And you know that the OP is laying on the sofa stuffing themselves? with all the unhealthy foods? Get a grip! With all my children, 4, I worked until I went in to deliver them as had own business and could not afford to take any time off but still gained weight, was also back workimg within a couple of days! after delivery!
Wouldnt it be great if we were all so perfect!

No of course not! Stop being so hysterical about it!

Gawd almighty. It is information given to women to help them continue with a healthy pregnancy. This is all.

Eh?? As a medically trained professional (as I am) then you should be for health promotion!

I really seemed to have touched a nerve, I'm sorry you struggle with your weight. But it doesn't mean that over weight people shouldn't receive the sometimes necessary medical intervention they may need. Like being referred for a GTT during pregnancy.

I'm sure you already know but I'd like to point out to others that GTT testing can be because of baby size in later pregnancy..

I was sent for one as my so called over sized baby was on the 97th centile when scanned at 36 weeks, despite being delivered by elective section a few days later..

Over sized baby weighed in at a whopping 7lb 7oz.. ;)
I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...

Well you seemed to be getting a bit upset with what I am saying. At the end of the day, if a woman is obese during pregnancy then she may need extra input and help during her pregnancy. This is not because midwives don't like overweight women, or judge them in anyway.

It's because obese women are higher risk. You cannot argue with that.

of course not - that's a sensible precaution and one we have to accept if we're overweight. I have no issue with that. But there's a world of difference between saying 'we'll need to refer you for a GTT at 28 weeks as you're overweight' and 'because you're so fat, you are putting yourself at risk of gestational diabetes which will result in a large baby and the need for medical intervention when you give birth so you've got no one but yourself to blame'.

Yes, it does touch a nerve. I am all for health promtion - but there are ways and means. Some people respond to 'short sharp shock' but I think the majority of us struggle - precisely because you can't cut food out altogether from your life so the temptation is enormous. You don't have to go in a pub if you're an alcoholic but you do have to eat if you're overweight!

If you look back on the first page this is exactly what I said! :)

Some tact and diplomacy wouldn't go amiss in this type of situation. Pregnant women are vulnerable and Healthcare Professionals should bear this in mind.

    Oh purlease!

It is advice so that any woman overweight is CAREFUL about how much weight they gain. The idea is to minimise the risk! What woman in their right mind wouldn't want to do everything they possibly can, given the circumstances, to reduce any potential risk.

It is not the Midwife's fault if the woman she is seeing is already overweight. That is beyond her control. What she CAN do is give her advice so that her pregnancy can be as healthy as possible. Hard to beleive that some people have a problem with this!

Perhaps if you stopped speaking about the general advice obese women are given and replied to the problems the OP is facing you would have a problem with it too.

I have replied to the problem the OP is facing. I said she should point out to the midwife that the way she spoke to her made her feel uncomfortable.

Have you actually read this thread??

yes, I have actually and all the way through you are responding to people and arguing that the midwife is right to say what she said,

you may have given that advice to the OP at the start but ever since then you seem to be intent on making her feel worse about her situation by going over stuff that isnt relevant.
