's also now distressed which will more than likely affect her stress levels/bp this won't help her heart..

I never said they shouldn't discuss it, but at a size 14 I don't agree she's obese...
Her mental health is just as important as her weight if not more so..
I'm sure soon when the Summer hits and she's blooming it will drop off...

Now way OP is a size 14, what a dreamer.

She's clinically obese, no sugar-coating is going to change that fact. The hospital staff weren't commenting on it because of the aesthetics, it's a significant risk to her own health and the health of the baby
